I liked this film. Can someone recommend something similar in style, (though not too similar, because I found the slow motion to be obnoxious), and tone, preferably Japanese?

Same director but very different movie, I liked this one a lot more.

Audition is good, another Japanese film. Try some of these Korean films. Lady Vengeance and Mr Vengeance have revenge themes, as do most Korean thriller movies. I'm assuming you've seen Oldboy.

.... I was just about to recommend Kanako lel Good shout.
>>
>>82294272
I actually specifically requested Japanese films because I've seen almost every movie on that list that I could be interested in. I also thought that the Japanese were total garbage filmmakers, (except anime movies, and very few at that), until I saw this film.

Really hope you're talking about the last couple decades only

In that case Kanako and Audition are a good place to start. I'm trying to think of Japanese only films, I've drawn a blank, I'll drop a few recommendations when they come to me.

Dumplings is a good film, Hong Kong though. The Message (2009) is also kino, but Chinese. kek

Actually, I am, not because I've watched those films, but am not interested in Samurai movies and.... I guess that's it.

Very odd movie but good.

Cold fish (2010)
Villian (2010)
Ichi the Killer (2001) (I've never seen it but it has a cult following, if you like it try Takashi Miike's other stuff)

Also, try the 7+ movies on here http://www.imdb.com/list/ls050964574/

Japan actually has a pretty good range in its filmmaking legacy, the Samurai films are the most interesting to wider audiences (probably was the case back in the day of their release as well) so people will remember Kurosawa etc
Kenji Mizoguchi and Ozu made some very emotional movies long ago, I highly recommend Sansho the Bailiff if you've never seen it. Koreeda is a more modern filmmaker that you can check out as well. I realize these might not be the style of Confessions but there are so many Japanese movies worth watching regardless

If you need ddl links for any of these films gimme a shout. Torrents, however, I can't help you with

it starts great, but then becomes edgier until it's just annoying... could have been an 8/10 if it kept up the level of the first third, 5/10 overall

Started watching it... I guess this guy really likes slow motion shots.

It's always makes me think how Nakashima (the director) is slowly moving from something like light and funny like kamikaze girls to something more and more darker like world of kanako. Man if he keeps this trend his next movie would be a nightmare.

Do you have a list of films that you have ddl links to?

Absolutely nothing wrong with that Senpai.

>>82293971
Honestly my favorite film of all time, but there really isn't much like it. Kanako gets a bit chaotic andsilly in its horribleness, and other Asian directors have a problem dealing with dark stuff without going full teenage edgelord like Miike, Sion Sono or that korean who made I saw the Devil and Bittersweet Life.

I guess Park is the only one who comes close.

>Absolutely nothing wrong with that Senpai.
Not in moderation, The World of Kanako came out later, and I think the director has appropriately toned down on them.
>>
>>82293971
Hey just curious, did you happen to watch this because of a thread like 1 or 2 days ago?
>>
>>82297272
.....yes
>>
Was thinking about watching this, anyone see it or think it was good?
>>
>>82297362
I found the opening style too be excessive, and obnoxious, and all the elements really don't work together, in my opinion, but I liked it, and I'd say it's a good movie.
>>
>>82297306
Heh, I'm glad you enjoyed my recommendation.

Did you also think the actors in that movie fucking sucked at doing fake laughs though? I couldn't get over how bad they were.
>>
>>82297438
>>82297362
Actually, disregard this, I thought you were talking abut OP's pic.
>>
>>82297456
I thought the acting was very uneven, though it didn't really affect my enjoyment of the film. The only laugh I can think of was the teacher laughing when she was speaking to that girl in the restaurant, which I guess was very exaggerated, but it didn't bother me that much.
>>
>>82293971
Film was cheese as fuck
>>
>>82294211
Like everyone else, I came to suggest this.

It's unnecessarily confusing and obfuscated, (it starts in the middle, than has an hour long flashback, and then jumps right back, without any indication of how the time passed), but it's still quite good. The end credits scene is especially beautiful
