Twin Peaks threads have been great lately. We're less than a month away to the return, get in here and get comfy
>>
>>82088227
Fuck off to facebook, normie.
>>
What did you guys think of the book? And what questions do you have of the original show and movie? I probably have a few
>>
>locked onto shitty subscription channel in UK and US
As much as people claim to like this series, it's going to fucking bomb no matter what they do
>>
I can't get comfy until Lynch is getting "comfy" in his prison cell. How he has managed to evade arrest for 25 years is mind boggling.
>>
>>82088302
i liked it, although it seemed like frost ran off with his own ideas, since apparently david hasn't even read it, which is kind of worrying considering how much shit frost attempted to tie up on his own and how that's going to effect S3
>>
>>82088363
Can shows on a subscription network even technically bomb? I mean, even if it gets no viewers (it certainly will) its not like their going to pull something of the air they've already paid to produce.
>>
>>82088486
Low ratings = show gets canned, same goes on subscription or regular TV

Why would they pay for something that has failed to make money? That's what they are after, at the end of the day
>>
>>82088409
Fuck off, midget
>>
>>82088486
not really

he's probably just some assmad poorfag that cannot into torrents and has to wait for streams or some shit like that

a peppering of anons of that variety as well as contrarians shitposting are something you should come to expect as more and more regular the closer we get to premiere, and beyond
>>82088529
nah, not before the season is up it's already been paid for, you dolt
>>
>>82088529
the show is already finished, they went all in with this
>>
>>82088302
The book was like 75% UFO bullshit that no one cares about. But at least we find out what happened to a bunch of characters.
>>
>>82088227
>years go by nobody gives a shit about Twin Peaks
>news of season 3 comes up, the show shows up on netflix
>omfg so comfy! xD damn good coffee and pie!! can't wait for le season 3!! get comfy
>>
>>82088600
>>82088601
Oh right sorry I forgot bout the retarded US system of mid season cancellation

By cancellation I meant the superior Brit version where we air the remaining episodes and then don't renew
>>
>>82088529
They make money based on subscriptions, though. Presumably they take into a account how much of an increase in subscriptions and thus revenue they might get based on the allure of a show, and budget accordingly, but even if this is number underperforms staggeringly, its not like they can't keep showing it, unless they somehow think that it causes people to cancel their subscriptions. On regular tv if a show gets no ratings they have to pull it because they are loosing ad revenue. Shows can still fail, certainly, but subscription channels have been known to keep viewerless shows on air
>>
>>82088672
Nobody's going to "renew" shit, it's an 18-hour film disguised as a limited series.
>>
>>82088541
You can't silence me forever Lynch. You got Nance, you won't get me.
>>
>>82088638
also this kind of poster, perpetually booty blasted about muh twin peaks becoming slightly more mainstream (again) because he wasn't even alive when it first aired, the same could be said about a large portion of shitposters ITTs desu senpai
>>82088672
>Brit
>superior anything

eternal anglo pls, they wouldn't cancel it mid-season on a subscription network either

quarry probably did awful in terms of ratings and it still aired the entire season, although it'll probably never see a second season, mid-season cancellation shit only applies to non-subscription networks, where ratings are actually pretty fuckin important

don't reply to me again you fucking biscuit munching tea gargling incestually bred limey scum

Did James ever figure out what Laura meant by this?
>>
>>82088796
Why did you put the wrong quote on to make James look stupid?
The real quote is
"God, James is sweet, but his head looks like a thumb"
>>

WOW HOW COULD THIS BE HAPPENING?
>>
>>82088448
He cowrote every episode, so I wouldn't be too concerned. Almost guarantees that those inconsistencies'll tie in.
>>
>>82088874
i know, it just seemed like frost went off with little to no input and now lynch has to pick up that possibly unfamiliar slack as a result

i've got faith that S3 is going to be hype as fuck, but that was the only thing in the book that really worried me, especially with how heavy handed the whole UFO/government shit was
>>
>>82088672
>then don't renew

This is a miniseries you fucking idiot. It's been filmed, in its entirety, about a year ago.

