Ridley Scott saw a book with the title 'Blade Runner' and he liked the name, so he bought the rights to it, and named his movie after it.

The bounty hunters in the film are called 'Blade Runners' so the title makes sense.

Is just a silly nickname they gave Ford's former cop unit in the story. They're investigative detectives sanctioned with hunting down androids for the crime of thinking they're human.

Still a better name for the movie than Dangerous Days or Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep.

Iirc Ridley Scott (or at least someone who was working on the movie) heard that term somewhere and thought it sounded so cool they used it as the title for his profession and the movie. I believe a Blade Runner is someone who deals in illegal surgical instruments.
