I think it's passed over so often because of how cliche it's setup is, but the further you progress, the more insane it gets. If it started like it ended, the payoff wouldn't have been as powerful as it was

Can you explain what you like about this movie?

I've seen it highly praised on this site, and after seeing it, i was left thinking 'meh'. It's not bad, it has some really good elements, but it is nowhere near the heights of the Boghart noirs.

It has very casual dialogue, it does come off as goofy sometimes. Elliot Gould plays Marlowe like a 40's Bogart, chainsmoking and smooth talking. That aesthetic is placed in the 70's LA. The whole movie is comfy, especially the soundtrack.
