I have nothing but a complete lack of surprise that Space Cop was a pathetic, abysmal failure of a film, and I have nothing but scorn and contemptuous laughter for the morons who have been supporting Red Letter Media for years with patronage. Laziness and lack of organisation will ALWAYS shine through, in the end.

Red Letter Media have based their entire schtick around "humorous irony" but this time, when they themselves were put to the test ("can YOU make a good film, with all your supposed knowledge about it?") their true colors shone through for all to see. I knew it would happen, of course. I knew it from the first time I decided to bite the proverbial bullet and attempt to view one of their videos on Youtube.

Hopefully as a direct result of this, one or more of the members of Red Letter Media will realise that they are, and have been, nothing but an abhorrent failure "half-assing it" through life, and put an end to it. Their life, that is. Now THAT I would give patronage to.

Make your suicides happen, Red Letter Media. It's the only chance at redemption you all have.
>>
>>82283757
I think I laughed maybe twice during the whole thing. I mean you can't expect much else quality wise from a movie like this but I feel that they could have made it funnier and put more effort into the gags.
>>

>Production had a lot of trouble getting actors and extras, which explains why several parts are played by the same actors. This was even the case during the strip club scene when some of the dancers who agreed to show up didn't. Despite local flyers advertising free beer and strippers only four people turned up. The day was saved, following several failed audition sessions, when the group's only professional actor, Jocelyn Ridgely managed to get several actor friends together to fill out the important roles.
>>
>>82284722
Did you intentionally get most of this information incorrect?
>>
>>82283757
it exceeded all expectations of just how terrible a movie can be
>>
Space Cop is a clinic in why small budget indie movies fail:
1) Start off with a shitty script that isn't a real script, it's just a satire of the industry, poking fun at the movie that they are pretending to make.
2) Get your buddies to star in it instead of getting real actors.
3) Absolutely shit production value, akin to an infomercial.
4) Put together an uninspired edit.
5) Make "totally awesome" poster because the actual movies sucks.
>>
>>82284722
>Jocelyn Ridgely managed to get several actor friends together to fill out the important roles.
Kek no. She is a failed shitty local actor local to Milwaukee and her friends are shittier actors than her. Trust me, I know.
>>

>>
>>82284932
>>82284986
I live in Milwaukee and know all these jokesters first hand or second hand. Jocelyn is a shitty actor who used to get hired based on her looks. She is getting old and gross now, though. The Milwaukee scene, including RLM, is absolute cancer. It's the same group of about 25 actors who are all absolute shit. Anyone trying to make a movie is untalented and simply trying to make a caricature of a movie.

Can't say any more about myself, it will out me.

>Can't say any more about myself, it will out me.
Then why say anything at all? It's not like you're providing any interesting or useful information. Just desperate for attention, I suppose.
>>
You simply cannot make a good movie without at least 30 million dollars
>>
>>82285130
>The Milwaukee scene, including RLM, is absolute cancer.
But RLM doesn't seem to associate at all with any kind of local "scene."
>>
>>82285228
Just refuting information that anyone involved in the making of Space Cop is "professional." They are all people who's interest in filmmaking is that of a hobbyist. It was written by the three amigos (Jay, Mike and Rich) and made by a bunch of their friends and sycophants who they got to work for free.

Don't lump all small budget indies like that, a lot of small budget indies do end up being great movies. But the reasons you list for why are pretty stupid imo.

1) The Space Cop feature film is based on an idea that they had been toying around with for years. But the script has nothing to do with being a "satire of the industry". I think the biggest problem here is that they rehashed all of the jokes they had been showing people previously so the jokes didn't have the same punch.

2) They did hire professional actors, like they also did with Feeding Frenzy and The Recovered. It wouldn't have been an RLM movie without Jay, Mike and Rich, though.

3) Production value was kind of shit, but I don't think they could have done any better with the budget they had available. Compared to other indie films of this this nature, some of the effects and sets they did are actually good. Besides it's pretty obvious they were going for a certain look.

4) I don't even know what you mean by this. Makes no sense.

5)The poster in OP was made by a fan. The original poster for the film is actually pretty bare.
>>
>"There's a lot of excitement, there's a lot of buzz and it doesn't make a lot of sense to me because I have no interest in intentionally shitty movies. The best bad movies are the ones where the people making it didn't realize they were making a bad movie."