Fuck you brits are stupid. I thank God every day I wasn't born on a tiny island.
>>
>>82088638
Twin Peaks was one of the most normie shows in history, though. Stop trying to claim you're cool for being there before anybody. Your parents know about Twin Peaks, everybody knew about that show.

I remember people talking highly about this show 10 years ago all over the place online, especially around circles of LOST discussions.

I agree the comfy/pie posts get annoying but it's par for the course. Movie was better than the show and I don't expect the return will pander at all to the fans looking for comfy quirky times.
>>
>>82088854
If I die my contact releases everything I've got on you. I mean fish in the percolator, the whole shabang. You kill me you go down for good you murdering bastard.

-Why was Josie only 65lbs when she died?
-What was up with the kid Dick and Andy were big brother to (Nicky)?
-Why did Nadine get retard strength?
-Where did Col. Briggs go when he disappeared?
>>
>>82088932
Well to be fair, Garland did probably write the dossier.I don't completely buy that he wrote it, but either way it was well within his character.
>>
>>82088638
>News of return makes show relevant once again

holy shit, anon, it really is so simple.
>>
>>82088997
Josie was only 65lbs because her head got stuck in the drawer knob. In one of the cut scenes from the show they showed her head behind a red curtain in the other place, indicating it had been removed from her body in the real world.
>>
>>82088997
Josie had gathered a shitload of garmonbozia, especially when you consider her backstory in Secret History. The weight loss might have symbolized BOB taking that for himself.

The kid was just a soap opera subplot that further parodied the format.

Nadine always had retard strength, even in the pilot. Strength of the insane, I guess.

The White Lodge.
>>
>>82089004
agree, actually liked how it set up the "hand off" with respect to said dossier, gave bobby's papa even more cred
>>
>>82088997

she was completely full of shit and when she died her bowels released
>>

I was under the impression the bullet which took her eye might have hit her pituitary gland or something else in her head, releasing strength hormones constantly.
>>
>>82089078
The book did have a lot of great moments. The extension of Josie's character, the weird intentional plot holes the kind of guy who'd play checkers instead of chess, and that bank explosion resolution made it all worth it for me.
>>
>>82089171
spoil me on the bank explosion resolution, anon.
>>

Pete shielded Audrey, taking the brunt of the explosion and saving her life, albeit barely. All things considered it was a good sendoff.

James'll be the antagonist.
>>
So people realize what happened to Josie, right
her soul was absorbed into the wooden knob, the same thing that happen to the Log Lady's husband, hence why she talks to the log. It contains the soul of her husband.
I only mention it because some people don't realize it.

James is such a terrible actor.

Does anybody remember this scene from Fire Walk With Me? The night of her death, their final conversation before they ride off and she runs away at the stop light. Sheryl Lee acts the fuck out of that scene and he's just giving nothing back.
>>
>>82089524
It's weird because he was better in the pilot. Not great, but better. So was Lara Flynn Boyle. But when the actual series began, their characters and acting became awful.

It's very hit or miss throughout the rest of its run, depending on how much you care about the town. If you like the town, then yeah, expect more shenanigans.

That said, the finale is a masterpiece, and more than sets up the new season. I'd say go for it, but expect it to get really fucking goofy before it gets great again at the end.

>>
>>82090192
Oh, and be sure to look at the Missing Pieces. Lynch releasing them a few months before announcing season 3 can't be a coincident.
I'd even recommend the 3.5 hour fanedit that puts most of the deleted scenes in the movie. The torrent's pretty healthy. Search Fire Walk With Me Q2.

I don't know, I'll think I'll be fine, though it'll probably be my uncertainty that'll bug me over the next few days.

I actually downloaded that quite a few months back. Never watched it though because I wanted to see The Missing Pieces as its own entity first.

