But he's not. The only reason people say it's the best capeshit is because it tries not to be capeshit, resulting in one of the most mediocre, pretentious crime dramas ever made, but since it's accessible (more-so than something like LA Confidential or Heat) and hides under the guise of capeshit, people think it's a masterpiece. The only movie that actually managed to pull off capeshit properly without trying to be something else was>>82275935

That's 100% arguable, OP. Regardless of that I want to touch on a subject here. Remember how TDK came out and everybody was saying it was a game changer and then every superhero movie would try to follow its ways? It's funny how it didn't quite turn out like that.

Nowadays I see it would have been better if it did. I'm not talking about the tone. The reason why these new DC films are failing is because they want to be dark and gritty and "realistic" just because, but they're forgetting the fact that what made TDK what it was was the writing and the acting.

After TDK I along with everybody else thought that now comic book movies would stop always being idiotic and stupid and would get a little more interesting and explore their characters better and have better themes. I thought Iron Man 2 would touch on Tony Starks alcoholism in a serious interesting way, for example. We were wrong. As a matter of fact they are even more stupid than they were shortly before TDK came out. A movie like Spider-Man 2, although lighthearted and silly, is miles above any of the formulaic pathetic stuff that the MCU has put out (Hello, Ant-Man) minus The Avengers, maybe.

It's a shame that TDK is such a great movie but it wasn't the game changer that everybody thought it would be. Most people look at it and try to follow it simply by making their movies dark, completely missing the point. TDK is a hell of a thriller that doesn't let you breathe and keeps you interested literally from the first shot (Joker standing on the street before the heist) to the last one (Batman escaping the police). It's all about the characters, philosophical and moral dilemmas, non-stoping actiong and character development. Then we have shit like the MCU and these shitty dark DC movies that are so fucking awfully done.

I wish The Dark Knight could have been more influentional than it turned out to be. It just influenced studios in a bad way (WE NEED TO GET DARK) instead of a better way (we need to get deeper).

gotham was unrecognizable among the trilogy. It actually looked cool and Gothic in Begins, but after that it just looked like a generic city backdrop. Considering how the city is supposed to be a character in and of itself, this is a major fuckup. It's like if the Cabin in Evil Dead 2, somehow became modernistic between movies

Captain America: The Winter Soldier
X-Men Origins: Wolverine
The Punisher
Thor
Iron Man

I don't think bad effects is a valid reason for disliking Origins, they don't matter that much, and they weren't as bad as the workprint. If you asked me this question in 2000 I'd say:

Blade
Flash Gordon
Danger: Diabolik
Judge Dredd
Barbarella

And none of them were known for their great effects.
>>
>>82275965
A runner up.
>>
The Nolan trilogy hasn't held up that well in my opinion. The bland production design, the shitty fight scenes, the half baked philosophising, the endless expostion, the weirdly asexual take on the genre. Every other director understands that Batman is about a rich pervert and his nocturnal proclivities, Nolan turns him into some neutered thought experiment about ethics and responsibility and blahblahblah.
>>

Dick Tracy was alright but was very clearly trying to be Tim Burton's Batman without Tim Burton.

The dialogue in the dark knight is the most lazily written cringe inducing dribble. Real people don't talk like that, even in a capeshit universe, people don't talk like that. The direction of the dialogue makes it even worse.
>>

you only say that because Elfman scored both flicks

>>82275964
Raimi's style is better. Nolan's "aesthetics" are gritty realism (in a comic book movie). Raimi's Spiderman knows what it is and isn't ashamed of it.
>>
>>82279310
Nah. The heavily stylized look is very Burton.

His urban realism shit is so boring, give me some Burton style gothic bullshit any day.
>>
>>82279521
True. If you watch Burton's Batman movies and pay attention to the set design, you really come to understand how much work went into creating that world and it's very impressive. Couple it with Elfman's fitting scores and it works extremely well.
>>
>>82279621
Burton really understood the interesting parts of Batman in a way that Nolan doesn't. Like in this exchange he has with the Penguin in Batman Returns.

>The Penguin: You're just jealous, because I'm a genuine freak and you have to wear a mask!

Peter Parker has a lot more problems in 2, which adds more drama (and it's well done drama), and Doc Ock is less cheesy and more sympathetic than the Green Goblin.
>>

The struggle of whether or not Peter wants to be Spiderman is a good plot too.

Spider-Man 2 is better than the first one just by virtue of not having some weird out of time Macy Gray bullshit. Same is true of Burton's Batman films, first one is almost painfully 1989, second one is timeless.

What do you guys think of Captain America: The First Avenger? It's one of my favorite avenger movies (along side Iron Man 1) for many reasons. People always say "oh he's just a roided up guy, not a real superhero", but that's not his genius. The core of the character is his unshakable morals and ideals. This is maintained throughout the Avengers movies. Also the romance between Cap and Peggy was great, and the bittersweet ending was imo the best ending of a superhero movie ever.

I have no idea why people adore the Spider-Man movies so much. Rami's direction is so campy I can't stomach it. Tobey, Dunst, and Franco are horribly cast and the pacing is genuinely slow. I would happily take Nolan any day.

>The reason why these new DC films are failing is because they want to be dark and gritty and "realistic" just because, but they're forgetting the fact that what made TDK what it was was the writing and the acting.
It's funny because this is exactly what happened to comics in the 90's when they were trying to emulate stuff like Watchmen and The Dark Knight Returns by imitating the grittiness but not having any competence to write the stories.

absolute trash movie

TDK sure is.

I wouldn't go so far as to call TDK trash, it's certainly better than Logan though.

Batman Begins is better.

TDKR > TDK

The dark knight is a shitty reddit meme for edgy fedora faggots.

maybe even harder, if he had been in TDKR instead of Bane. You've got to admit, The Joker was one hell of a villain.

Bane > Joker

my god you people are cynical. Nobody said Bane wasn't great (for you) but the Joker was a good villain in that movie, objectively mirrored the one in the comics, yes?

> objectively mirrored the one in the comics, yes?
1. Don't use words you don't know the meaning of (objectively, mirrored)
2. Don't type like a faggot (yes?)

Spider-Man 2 is overrated dogshit

>copious CGI fighting
>Dock Ock's motivations make no sense
>Peter and MJ playing relationship chicken
>Peter losing his powers because he doesn't want to be Spiderman or some shit
>non-stop dramatic dialogue between characters
>Ock goes to question Peter about Spiderman's whereabouts, throws a car at him first
