Basically it's a convention going back to early animation where if you give a character the body proportions of a young child or baby, it's because the character is made to be relateable to viewers that age.

They actually have meetings with their investors where they speak about a movie idea in those terms, how the plot and characters are specifically designed to capitalize on such-and-such demographic.

I enjoyed it.
Had good jokes, fun action, some needed character development, and the ending was great.
The main plot was a bit shite but the character interactions and dialogue made up for it.

Personally? I'm just glad that by some fucking miracle, he FINALLY wrote an intimidating villain for the MCU.

Yes, the foreshadowing was shallow as fuck and he ultimately amounted to the Sentinel Prime routine. But his callousness and ambition felt meaningful. He had a presence and confidence that wasn't spoiled by shitty gags-he even squashed Memelord's kitschy music player. And the sacrifice they needed to take him out was decently kino; it's strange, Guardians started out shit and somehow pulled one of the better endings in the franchise near the end.

Don't get me wrong, he was sorely underdeveloped because some idiot had the bright idea to have like 3 fucking independant plotlines that conveniently split the Guardians apart, and hold over a 4th only to foreshadow MORE spinoffs. But the end fight was like something out of The Mummy movies.

But holy shit are MCU Celestials weaksauce. A humanoid telepath can stalemate one mind to mind? A fucking NUKE can take one out at it's weakpoint? Christ, the C'TAN are tougher than these bastards and probably all because the writers feared normies couldn't handle a strong independant hyperdimensional space deity

Drax got annoying quick.

Starlord doesn't really get to be Starlord except for like a little bit. The Green and Blue ladies just suck up time.

The Racoon and the Blue Man Pirate were probably the best part, but they also get some cringey "emotional" scenes.

Also using Mr. Blue Sky for Groots opening dance was a bit weird.

It was visually amazing if that helps. Definitely the best looking/best effects of any Marvel film yet.

Making Baby Groot such a big part was a good idea, because goddamn this is a KIDS film. And I don't mean in the way that Marvel flicks are generally kids films, I mean this legitimately felt like an episode of an 80's kids film - Like Transformers or He-Man. And definitely not always in a good way. There's stuff here that will probably make little kids cry, but just comes off as cringey and on the nose to anyone in their teens or older. They literally yell stuff at each other like;

I found the same with Drax undermining emotional moments. I get it. The emotional moments were cheesy and sentimental and really kinda awkward, so they'd undermine them with a quip. However you had moments without quips, so it wasn't like it was consistent. Him undermining them all the time was just as awkward as letting them sit.