- Jay Bauman, director / star / producer of Space Cop on a movie that's not Space Cop
>>
>>82285603
Don't be the asshole that argues the exception and not the rule. For every good indie there are about 10 million terrible ones.

space cop really isn't as offensive as you guys are making it out to be. it's right in line with shit like the aqua teen hunger force movie or the tim and eric movie, ie its a redlettermedia skit in longform that you will get a couple chuckles out of. it's not great but genuinely great comedy films are hard to make. I love kung pow and dumb and dumber but I've seen those movies get shit on too.
>>
>>82285782
Exactly. They claim they weren't trying to spoof '80s movies, but they did exactly that. For people that really love '70s and '80s movies, it's a slap to the face and reeks of insincerity. You can tell when someone is passionate about something. It's obvious RLM is not passionate about retro movies. They are simply poking fun at them because it's the trend right now. It makes me sick.
>>
>>82285399

Please tell me about them.
>>
>>82283757

What kills me about this is, they comment time and again in their Best of the Worst series that a "good" bad movie is one made with commitment to it as a serious movie, and that the worst possible type of movie is the "intentionally bad comedy" because it's not only unfunny, it's actually miserable.

And then, they go and make an "intentionally bad comedy", and who woulda thought it, it's not only unfunny, it's actually miserable. They show an incredible lack of ability to learn from THEMSELVES.
>>
>>82285940
This 1000%.

A movie like Gremlins or Critters is awesome because the creative team set out to make an awesome movie and failed in the right way. But the passion and the heart of the movie are there. They did NOT say, "Hey, let's poke fun at wacky creature movies and make something that will give a few people a chuckle. They are the worst kind of hypocrites.

I would think the worst kind of hypocrites would be like politicians or scientists that do the opposite of what they say. You know, people that actually have an effect on the world.

But you're probably right: a group of friends in Milwaukee that make no budget movies for fun are much worse, and the effects of their heinous acts is severe.
>>
>>82286156

I'm glad you agree.
>>
>>82286156
I have no problem with a group of friends making a movie. But when they proclaim that a certain thing sucks, but then do it anyway, then people call them out, and then they try to backtrack and defend themselves ... that I have a problem with.
>>
>>82286128
Apparently you don't know how this Micronesian anime forum works.
>>
>>82286225
you're not calling them out though. you're just intentionally misunderstanding what they mean by a low budget b movie having unintentional comedic value and their actual style of comedy which is stuff like in their skits. its a completely different tangent.
>>

I don't even remember what this webm shows or why I made it but here you go
>>
>>82305627
wow great webm. and the editing is so inspired.
>>
>>82305627
Jesus fucking christ, this looks so bland and unprofessional. Couldn't they at the very least color grade the footage a little in DaVinci Resolve or mess around with the curves to adjust the lighting a little or else?
>>
>>82307301
It is color graded. The whole movie is. You can tell by comparing it to the deleted scenes and outtakes.
>>
>>82283900
It always feels like any time they go to make something they are too afraid to actually try something real and have it fail so they hide behind a layer of 'ironic humor' that fails to be funny and ends up being kind of pathetic. There's never any real artistic passion or heart to any of the films they make it's just a bunch of goobers being goobers.
>>
>>82307404
They have a specific style of comedy that they enjoy doing, so they make material in that style. There's so much projecting in all of these RLM threads all the time that it's hilarious.
>>
>>82307223
>>82307404
I agree. They should actaully try to make a real movie.
I think they're scared though.

But to me, even if it was shit, I would respect them for trying.
>>
>>82307452
Holy crap. I'm glad somebody finally said this.
>>
>>82307469
>I would respect RLM more if they abandoned their comedic style and everything that makes them unique and just make some generic drama instead because drama=real movie.
>>
Imagine being an aging hipster, enjoying nothing genuinely, having to put everything you say and like through a sarcastic lens lest your group of friends belittle your inferior opinions. Imagine finally having the resources and support to create your own film, the art form you've dedicated your life to critiquing, and you're so accustomed to mocking failed attempts of genuine effort, so afraid to actually try to express yourself, that you blow it all making an intentionally bad joke movie, just so you can have a built-in escape button for criticism and easy "self-aware" laughs.

Imagine nearing 40 and your biggest accomplishment is being proud of never, ever trying at anything.
>>
>>82307574
These guys just don't "get" RLM like we do, man.

