In the show there were physical diseases associated with the organic parts of cyberized brains that played a large plot point. I swear to god. The people behind this film didn't even watch the entirety of the source material or give a shit about it. It's like they had 50 people go watch a single episode/portion of the movies and then had them all come back and describe whatever cool shit they saw, and then they took that and tried to hamfist it into a movie.

I still don't even understand why they had to drag Kuze into all of this. It could've been some random new no-name hacker villain or something. But fucking no. They made it Kuze for only god knows why and completely removed his defining traits.

And at the end of the movie, Motoko still has her brain case. I have absolutely no idea what the fuck is going on.

this movie was so bad. I don't care about the race of the characters at all. the acting, the pacing, the music, all of it was shit. /tv/ lied to me and said SJWs were the ones trashing this film. This was a mess of bad CGI, hamfisted dialogue, and a chubby scarjo complete devoid of any human qualities beyond her awkward movements. You know what, I expected it to be horrible and yet didn't entirely hate it. Hell, if it weren't for the complete lack of -any- original ideas, I might even have liked it. That and how americanized (or infantile) and handholdy it became.

And all this happens in the first five minutes. How about you let the movie speak for itself without "subtitling" every thing the characters are feeling or thinking? Like the original movie you are so intent in making callbacks to.

It's basically a really high end fan film that's not really an adaptation but doesn't do anything that's not in the 1st movie and keeps winking and nodding (more like elbowing) at whoever's seen it to the point it becomes distracting.

It's visually busy and distracting, rather inelegant too. And the director has trouble shooting the action scenes. There's not a lot of sense of space or positioning, not a lot of weight and worse, no panache. Fuck, Kitano knows how to do action and he's standing right there (pretending not to chew the scenery and doing badly at it), just ask the man. Yeah his aren't showboaty but at least they have impact.

The OST is like spitting in Kawai's soup and it contributes to the film's lack of identity and general novel ideas.

It ends on a really retarded note what with that shitty, meaningless narration.

And yet I didn't hate it. I wish I knew why.

Or do you mean that hasn't been done in the series as a whole? Because there were countless scenes/ideas/characters ripped straight out of other GitS material. The problem was way they did it and completely fucked up the majority of context and canon involved when they did do it.

Honestly, I can only really think of the scenes involving the "mother" as being anything I haven't directly seen in anything else GitS, and the fact that it even existed to begin with broke canon so hard it actually hurt.

I mean really, with how badly random parts of the story broke the established canon, I can't see how this movie would feel even passable for anyone familiar with the source material at all - unless they're absolute normie-tier and only caught an episode or two because they left the TV on after Family Guy ended.