Also got the extended Blue Velvet. Wish I could find the deleted scenes on their own though. They're not as spread out there as The Missing Pieces, so I haven't found a torrent of them.
>>
>>82090385
Definitely effective creeper throughout. Couldn't have cast a better Jacoby.
>>
>>82090384
>the POV boxing scene on the missing pieces

what did he mean by that?
>>
>>82090417
I couldn't find the deleted scenes for Velvet either, though I fucking loved that extended edit.

One thing I've noticed about Lynch's deleted scenes is that they usually include a few that are vital to the plot. Feels like if it weren't for time constraints, Lynch would've kept every deleted scene he revealed in the final release. He even said as much about the missing pieces.
>>
>>82090300
>>82090417
Absolutely not. That edit is only for people that dislike Fire Walk With Me and what it set out to do.

They were deleted scenes for a reason, inserting them back in jumbles the message of that movie and makes for a worse film.
>>
>>82090453
Made me like Chet a lot more.
>>
>>82090517
The plot is less important than the style of the thing, but Executives make unreasonable demands.
>>
>>82090517
>He even said as much about the missing pieces.

No he didn't. He deleted them for a reason. And if he really wanted them in there he wouldn't have released them as "Missing Pieces" he would have made a final cut version of Fire Walk With Me, which he obviously didn't, because those scenes don't belong.
>>
>>82090550
Lynch as said himself that if it weren't for maintaining a 2 hour time limit he would've kept at least some of those scenes. The "Where's my axe" scene was definitely worth keeping in order to better illustrate the context between that dinner and the following day's.

Lynch released those scenes for a reason.

"I had a limit on the running time of the picture. We shot many scenes that—for a regular feature—were too tangential to keep the main story progressing properly. We thought it might be good sometime to do a longer version with these other things in, because a lot of the characters that are missing in the finished movie had been filmed. They're part of the picture, they're just not necessary for the main story."

In short, he had to cut the missing pieces for time and to appeal to newcomers. He even considered editing a director's cut, but likely figured making a final season was more important. If he had his way FWWM would've been longer.
>>
>>82090593

>They're part of the picture, they're just not necessary for the main story.

Exactly. The scenes muddle the entire message of the film and contribute nothing of value other than to pander to Twin Peaks fans that wanted to see every character of the town return.

Please stop.. Just stop, the only people fascinated by this dumb fucking edit are people that want the movie to be the show, and it isn't and it wasn't meant to be.

>>
>>82090832

He didn't say that. He said the scenes were tangential, but definitely served his message. Part of the picture. Lynch had to pander to executives by cutting his runtime and to make the movie less confusing to casual audiences.

Sorry, dude. No.

He had all the time in the in the world to make a directors cut of Fire Walk With Me and include all the scenes in it, but he didn't for a reason, and it sure as hell wasn't time constraints.

You using the scripts existence as some sort of excuse that this was all MEANT to be part of the movie would maybe make sense if it was any other director, but we all know Lynch doesn't operate the same way, and if you want proof of that just look at the script for the original series finale and compare it to the actual episode that he came in to shoot.

I'm just realizing that Ray Wise would have been a god-tier Two-Face in Tim Burton's Batman movies.
>>
>>82091407
I'm seeing a lot of evidence against you and nothing for you. He didn't have all the time in the world to make a director's cut either (which again he wanted to do). Instead he busied himself with his art projects, his music, his TM lectures, his short films, Lost Highway, The Straight Story, Mulholland Drive, and Inland Empire. Not to mention a new Twin Peaks series to work on.

Also he never wrote that finale script until he reviewed and completely rewrote it. He did write the shooting script for FWWM, and spent the time, effort, and money, to shoot those scenes. Big difference.
>>
>>82091445
Seriously. It's so creepy, and it toltals what? A minute and a half? They couldn't find 90 seconds out of 2 hours?

He was so fucking good in Twin Peaks.

Sometimes switching it up in the same scene. He was topsy turveying like a mother fucker. I don't think he ever got an award for his performance either.

Also, where can I find a shirt like that?

