>horror movie
>it's actually a metaphor for mental illness
Does /tv/ agree with the theory of horror films reflecting the fear of modern times?
For example, all those b movies about brain eaters and mind control were really about peoples fear of communism. "They could be anyone, your neighbor your teacher etc"
Slasher films killing teenagers for having sex became a thing after the sexual revolution.

It's not a theory.
To make a horror movie you have to sit down and ask yourself "what would the audience be afraid of?".
Obviously the fears reflected in movies are lifted from their historical context.
But (surprise surprise!) Sometimes people's fears stay the same, and other times they change.

Actually brain eaters are a metaphor for mindless consumerism.
>movie about dementia
>turns into a horror movie about a old senile woman trying to eat a child in a mine
That was a weird fucking movie

I think he means The Babadook
>horror flick
>200lb men taken out left and right by the monster
>100lb woman kills it

No they aren't Mr. Dawn of the dead
>>82284308
loss of control
>>82284642
Can't be, The Babadook is clearly about a young boys awakening to his Warlock powers that he inherited from his deceased father.

That's silly
>People watch slasher movie
>Complain its glorifying violence and premarital sex
>They don't understand the meaning behind the violence, nudity, and sex.

This was actually pretty good imo.

not really metaphorical

it's autism like most artistic interpretation, sure some of those were intentional metaphors, but sometimes they were the opposite (romero zombies are about capitilism, not communism), most horror movies are just copying whatever's popular at the moment and you could bend over backwards negan style trying to say oh movies about demons represent fear of islamic terrorism because they're anti-christian ect ect
