Starts perfect, drags out a bit, then ends with a fart and a hook for season 2. Overall not bad, but a shame it wasn't great.

To me it really threw me back into cinema story and style from the 80's, but had I suppose a sort of 90's storytelling methodology, mixed with 201X production values.

I was turned off immediately. I know it's supposed to be a homage to 80s movies, but they checked off so many of the typical stereotypes in the first episode that I couldn't take it seriously. The overblown usage of synth? Check. Nerds playing D&D in their mom's basements for hours on end? Check. Kid Friend has an obvious, and unreciprocated crush on his frien's adolescent older sister? Check. The fucking bikes like they think they're in ET? Check. And so on and so on it goes. It's probably a shitty reason to drop a series, but I honestly could not properly watch the show past the first episode. It was Just too much of an 80s movie reference/tropesfest for me.

won't go out of my way to watch the second season. in fact I probably will skip it entirely and only watch it if I'm really bored and there is nothing else to watch.

best part was the opening theme

I will say one thing about the show, it had a good soundtrack. I just love synthwave shit, good music was what singlehandedly got me into The Knick.

It's set in the early 80s and wrapped in nostalgia, but the story itself is more like something out of the 90s.

It was a solid 8/10 but I feel like its going to turn to shit amazingly quickly.

The best part of the show was how they explained very little about the monster and where it came from, as well as what happened to it. I think to end it there would have been perfect, then just make the series into an Anthology and next season cover some other monster.

But they're instead going to do the same story because the kids were popular and they apparently have a big book detailing exactly everything about the monster and the dimension it stepped in from. Meaning they're going to fucking ruin it completely by explaining it all with god awful reasoning.

Also don't know what the fuck people ITT are going on about with the "references". Aside from The Thing poster being a blatant "remember this???? ;)" there were none. It's not like they were saying DUDE RUBIK'S CUBES LMAO SO FUCKING EP*C and the songs we heard were all top 40 chart shit that you would all be liable to hear at the time.

80's meme fest. A frankenstein's monster that is less than the sum of it's parts, or to be more accurate, a mediocre show made out of parts from far superior original work.

The monster is dull and uninspired. And just so you know, D&D demogorgon should have like 2 monkey heads, it would be better if they stole that design instead of going with yawn-inducing flesh flower head.

The plot was predictable garbage, the cop guy was the only relatable character.

In other words it's the perfect show for fucking normies who can't sit through Carpenter's Thing or any other cult 80s classic but will praise everything that has a bunch of references, as if references themselves had any value or quality attached to them.

I'd say that sperging out at Kids on Bikes being ET was stupid but there's basically a violent version of the ET Bike chase so I can't really fault it.

Yeah the show really does like to play with its homages and cliches. I still liked it though. Even though it had that I still was interested in the plot and characters.
