>After previously taking the film off its calendar, Paramount Pictures looks to be moving forward with a “World War Z” sequel, with David Fincher directing and Brad Pitt back to star, thanks to the studio’s new chairman and CEO Jim Gianopulos, according to knowledgeable sources.
>While Gianopulos has not officially official greenlit the movie yet, he is expected to do so in coming weeks. This will likely be among the studio chief’s first greenlit movies. Sources say that production would probably begin in the first quarter of 2018.
>A spokesperson for the studio has not yet responded to a request for comment.
>Variety first reported last summer that Pitt had been courting Fincher to direct the pic and that the director was intrigued by the idea. The plans had to be put on hold while Pitt dealt with his divorce from Angelina Jolie, and were put into question once the studio, then headed by Brad Grey, took the film off the calendar to consider whether or not to move forward with the tentpole.

All of his movies are schlocky though. Gone Girl, Zodiac, and Dragon tattoo are adapted from airport novels. Fight Club is for teenage edge-lords. Benjamin Button is a gimmicky Forrest Gump. Seven would have been an airport novel if it was a book. The Social Network was a cash-in that ended up being really good. Panic Room is a straight up thriller. And Alien 3 is Alien 3.
The man started his career making Madonna videos for chrissake.
That being said he is one of the best directors alive.

that the opinion that Zodiac is his best work is more often than not a parroted meme rather than an actual critical analysis of his style of filmmaking
Zodiac is an incredible film but it lacks the polish of his recent work. There are some dips in the narrative, strange shifts from points of view, and too much reliability on the truth of the story to make a dramatic impact. It's a great film and was his best at the time and still better than most movies ever made, but it just simply has more flaws than his recent works
