the second season was really held up by the mystery, even more than season 1 and 3 at least in my opinion

im rewatching now, i started by watching the beginning of season 3 where jack is based in the Others' camp and then went back to the beginning. i remember liking season 1 the best and then season 2 close after, but season 2 this time around was kind of boring.

No she's fucking not. Watch it again. She backflips constantly between Jack and Sawyer and whenever one of them is happy, she tries to destroy it. She bitches about not being included, despite being present for 90 per cent of all major plot happenings. Constantly gets captured and used as bait, or tries to follow people and gets knocked the fuck out, only for someone else to find her later. She then "rescues" Claire's baby only to pretend she's the mother: not only to the public but even to people who know that's not the truth.

She's either the worst character in fiction, or the most realistic female character ever written.

there wasn't such a thing, come on. in season 1 the goal was survival. in season 2 - to defend from the others. in season 3 and 4 - to get off the island. there was no 'never knowing what's going on'. as for the greatest mysteries - the hatch was first of all locke's personal quest, as well as jack's was the white rabbit aka christian. the whispers were meant to be the others, which was admitted several times by the writers of the first seasons. so apart from the smoke monster which appeared less than 10 times everything was based on the characters' stories and decisions they made. equally important, the relationships in the survivors' camp were given a lot of background attention, you could see it expanding. not saying completely that the mystery part was of no importance, simply put, imo it was there to keep the audience entertained. but the characters were always top priority, which was later definedin s6 where carlton even created that 'afterlife' concept. which was purely done but still.

/tv/ peaked with the /LOST/ threads during the final season and anything said to the contrary is wrong.

So why is this show so praised? I've never seen it but I think I'll start watching tonight. Is it the characters?

you see in all the flashbacks how much the characters' lives intertwine without them knowing. like how jack and claire are half siblings, kates step dad was in iraq with sayid and the guy who would later be with desmond in the hatch, ana lucia being with jacks dad, and of course sawyer with jacks dad

think it was really great that we finally got one where the one character recognizes it and tells the other relevant one. especially since it was sawyer and jack. and especially after the one scene where we THOUGHT sawyer was going to tell jack, and then said forget it
