Why is it every current/future serious scifi show has popular source material or is a remake? Are writers simply not afforded the money, time and trust to come up with something original in regards to scifi shows?
w-what was wrong with my thread:'(

i heard/read somewhere it is profitable for the writer to publish his story as a book, instead to wait ages for a studio to pick up his work.
If the book sells good, easier to sell it to studios too

that makes a lot of sense actually. Sci fi is seen as box office poison in hollywood but popular book adaptations are usually a hit. however a lot of recent scifi boom adaptations have been shit critically and commerically, like Enders Game, and with how studios are obsessed with cinematic universes now, the story might not be picked up unless its part of a series of books or the author has more planned/would be willing to work with screenwriters
>Enders Game
isn't that some young adult crap? well they'll hopefully forget about those and adapt better ones.

Yeah its YA crap, but so was twilight and the books and movies were huge financial successes. it doesnt really matter who the target audience was for the source material, just if it can make a lot of cash, and not be critically hated
