This trope is cute when wes Anderson does it because characters usually don't change all that much.
Other film makers though take the pretentious route and make me want to never watch indie shit again.
Captain fantastic is guilty of this as is little miss Sunshine and eternal Sunshine of a spotless mind but they are so we'll made and have very powerful endings.
The thing I hate most about the average indie film is that the ending is usually weak and everything feels forced.
