I don't know if the rest of the rankings are a meme or not but Prisoner of Azkaban seems to top a ton of best HP film lists, why is this? It was probably my favorite book, but the movie skips the best parts (Quidditch Cup, an actually good Quidditch match, a thorough explanation of the mysteries by Lupin and Sirius in the Shreaking Shack).

I thought Chamber was the best, the only one besides Sorcerer's Stone that really captured the entire book. CGI basilisk looks great even today. But it seems to be the most hated.

As a series it had almost no continuity. Almost all the actors changed throughout the series. It went through four directors, each drastically changing the style. Due to being released from 1999-2011, the use of special effects also changed with every release.

On top of that the source material isn't great. Rowling is no Tolkien. Neither the books nor the films will ever be analyzed seriously by scholars, nor do either open any new doors for either medium.

You will never see a Harry Potter film in any reputable list of greatest movies. As much of a joke as the Oscars are, it couldn't even get a win there.

They're fine for people who read the books and want to see them on screen. I did. But I could care less if I ever saw any of them again.

Seriously each episode following the boy wizard and his pals from Hogwarts Academy as they fight assorted villains has been indistinguishable from the others. Aside from the gloomy imagery, the series’ only consistency has been its lack of excitement and ineffective use of special effects, all to make magic unmagical, to make action seem inert.

Perhaps the die was cast when Rowling vetoed the idea of Spielberg directing the series; she made sure the series would never be mistaken for a work of art that meant anything to anybody?just ridiculously profitable cross-promotion for her books. The Harry Potter series might be anti-Christian (or not), but it’s certainly the anti-James Bond series in its refusal of wonder, beauty and excitement. No one wants to face that fact. Now, thankfully, they no longer have to.
