3 was the best episode by a mile, and so far the only one of the season not doing the "dopey guy does a bad thing that spirals out of control, innocent small town meets evil for the first time, charismatic outside force escalates violence in said town" thing that the previous three iterations of the story did. I still enjoy the rest of 3's plot, but I think the "Fargo" parts of Fargo have been played out

You mean the episode that is literally the same thing as the Mike Yanagita scene?
>>
>>82393516
I think you've outted yourself as a pleb. Episode 3 is about trying to figure what happened based on limited information. That's the overarching Fargo theme.
>>
>>82391604
>badass
I'd say she has a rather good ass
>>
>>82393583
It's not the same at all. The point of the Yanagita scene is to show Marge that people lie and to take a second look at things. This is Gloria trying to create leads with nothing because she realizes she has no idea who her step-dad was. Then she goes home and has a lead handed to her.

>>82393605
The way I see episode 3 is the story of a typical Fargo character told long after his "Fargo" event. He's the rube that gets conned and falls down a dark path, but instead of death he gets a sad life in the freezing cold taking on the name of a toilet seat. Having the cop protagonist realize this long before the end of her case is a pretty novel take of the story, and opens up a lot for how this can unravel differently. I think it's all a lot more compelling than the more literal Fargo plot points recreated in the twin McGregor plotlines.
>>
>>82389518
>Brutal states and such
>>
>>82393918
I don't think that's it. It's about the disconnect between what we as the omniscient audience know about what happened with the author and the female cops extremely limited knowledge of the situation.
>>
>>82393421
Found the pleb
>>
>>82393918
>This is Gloria trying to create leads with nothing because she realizes she has no idea who her step-dad was.

I think the point was for Carrie Coon to learn that her current approach to police work (and with the Facebook talk, maybe her aversion to technology) is not going to help her get anywhere. Her head is stuck in the 70's, and so the only answers she finds are stuck in that time as well. She returns home to find the town doofus has cracked the case while she was off chasing leads from the 70's.

I think she's going to have some new insight to the case after having the revelation tonight that her current approach gets her nowhere, and maybe the "new chief" was a bit right about her after all, even if he was an insufferable prick about it.

It stands to reason that in the next week or two she'll pull the thread on the AC unit guy until it leads to Ray, and she's not a dummy so the Stussy connection is gonna get made real quick, probably causing things to escalate much further than they have up to now.
>>
>>82394026
That all sounds very accurate. I see the Yamagita thing now in a broad sense.

I just really liked how they went for the emotional beats that usually come at the end of the season this early on. The sad recognition of a life wasted for greed and lust that ends every Fargo. It opens up a lot of possibilities for how the story can progress from here

>>
>>82394343
Yeah, I wonder how the pacing of this season is going. I always feel Fargo is the strongest when (like the movie) it focuses on the bizarre-yet-humanist side of this, like small people trying to do good. It kind of loses its way when it just focuses on the weird people (like VM Varga is great, but he should not be the focus, Gloria should be).

Considering that McElhenney's only done It's Always Sunny for most of his career, it makes sense that he'd be shaky outside of his home turf. Not to mention that considering how the rest of the cast of that show has done work outside of it, he comes off as the least experienced.
Also, that really does sound like something he'd write. Wonder if he contributed to the episode's script in some fashion, or if he improvised some of it?

I don't really like the series. It's derivative, massively overrated, childish at times, and has the stench of hipster.

Having said that, season two was much better than season one, and even though it was flawed it had some really great high points.

Season three so far is better than season two, and I thought this episode was the best episode the show has ever done, so instead of getting worse like most series do it seems to be getting better.

From what I can tell so far the theme of the season is 'life in general is meaningless but the interactions we have with other people give it meaning', based on Gloria's conversation with older Zimmerman about particles, the redundant box that turns itself off in her hotel room, and the way MNSKY mimicked that box at the end of his life. Why did the Hollywood producer "scam" Stussy?

Dude was a legit producer with a legit actress. Both of them were famous, and media people recognized them.

Why did they have to scam a broke writer?
>>
>>82410622
JUST payments
>>
This episode was fucking great.
>>
>>82410622
To fund his coke addiction, I think. And I didn't get the impression he was a big producer. Just someone who knew his way around in Hollywood, enough to manipulate a naive writer for his own gain.
>>
>>82393399
They're venturing into the territory of other Coen movies now. I'm getting the vibe of Burn After Reading from this season.

i know the stories come together at some point and it will be cool but damn the mobley arc is boring so far. e03 was horrible missing V.M. and Obi Wan.
>>
>>82412510
Why is /tv/ so split on this season? I'm really enjoying it so far.
>>
>>82412584
The shills are losing their ground as the pure hackery has become the most apparent it's been so even the dummies that thought seasons one and two were actually good instead of pure shit are starting to wake up.
>>
>>82412510
The Mobley "arc" is done as of now, I doubt we'll return to it much. It was a short side story.
>>
>>82412638
Right. To each his own

Guess I'll continue enjoying the show AND all of the incoming hate threads
>>
Was Coon the robot in her dreams? Was it just her subconscious telling her she was following a dead end?
>>
>>82412638
Yes, that is totally what's happening in this thread
>>
I've lived in Minnesota my whole life and I've never heard a single person talk like these people

