copying plot points from previous movies in the same series is lazy. The Force Awakens really didn't give anything new to the series, just copied everything from A New Hope and made it larger. It didn't even make sense for the plot. The Empire should not be as overtly powerful anymore.

At least Rogue One had some neat new ideas, rather than being a bland copy of the original trilogy, like the Force Awakens.
