Hollywood (or at least Disney) can simulate the vast majority of hype surrounding capeshit, and they buy the optimal times to air the flicks in theater. Basically, most of people will continue seeing them simply because there's nothing else to see, and its been marketed so hard up their asses that they can't see anything else. You won't start to see cape die out until the real audience has shrunk to around 10-15% of what it is now.

They'll fade after this 3 phase arc with Thanos is over. People have been waiting for it and now that it's so close they aren't just going to tune out now.

Like someone else said, after Thanos, the original Avengers will slowly be replaced by less interesting characters and it will fade.

Exactly. And that's a huge part of the problem. Sequels of sequels of sequels stop working if the plan is to get bigger every time. At some point it just becomes unsustainable. Now it takes huge casts and all the characters to get an audience.

Superhero movies are like Westerns, and very well suited to today's technology. It's worth noticing that later Westerns started getting really morally ambiguous and dark. Western fatigue hit, and instead of decent folks and knight errants against the wilderness and evil men, it became rough people against rough people, with no real good guys, just people doing what they do to survive. And then you get things like The Wild Bunch. Movies like Deadpool and Logan aren't signs that adults like capeshit too; they're revisionist superhero movies, and a pretty clear sign that we're starting to get off the track.

It started to be big in the early 30s, I think, and "died out" in the late 50s as a mainstream "every movie is a western deal with it" genre.

We have a 30 years ride of capeshit, I guess.