Friendly reminder that Rich Evans is doing voice work for some Dreamworks Youtube cartoon that's coming out soon.
>>
>>82307557
Yep. These threads are so obviously filled with failed film school faggots that are too scared or too autistic to even TRY to make their own films. As Jay said in response to some of the Space Cop criticisms, if they wanted to avoid getting criticized, they wouldn't make movies at all.

Holy shit, and it still looks that miserable? How pathetic, they couldn't even choose a specific look for their film.
>>
>>82307574
Or they could make a comedy that is not trying to be shit on purpose
>>
>>82307622
Yeah, and? Space Cop isn't "bad on purpose." It's just a no budget comedy.

My "review" of Reddit Letter Media

>posting in a friend simulator thread
>idolizing an aging group of youtube vloggers from Milwaukee
>he gives his real-life "friends" money every month

Rich
>an unemployed construction worker, the trick monkey fraud of the group. knows two tricks: forced laughter and becoming violent. brava, rich! brava!

Jack
>a failed viral marketer with an ugly wife and children with terrible names ('myson packard?'). he knows he's the least popular cast member and desperately tries to fit in by making fun of reddit on stream

Mike
>an over-the-hill "director" weighed down by his talentless friends. only makes "ironically bad" videos because they're immune to criticism. his latest production 'Space Cop' has exposed him as a fraud and proved a spiritual and economic disaster. he will eventually go the route of orson welles, balloon up to 500 pounds and die at the ripe age of 50.

Jesse
>the curdling definition of a parasite. ditters on her phone while the men do all the hard work. got caught buying jewelry with actual Patreon money.

Jay
>the only cast member showing any self-improvement or growth. still has a long way to go, but has already outgrown RLM.

I like how Reddit Letter Media is a company founded upon criticism, insulting and berating others and their works, but HEAVEN FORBID that anyone criticize them! They'll even ban you from their stream if they catch a whiff of dissatisfaction. It's amazing how creatively lazy the group has become. They were better when they were a starving group. Now they can sit on their fat asses, drink beer and make fart jokes while you throw money at the screen. Amazing.
>>
>>82307657
>isn't "bad on purpose."
But it's very bad. So is it accidentally bad?
>>
>>82307654
You haven't even seen the movie, have you?
>>
>>82285676
This movie literally killed my interest in RLM.

I reach the 10 minute mark and just turn it off.
>>
>>82307452
yea i get that but it gets old very quickly. Their style of humor also doesn't translate into something with a script very well, their off the cuff jokes work really well in a format like botw or half in the bag where it's them just shooting the shit with each other but in something scripted the "joke" simply being mike is talking in a silly voice just feels lazy and is actually pretty patronizing at times. Space Cop just reeks of low effort both in concept and the actual jokes that they attempt.

My "review" on the "review" of Red Letter Media

>replying to a lonely insecure shitposter
>exasperatedly posts the same copypasta in every single RLM thread he happens to run across
>often follows up with saying that no one has yet refuted his terrible opinion

>Rich, an unemployed construction worker (...) knows two tricks: forced laughter and becoming violent.
Nevermind how ironic it is that someone who has been shitposting the same thing for half a decade by now calls something "forced", Rich is by far the kindest, most lovable person on the entire crew. There's no record of him ever "becoming violent" other than your personal fanfiction.

>Jack, a failed viral marketer (...) he knows he's the least popular cast member and desperately tries to fit in
Jack has been with RLM since the very beginning and there's a consensus that he still feels incredibly organic amongst the cast whether you like him or not, but sure, believe in whatever you want to.

>Mike, an over-the-hill "director", only makes "ironically bad" videos (...) 'Space Cop' has exposed him as a fraud and proved a spiritual and economic disaster.
There's nothing "ironically bad" about the Plinkett reviews. They're widely enjoyable as solid pieces of film criticism, so much that even Ebert himself praised them. As for the "economic disaster" part, just look at their Patreon figures, do you really think Mike suffered any loss with Space Cop?

>Jesse, the curdling definition of a parasite. ditters on her phone while the men do all the hard work. got caught buying jewelry with actual Patreon money.
Jesse hasn't been around for years now, and neither is there any record of her "buying jewelry with Patreon money". Once again, mere fanfiction.

