season 1 is the slowest season, gets much better and more focused after that. one of the most consistent shows that's ever aired, whether you like it or not.

As for Deadwood it sucks how it got cancelled when season 4 was supposed to be the last one, but I don't know if it was really that good to begin with. Relied too heavily on the same goofy characters to say the same goofy shit and often hid behind its gigantic budget instead of crafting plots that made up for all the money spent. Aside from each season having one shocking death I never found myself invested in it like I was other HBO shows.

Very much this, while overall the character development is godly in this show, I feel like he was the only one who got pushed to the sides and who's character barely had an impact in the end which was a shame imo

Also I'm from the poor south and they really got the feeling of the town down perfectly. Not everyone was dumb redneck trash which was really refreshing. Usually in these shows that take place in the south it's all methheads with no teeth and jokes about sister fucking, but they went out of their way to make the townspeople feel like townspeople

I love the way Raylan outplays him in the "grab the gun" duel. So simple yet I still didn't see it coming.

The show wasn't perfect but the dialogue, characters, and generally everything important in a "what makes a show great" way was just perfect. Perhaps not my favorite show ever but certainly the most enjoyable, and definitely in my top 5.