I can just imagine a stay at home mom of the 90s, watching her soap operas and Twin Peaks being the hottest new trend, she's of course on board with it to find out who-dun-it, episode starts and it's jazz music playing over an excruciating 4 minute long sandwich scene that makes very little sense in terms of pacing, why the build up for it? why is he so passionate about baguettes? why is it so strange?!

television has come a long way since the 90s and Twin Peaks helped paved the way for it, but there are still things in Twin Peaks that to this day no other show has emulated or surpassed. This scene doesn't exist to be absurd, it wasn't inserted into the episode for one express purpose, it's just part of the show.

Richard Beymer actually got frustrated at Lynch during the shooting of this, because he didn't understand what he was going for. He had this idea for who his character was and this was not part of that idea at all, it didn't mesh. So when Lynch kept asking him to go more and more over the top he just got mad until he eventually just played it up to such an extreme he looked like a cartoon character, Lynch was finally satisfied.

Makes the scene even funnier.

Maybe of the original series but Laura Dern is in the new season and is going to steal the show.
>>
Did the movie confirm the dwarf was also evil, and not good, or even neutral? Why did he want a share of Bob's harvested suffering and pain?
>>
>>82101862
I figure (and it might say it somewhere) that these beings feed on it. Remember that Mike and Bob used to be a team and kill people. Then Mike gave it up and cut his arm off, which is the dwarf. So I think both of them are more or less neutral but they still need to feed on the garmonbozia.

One and the same.

yeah that's what happens when a 25 year old cult classic series gets a reboot

They why are they interested in stopping murders? Doesn't their sustenance require the cycle of pain continues?

Alright, so is there anything interesting enough in this series for me to watch it and catch up to the new season?

Intricate plot, really good action or acting, or just a decent allottment of titties?
Sell me on this as a bored guy who has watched a lot of movies and TV and doesn't care about reputations or kinos or patrician tastes. I just want something that's either titillating or actually good. Bonus points for not entirely predictable and formulaic like almost every show seems to be.
>>
>>82102548
The novelty of a show returning after 25 years is enough for me to watch it.
>>
>>82102548
It's a soap opera with underlying surrealism. And with this new season being on Showtime rather than network TV it should go even further in the direction it wanted to go initially. Go watch some of David Lynch's movies (on top of the first two seasons) to see what kind of stuff to expect from the new season.
>>
>>82101816
Use to LOVE Dern but she's a coal burning race traitor now. Nigger fucking whore.

What do?
>>
>>82102548
Check out the first three episodes and decide for yourself

It's kind of like a soap opera with underlaying supernatural themes and a very comfy atmosphere

Don't watch the international pilot because it spoils the whole thing. Also, if you watch the show, watch Fire Walk with Me (the prequel) after you finish it.
>>
>>82102548
>Intricate plot
Very, it's an on going mystery, much of it is never outright explained,
it satirizes TV cliches while also having some very abstract themes.
>really good action or acting
Rarely, the satirization of soap operas extend to the acting and dialogue. Laura Palmer is probable the best acting in the show and she's barely in it. But the poor acting is very fun, and really makes the serious stuff jump out at you when it hits.
>titties
no real titties, just waifu's
>not entirely predictable and formulaic like almost every show seems to be.
Again it's a show of two extremes, the hammy, predictability of daytime soap operas, mixed with the completely absurd, unpredictability of experimental filmmaking.
sweet comfy small town, mixed with pure traumatic horror
It is kino.

Best thing about Twin Peaks Fire Walk With Me was seeing Laura and friend getting eaten out at the bar!!!FACT!!!
>>
>>82102662
There's really no way to compare some of his movies to twin peaks. Sure, most of his work are similar and all have a sense of surrealism, but take Eraserhead for example, there's no comparison or similarities to Twin Peaks.

Or for people who want to see the Missing Pieces in context. Most of them would be in there if Lynch wasn't forced to cut everything down to two hours. It enhances the movie for me, a couple worthless but inoffensive bits aside.
>>
>>82102590
Okay, what I'm asking is
>is there anything interesting enough in this series for me to watch it and catch up to the new season?
Implying I have not watched the show, and that is what I'm asking about. Since additionally there is no way anyone could tell me what the new episodes that aren't out yet are going to be like.

