They're already doing a fine job of repeating that with Star Wars. My brother was huge fan since childhood, but since coming home from TFA wants nothing to do with the franchise anymore. More people will follow suit after 8 and 9.

It's going to be at least a decade before a Star Wars movie makes less than a billion dollars. The franchise is still going to be insane profitable for at least 20. By the time they actually run it into the ground Lucas will probably be too old or too dead to give a fuck.
