The LoTR trilogy is the last series I can think of that I can actually call "very close to perfect". If they start attempting to glue bits and pieces on to it, it might damage the integrity of the original 3.

It's one of the few series of movies that knew how to stop when the game was good, and will be remembered as a great series because of it.

The Hobbit is a perfect example of trying to push ones luck. Movies that are quickly being forgotten while Lord of the Rings lives on.