>>82102677

Sort of on the fence after this. Is the supernatural stuff "noise in the woods that we constantly refer to but there's never any plot development", or actual writing? The "never explained" is kind of a red flag.
Have a place I can watch the first few episodes online in case it's not worth torrenting? My net's kind of slow.

haha enjoy your public tracker bullshit!
>>
>>82091138

oh anon
>>
>>82102770
There's shit in the woods that's talked about but never fully explained but there's also demons that actually do shit in the show and visits to supernatural places.

>superior Brit version

the only superior thing in Britain is gingivitis
>>
>>82102770
Trust me the less you know going in the better. I'll just say this, you seem concerned with formulaic aspect, and I see you're cynical about what it means to be "supernatural", you're thinking in terms of normal network tv. Twin Peaks is unique to this day, and the only way to find out if it is for you is to watch it.

Watch the first 3 episodes and by the end of 3 you will know if it is for you or not. But make sure you watch the first 3, not any less than that.
>>
>>82103030
Be honest with me, the first two are filled with relationshit garbage, right?
>>
>>82101745
He got cast because of his mom and he was total shit - he's lucky they let him play a vegetable instead of just kicking him off the show and pretending he never existed like Seven in Married with Children
>>
>>82103063
Not really. It sets up the show's main mystery and tone. It also introduces most major characters.

The show's kind of supernatural is pretty surreal, kind of like a dream.

Relationship garbage is on the show, and it's considered to be the worst part, but most of those plots end up going a really different way than what they originaly were, and end up being something completely different than "relationship garbage".

Anon, stop being so fucking autistic. The theatrical cut works well enough, yes, but Lynch was obligated to cut the whole thing down to two hours to release it. He hasn't released an extended version because he's a fucking autist who doesn't want to release official alternative cuts of his movies, not because they compromise the integrity of the film. Your "only people who like the show want the prequel to the show to be more like the show" idea is not only retarded, it doesn't make sense. Aside from like three scenes, the missing pieces tie only to the Deer Meadow segment and Laura's story. Most of them enhance the movie anyway.

>First Palmer dinner scene
>Laura under the fan
>Bobby subplot with laxative and extended basement scene
>Laura and Donna after Laura sees Leland leave the house with reference to angels motif
>Laura watching as Leland arrives home

Find a flaw with these. The only stuff that doesn't deserve to be in there are the two police station scenes and Josie/Pete, but those last a couple of minutes.

Fine, you sold me. I'm downloading a 720p version of both seasons and fire walk. But how the hell do I know if I'm watching the international pilot I'm not supposed to watch or not?
>>
>>82103390
It's the 'Complete Series' torrent? It has both versions, one is called Pilot and the other International.
>>
>>82103390
It usually says on the file name, and it last longer than the regular pilot (regular pilot is like 1 hour and a half, like a movie, and the international pilot is 20 minutes longer)

Give the show a try, if you don't like it, it's not like you lost a lot of time. If you like it then it will be a pretty good experience.

It doesn't have both versions, going by filesize this one is probably an even twice as long as the others (I'm assuming forty minutes for regular episodes), so it's probably the regular pilot. Will check length before watching though.

I stopped caring about private trackers a few years ago because I got busy with other stuff, so I let all of my memberships die. Still have my master spreadsheet so will get back into the ones I actually used when I have the time, but for now I'm just using extra.
>>
>>82103063
It has nothing to do with the quality of episodes 1 and 2 whatsoever, but something is introduced in the third episode that is part of the core make-up of the entire mythos. If you like what the third episode does, you will know whether or not the show is for you. But I think it is important to make it to the third one.

The "pilot" is actually a feature length film, at 1h30m, and while it is amazing I think episode 3 has more things that encapsulates what Twin Peaks actually is, so if you watch the feature length premiere and the follow up episode and decide you don't like it, you're missing a pretty big part of the whole.

Might start my rewatch this weekend. I wasn't sure if I was going to do it, but the show has been more and more on my mind lately, starting to really feel like doing it now.
