Pretty much a hack. Definitely severely overrated by the reddit crowd. He's made two good (not great) movies and the rest is mediocre to shit.

As soon as "le consensus movie buff" opinion declared him "their guy" he secured a free pass for the rest of his career.

I like The Strain. I think it's a really unique show, and I'm sad it's ending soon. Del Torro is a pretty cool guy.
