Is it really that good?
no one thinks that
it was alright
>>82178194
it's fucking terrible
Had strong potential to start with but lapsed into formulas, constantly dropped plotlines and soap opera bullshit.
>>82178194
It was okay, then it was pretty good when John Lithgow was in it, then it was shit.
Waiting for the eventual spin-off where his son is a serial killer in Venezuela or Bolivia wherever the fuck they ran off to and uses his abilities to kill cartels
>It's cool to kill people if you think they're bad
>marketed towards liberals
fascinating.
wow, the creator of this show sure has some DISTINCT facial features, fascinating
>>82178285
>Watching Harrison learn from his mommy in Argentina
10/10 would watch
>season 1 good
>season 2 kino
>season 3 a of shit
>season 4 shit+dumbbut dumb people keep say it is good just because of muh anticlimatic season finale
>season 5 is a mix of a comedy and a buddy series at this point
>season 6 is "Dexter v Trinity" clash of the serial killers
>season 7 is "me and my special brother"
>season 8 is just a random bounch of episodes with a shitty ending
>>82178194
If you pretend season 4 is the last one and the rest doesn't exist, then sure.
I really liked the show's humor
>>82178287
I'm probably more right-wing than you are, and I can say you're really reaching.
Season 1 and 2 were promising but the rest of the show was such utter fucking trash that it ruins any kind of quality the show can have as a whole
Can anyone post the gif where hes watching the dude from outside a diner in plain sight and wonders how he got caught
>>82178353
>Watching Harrison turn into an adult man and back in a span of few seconds.
>>82178367
why is it that many shows can't be good past season 4?
>>82178364
Confirmed for having not seen the show.
But really not that far off.
>>82178491
Its more of an issue with Showtime. Shows usually drop after season 5/6
>>82178436
Bella's decline into whoredom is symbolic of the drop in quality this series had
Season 1,2,and 4 are pretty much the series peak. The rest are ok to awful.
>>82178194
Season 1 is great, Season 2 is great too but it's ending basically changes the shows dynamic. Should have had a completely different Season 3 that ended the show.
>>82178491
Dunno, with Dexter, the showrunner left. Season 4 was his bow, and his idea for an ending of the show was way better than what we got.
>>82178194
regret all the time i wasted on this. kinda embarassed that i watched it all.
Seasons 1,2 and 4 are good.
>>82178194
>>82178674
This. Oh god season 3
>>82178364
Season 4 is good because Lithgows character is a great foil to Dexter, and the consequences of Dexter trying to merge a family life with his serial killer life is a great theme. The ending isn't even anti-climatic, it's a great consequence, it's what follows that's anti-climatic. Season 5's attempt to address the ending and the fallout it has in Dexter's world is such a joke that the show goes on for four more seasons with nothing of consequence coming from it nor Rita's death at all.
A competent showrunner would have made Season 5 about Dexter's world falling apart as the Miami PD begins to look at him for the first time under the lens of a suspect, not Dexter's rebound plus his kids magically disappear to go live with their grand parents after like only 2 episodes.
What went wrong with Season 3?
>>82178194
it's good if you stop after season 4
Dexter devolved into one of the dumbest shows to ever grace cable television, seasons 6 and 8 definitely compete with the very dumbest network tv has to offer.
If you wanna be spoonfed everything, every theme, concept, idea, look no further than the last 4 seasons of Dexter. Dexter will explain it all to you in inner monologues
>>82178726
Yeah but dexter's behavior is still not convining to me, keep stalking and try to befriend the trinity killer is just stupid they have could think about something more solid to prevent dexter from killing him.
Also i would have loved a S5 like the one you have portraied
>>82178750
That mexican guy
first season is GOAT, rest is trash
>>82178659
>and his idea for an ending of the show was way better than what we got
what was it?
I got some good faps out of it
When I was younger this was my favorite show, but even back then I was really jaded Season 4, and each season was a steady decline after that. In retrospect Season 3 was probably the start of the decline.
Recently rewatched Seasons 1 and 2. They don't hold up as well as I would've hoped. There are far better shows that I've gotten into since then, but they are still 7/10. Season 2 is the best by far.
>>82178194
the first two seasons are good
the third season is okay
the rest is unwatchable garbage
>>82178750
The idea of Dexter having a friend and someone who knows what he does was an interesting ground to cover after killing off Doakes and moving his family life with Rita further, having the juxtaposition of a family he can't share his secret with and someone he can who appreciates it. They just picked the wrong guy to be his friend, not just the actor, but the character and his plot.
They also felt the police department and Deb needed some big season long killer to hunt after the Ice Truck Killer and the Bay Harbor Butcher so they made this overaching plot about some mexican gardener who was skinning people?? or something, I can't really remember because it was so forgettable and unnecessary.
It's actually interesting to go back to the earlier seasons and see how each episode had very much it's own thing going on with parts of an overaching story - almost every episode featured a different case the PD was covering or a different person Dexter was stalking. Then the show just becomes about season long plots and nothing happens or gets covered unless it's involved with the season plot and "end boss".
Here's how it should have gone
Season 1 - Remains unchanged
Season 2 - Remains unchanged except finale
Finale of season 2, Dexter is forced to kill Doakes himself, breaking his code, they show the entire kill scene without embellishing anything about it, focuses on humanizing Doakes and showing the wrong he's doing, but this serves as a reminder that he is an actual psychopath so while a conflict is expected out of the viewer there is none, he stages the framing of the scene to make it look like Doakes was the BHB, forever tarnishing his name, for his family and everyone he ever knew.
Final scene is Dexter at the crime scene with his colleagues acting shocked, all throughout this time and the killing itself there's no internal monologue, nothing but a voyeuristic shot of him as we see him murder a man and frame him for his own crimes.
Series end, a sobering reminder that he is a psychopath after all.