I can help ;_;
>>
You guys realize she was planning to kill Stussy by dropping the AC on him? That`s why she knows exactly how many seconds it takes to walk down the stairs.
>>
>>82414357
There's this bit next week in the promo that has her talking to Emmit in her car like they're in cahoots with one another

but it's probably Ray in disguise to get access to the stamps
>>
>>82414357
dont say that she loves him
>>
>>82390140
Haven'nt watched the show, but isnt it obvious that it was the second coming or whayever it is in Christianity? all the good christians went to heaven
>>
>>82414357
oh, you know, she lives there and does stupid shit like count the seconds it takes her to do mundane things.
>>
>>82414964
>all the good christians went to heaven
false. One major plot point in season 1 was a christian minister or whatever pointing out how a lot of the people who departed were sinners. It was random.
>>
>>82390140
>they didn't even try to explain where the people got missing
that's not the point of the show, that's just a plot point for plebs to keep watching, it's called leftovers because it's showing the aftermath and all the cause and effects it did to the people plus supernatural stuff because its safe to assume if all those people just vanish there can be more supernatural events to happen.
>>
>>82410162
yep; he's an idiot.

>"it has nothing to do with..."

just a strange occurrence that has no meaning to her but was part of her experience in LA
>>
>>82415579
Its symbolism. When the android turns off in the final cartoon scene, you can see that the switch and the colors are similar to the useless machine. Then at the end, the machine is in the back of the police car. Like the android, he is about to witness whats going to happen the rest of the season.

Also if you listen closely, the guy in the first cartoon scene is the voice of Emmit and the "alien" that tells him to shut down is the voice of Vargas.
>>
>>82415117
maybe G-d has a twisted sense of humor
>>
>>82414357
the counting thing was just quirky nonsense like her chi talk
at the end she just asked if the guy was standing out there yet
>>

Preview for next episode has Gloria going to Ray to talk about Maurice or whatever, and she notices his surname is Stussy. This ep was just about the pointlessness of her investigation, since of course we knew from day one the murder was an accident, and Hawley is being merciful by having Gloria find it out soon, rather than letting her investigate this fake conspiracy-murder for the entire season. Basically the opposite of the negress shit that ruined Westworld
>>
>>82420508
only part I'm confused about is Ennis's nose and mouth being shut with glue, Maurice made a point he was getting frustrated that Ennis wouldn't answer any of his demands and questions about the stamps
>>
>>82420869
Yeah, how long was Maurice there, is what bothers me. If Ennis died from asphyxiation, he wouldn't have just sat up straight in a chair while dying. He would have thrashed around or something. So maybe someone from Fargo found the body, applied the glue, and posed the corpse? Or was it ayys again?
>>
>>82421650
I do hope it plays out further down the line, because that detail just bugged me. I didn't get any indication that Maurice glued Ennis at all from his dialogue with Ray.

I know he's "the moron" but yeah when he spoke about how frustrated he got from the guy not answering him and thinking a normal person would in that situation is what got me believing a third party is involved
>>
>>82421778
He tells Ray he killed the old guy, but he didn't say how he did it at all, right? I can't imagine anyone's plan would be to glue someone's nose and mouth, but the cops didn't find anything else. Maybe he just knocked him out and ran away, and someone else glued him?
>>
>>82422008
that's a good point, he did say he killed him...on one hand i can sorta see Maurice getting frustrated with the guy staying quiet and using glue in a "poetic" kind of way to punish Ennis, but I much rather like the mystery of a third party.

Either way, I'm invested this season, and I like that the stories took an episode until they started to converge
>>
>>82406583
> that it's not about what happened to the people who disappeared
Nigga it's called The Leftovers for something.
>>
why was the last episode so antisemitic?
>>
>>82422370
now that you say it, its indeed fitting. And thus gives an excuse to Lindelof for being a hack. Nice.
He can come up with any weird shit , dissappearing peple, dog shooting, afterlife hotel, end leave it without explanaition or conclusion. A clever hack.
>>
>>82415560
Of course he killed her, what`s there to discuss?
>>
I liked the last episode but the lack of qt Michael Stuhlbarg was disappointing.
>>
>>82422577
it wasn't totally obvious back then and after the fact.

People debated his reaction at the car was him maybe realizing he couldn't go through with what he knew he had to do, etc.

Anyway, it's the past.
>>
>>82422744
Thank god for him and his superior attempt at the accent, because Ewan is not cutting it.

Anyone have any webms of his diner scenes with Ray? Comedy gold there

his reaction to that was just great
>>
>>82423408
fun character. tries to be a bully with Ray, but is a pussy with Varga
>>
>>82424831
Yeah I love the dynamic he has with each character so far. There's an obvious jealousy and sense of entitlement where he feels like he's the proper brother to Emmit.

But yeah, definitely looking forward to how he plays out this entire season. I enjoyed the last episode, was a nice little departure even if early into the season, but I'm glad we're back to the main story next week
>>
>>82412812
Yes
>>
>>82414844
It's OBVIOUSLY RAY IN DISGUISE. Jesus.
>>
>>82418903
i think that was the point, it was how Gloria felt, it was how we felt. really uncomfortable, out of place, completely different from what we're used to, and we want to go back really badly

and by the end we realize our entire time spent there was a waste of time in the sense that it didnt further the case, but we learned something neat along the way
>>
why isn't this show on FX on demand? for some reason they only have season 3
>>
>>82425768
yes, hence the spoiler tag, christ.

everyone that says ewans accent sucks

maybe the stussy's arent originally fromt minnesota? I dont personally find it bad at all
>>
>>82426227
To be he actually sounds fine as Ray. But as Emmit, when his voice is a bit more, I guess affected, his Scottish accent really comes through.

And maybe it's not that type of show. Leftovers holy man said how one of the taken was a child murdering unrepentant pedophile in jail for life. So it's obvious it's something else.
