I feel like last kingdom is still lacking in the extra department, the wars looks pretty small scale so far in comparison to something like game of thrones or lord of the rings, but its bearable

To some extent I think a lot of that is intentional. Armies really weren't organized like they appear on most movies and TV shows. A warband of 50 or a 100 men per lord was typical and it was fairly rare for a lot of lords to get together to form a large army so most battles consisted of small warbands fighting each other.

This is more accurately represented in the books. A significant battle in Uhtreds career was the first time he ever fought in a shield wall, and if I remember right he only had something like 20 men on his side to fight against some Welshmen.

Its fantastic, everything about it. You'll see some familiar faces here and there from actors who went onto other stuff, e.g. Obadiah Hakeswill one of the best characters. The soundtrack is perfect, one of the most enjoyable series I've watched. Also if you are apprehensive of British historical pieces adding random minorities to the cast this is free of it, aside from the ones set in India the only "non white" you see is a black house slave for a few seconds.

It reminds me of the camaraderie, funny and quotable moments in Rome. The first movie is one of the best as the men don't trust him as a proper officer yet, great to see their progression and Sharpes rise through the ranks. The books are a good read too