PURE KINO
>>82179066
2/10. Wouldnt even fast forward through that
>>82178376
Did anyone save the webm of Dexter spying on Quinn through a plain glass window at a restaurant.
>>82179030
Then in season 5-8 they have plots that last like 3 episodes, are dropped and never actually concluded
remember when Dexter was being mentioned along shows like Breaking bad and sopranos?
good times
>>82179091
Holy shit I forgot this
>>82179110
Really a 2/10
Can't get much lower than that, what do you rate the ride-into-tornado ending of season 8 then?
>>82178364
season 1 is great too
season 3 yes, it's shit. It also marks the beggining of "i talk with my dad in ghost form" which greatly cheapens the show, as the flashbacks were much more poetic, if you will.
season 4 was pretty good, despite me disagreeing with how stupid dexter was, it would've been a great season 3 and made the show a very solid 3 season show.
season 5 is kinda dumb but it's worthy of existing and watching
season 6 is the religious people one? its AWFUL, just watch the last episode and some "previously on dexter" to catch up
saeson 7 had hannah and the russian guy.. it felt like the show dragged too long by then. They should've kept or brought back lumen. But fuck laguerta i wanted her dead 4 seasons back
season 8 is just lame. Totally lame.

Watch Season 1 & 2, then read a summary of Season 3, then watch Season 4. After that you're done and you have a really good show.
>>82178481
delet
GOAT first season. Shitfest after that. Last season might be biggest pile of crap in history
>>82178364
1 >>>>> everything
Doakes made the perfect foil to Dexter. Wish they could have had him as a long running antagonist. Maybe slowly see the need for what Dexter does the more criminals they find that they can't lock up.
>>82178285
would un ironically watch
>>82179091
What do you think? :v
>>82179710
Did anybody else read the books, they're about as terrible as the show but in them doakes is mutiliated where he can't talk and has no limbs or eyelids or ears and left to rot in a hospital pretty intense. The books were better plot wise but didn't have good kill room scenes like in the show. In one of them dexter takes down a cult that was worshipping him kinda
>>82179572
>it's adexter you're a psychopathepisode
>>82179572

>>82179973
oh fuck right, what was the name of season 6 sk?
>>82178194
First season, yes.
Rest, no.
>>82179951
Michael C. Hall nixed it
>>82179144
that wasn't quinn, but some other "serial killer experiment"
and it's a stupid meme, because as i remember the guy didn't knew how dexter looked like, so D. could've spy on him even face-to-face
It was better in earlier seasons when he was really socially awkward. Once he starts having relationships and basically being a serial killer with zero emotional intrigue it all goes out the window
Plus the plot implodes after season 4
>>82180040
The guy noticed him and Dexter was surprised. Thats the whole point.
>>82179951
It was pretty clear by that point there was no long term planning behind the writing, the writers just did whatever the fuck they wanted arc to arc and plot threads were being dropped everywhere.
It was good until Showtime decided to appeal primarily to teenage fat girls.
>>82179991

This dude knows whats up
>>82178726
>dexter burns down his shed full of serial killer evidence
>mere hours later his wife is brutally murdered
>the burned down shed is never once even briefly addressed
Only reason I stuck with this awful show was because I had hope he would get caught by Deb and go to prison and kill people in prison. Blue balls: the show
>>82180848
just realized he is a producer so she probably fucked him to get the part
>>82181917
What is solitary confinement?
>>82182261
A place for Dexter to bribe guards to get out of and ice the worst of the worst that they want dead?
I love this show, Dexter might be my favorite fictional character
Season 1, 2 and 4 for are best, the rest are not near this level, but all have some good Dexter moments that you wouldn't want to miss if you enjoy the show.
The ending could've been better, but it's a really comfy show, I am glad that I've seen it
Seasons 1-2 are god tier, with the exception of the British bitch in season 2. 3-4 is when he starts talking to ghost James Remar which was honestly alright at first but eventually became a lazy way for the audience to understand everything that's happening. It's also where he becomes better at fitting in, so it takes that extra layer off. Plus season 3 suffered the Writer's strike. 5, while slow, was good because helping Lumen did bring Dexter the means to grieve over Rita, though this is when some of the writing really started to turn as the show turned much more formulaic. 6 was god fucking awful and basically tried to make another Trinity and fell flat. 7 was a slightly less enjoyable season 2, though it felt different. Actually had some memorable characters though. 8 was what happened when the show missed an incredible note to leave off on. Also, 5-8 is almost an entirely different show. It doesn't feel like 1-4 whatsoever, and looking back at season 1 will make you see the sharp contrast between the two. Overall, enjoy 1-2, consider 3 a 12 hour long bandaid to rip off, enjoy 4 the first time around because Trinity is an interesting villain at first. If you want the most natural ending, stop here. If you want a more positive ending, stick around for 5. If you want what I think should have been the ending, suffer through 6 and watch to the end of 7.
>>82179806
Books 1 and 2 were great. Though I'm not sure they could get away with the Yodeling Potato on Showtime. Dr. Danco was fucking great.
>>82183579
What the fuck were they thinking with this?
>>82183818
They clearly wanted me to laugh my fucking ass off, in which case they hit their mark perfectly.
