I mean the Anakin Padme thing was bad but not cause of the antivillan. it's because Anakin was a crybaby who was like 10 when Padme met him then they fall in love over no mutual events or anything.

Rey is different. She has no one, there are no jedi's. He's another jedi. Someone like padme is always surrounded by people and could have her choice of people. Rey grew up broken so naturally she would be attracted to another person like her.

Finn isn't broken, he's spergy af. Like make him a white guy and everyone would be cringing their eyes out.

Except Luke wasn't a Mary Sue in the fact that he was a very flawed character.

Not only were his combat skills sub par from a lack of training but he was in a constant personal battle to abandon the rebellion and join his father. There's plenty of dark imagery surrounding him in episode 5 and 6. At the end, when he meets with the Emperor and is given an ultimatum, the audience wasn't suppose to know which side he'd take.

I am unreasonably angry about the direction the "new EU" is taking. Luke fucks off to do Jedi shit in seclusion. Han fucks off to do space nascar. Leia gets bogged down in senate shit. I get that this is more "realistic" than having them do space adventures together, but it's also bland boring oatmeal-flavored garbage. The EU had plenty of stupid shit in it, but at least those lows came with highs. It feels like the Lucasfilm story group took a salted-earth approach to the Post-Jedi era and I actually hate them for it. I also hate that Disney handed all of Star Wars to eight people with no functional imaginations, who can only rely on nostalgia because heaven forbid they approve an interesting idea.
