A salvage crew has more sense when it comes to quarantine than trained scientists. That really sums it up.

If not for the android betraying them by letting them bring in the alien, the salvage team would have acted correctly. So even that things go wrong is set up and has a payoff.

In Prometheus people act retarded, even though they're supposed to be smart, because the scriptwriter is a lazy hack. It's actually defended by implying they were high on weed.
