yeah it was a fucking pain in the ass and after a lot of plays the tape itself gets fucked so you have to straighten it out and so on
not to mention waiting for the rewind
thank god for the digital age
Ahhh, the big clunky VHS tape. Tons of fuzzy different recordings from whatever crap you thought you needed to have a copy of.
Fun times.

Yes OP I member I was also born in 1996

I remember hating rewinding so much I'd just watch TV instead.

Yes.
But I remember LaserDiscs much more.
You see, we were very rich even back then and we went for LaserDiscs, we still had a VCR and some VHS tapes but we mostly went the LaserDisc route.
We sometimes even bought Japanese LaserDiscs on our trips to Japan.
I also had an aunt who worked at Japan and would often send us many Japanese LaserDiscs and VHS tapes as presents whenever she comes back home to the States for vacation.
She married a Jap and moved to Japan for work.
My aunt also taught me how to understand and speak Japanese fluently when I was young, and I was already fluent in English, French, German and Spanish back then.
I also learned Italian, Portuguese, Finnish, Russian, Mandarin, Cantonese and Korean in my later years.

I'm from 1985, so i got VHS at the end of their lifetime, but boy those times were great. Watching movies felt way more enjoyable back then, for some reason.

Feels good filtering autistic attentionwhores.

VHS was the best because you could record anything you wanted so I had almost every made for tv Disney movie. Then there was that awkward timespan after VHS players but before DVR which sucked
>>82410558
Great blog post. I too had laserdiscs, but wasn't rich then or now. But I still have my goddamn laserdiscs. My aunt never worked at Japan, but I went there for a month.
I bet I'm the only person here who had one of these.
Nope I have never used one
LoL

My friend had one and I used it to record movies I rented.

Are you a DVD-era underage fag, a LaserDisc master race member, or a poorfag?
>>82411061
no, mother was an atheist and only bought us the holes. She didn't like doughnuts because they were too hole-y
>>82409368
Yes, it was such a comfy feel. Almost every movie was savored as a family heirloom or special treat from the rental store.
Had a nice weight to it, and felt right in your hands.
CDs felt less like trash when they got old but never as homely or substantial as the good old tape.

I had two vcrs.
>hire videos out
>play on one vcr
>record on the other vcr that it's hooked up to
then the internet and napster was invented and didn't need to do that shit anymore

>tfw I'll never experience collecting films on ancient formats as an adult
>grow up watching them with easy access using the internet, with no sense of sacredness or ritual
I know it's ungrateful, but there was something authentic about the old days of trying to find movies on video wherever you could find it and with any chance you had. I wish I could've experienced that.