>Jay, the only cast member showing any self-improvement or growth.
Possibly the most senseless point, how was Jay even changed at all?

Overall, this pasta is a sad mixture of fanfiction and insecurity, and not much more. Nothing to see here, folks.
>>
>>82307699
Who did?
>>
>>82307741
>low effort
Look I didn't think the movie was great or anything but anyone trying to call it lazy has literally no experience with filmmaking. Considering they had no crew and were doing everything themselves from casting to building the sets to editing, the movie is a huge undertaking.
>>
>>82307815
Not when you consider that it took them many years to make it.
They weren't on any kind of time table. They just shot stuff when they felt like it.

>not a SINGLE pathetic anti-RLM copypasta forcing KEK
Maybe because there's probably only one single copypasta forcer who actually wastes his time posting it in every RLM thread. I would be shocked if it was more than one person doing this.
>>
>>82307789
>Possibly the most senseless point, how was Jay even changed at all?
You must be 12 if you don't realise that not changing at all for over a decade requires self-improvement and growth. We're all getting old.

Why is it so important to you faggots to convince yourself that RLM are pathetic and lazy when they clearly aren't? Is it some attempt to make yourself feel better about your own miserable life?
>>
>>82308146
>when they clearly aren't?
Source?
>>
>>82308146
Because their release schedule has slowed down considerably since their Patreon was created.
>>
I don't understand why anyone expected it to be good. Were you really that enthralled by the half in the bag storyline? Were the plinkett scenes actually SUPER engaging to you? At no point did I think to myself "Yeah, those guys are the ones to make an interesting movie!"

Seriously if you went into this expecting anything other than an abject failure fuck you and get off my board.
>>
>>82307815
I meant the script, of course it takes effort to make a movie.
>>
>>82283773
what gives you the authority?
>>

But that's not true. Only newfags that weren't around when Half in the Bag started could possibly think that.

2011:

2016:

>at least 1 Best of the Worst a month, sometimes 2
>Weekly twitch streams twice a week
>at least 1 re:View a month

Nope, they used to put out way more content back before Patreon!

I'm not making an elaborate chart of all their output, faggot. The point is they've gradually increased their output over the years.
>>

No they haven't and you know it. They didn't even put out
a Half in the Bag for April.
>>
>>82309537
>They didn't even put out a Half in the Bag for April.
No but they put out 6 other videos and a commentary track.
>>
>>82309575
But you literally said that they haven't slowed their content and then said they put at least two half in the bags out per month. You can't have it both ways. Life isn't a Burger King and I'm not swallowing your Whoppers.
>>

>>
I tend to like RLM. Only Youtube people I still don't hate like the AVGN who used to be funny back when he was all new. Maybe it's because I am older now but AVGN is just awkward and unfunny to watch. Speaking of awkward and unfunny - Space Cop in a nutshell. It's also amazingly dull. My problem really is the script. It takes 0 bucks to come up with a good story and WRITE it yourself if you are funny. Your movie doesn't get a better story with
6465464684864 USD. So this is where they failed. I like the models.
>>
>>82286225

where did they defend themselves?
>>
>>82316250
They haven't. /tv/ loves to project onto these guys and constantly claim that RLM uses the excuse that it's "supposed to be bad on purpose" despite the fact that they have never, ever done this.
>>
>>82316283
Go to bed AJ.
>>
>>82286587

Actually it does. If you are getting paid it means you are a professional. I'm a video editor and I saw a long speech by a video editor who edits big stuff. To sum it up: Doesn't matter if it's a big feature film or television. If you get paid you are doing it professionally. And no I don't do YouTube videos and I don't like YouTube people but even I have to admit - as much as I don't like it- they they are pros if they make money with it. If they are GOOD - thats a different term.
>>
>>82293798

No. It was for opening his fridge. Still not funny and really annoying to watch.
>>
>>82284761
watch the director's commentary, retard
>>
>>82316525
I've listened to the commentary.

>Despite local flyers advertising free beer and strippers only four people turned up.
They didn't put up flyers anywhere. They just extended the invite to friends.

>The day was saved, following several failed audition sessions, when the group's only professional actor, Jocelyn Ridgely managed to get several actor friends together to fill out the important roles.
Jocelyn helping them find actors has nothing to do with the strip club scene. She helped get actors for key roles before they actually started making the movie.
