Basically if you want a repeat of the original alien it seems like you'll be getting that. I haven't seen any of the Covenant trailers so I don't know what's been shown but there's a chest-burst like scene except it explodes out of his back and his entire back rips open.

Not terrible. Basically seems like the exact plot of the original movie except more gore. If you like that then fair enough but I liked Promotheus a lot so it's disappointing that there doesn't seem to be much lore building.

Just got back from the Alien Day UK preview as well.

It wasn't the first 15 minutes for us , it was two scenes that look like they were each cut specifically for for the preview (if they weren't then the way it's cut is really off) .

First scene was the landing party dispatching from the main ship orbiting the planet in a drop ship and eventually landing after some banter. The jokes fell really flat - the dialogue between the shuttle pilot and the captain of the ship in orbit mostly consisted of them calling each other "sugar tits" and "sugar dick".

Next it cust to the scene you see part of in the trailer - one member of the landing party helping the infected guy into the shuttle medical bay.

The woman pilot who was stationed at the ship locks them both in the medbay after the infected guy started having seizures. Eventually an alien bursts from the infected guys back but it's a fully formed miniature alien rather than the traditional 'chest burster'. The CGI on this was pretty poor and the small alien acted a bit like a monkey (including sounds), it attacks the crewmember who had been locked in the medbay, she fights it off at first but then it gets all up all in her face and starts ripping into her.

Mean while the shuttle pilot that locked them in runs into the cargo area and takes a shotgun from the weapon rack, she then heads back into the medbay and goes to take a shot at the alien that is attacking the woman on the floor but slips on blood (second time somebody slips on blood in this scene) . She misses her first shot then crawls out of the medbay and manages to lock the door again (although she temporarily gets her foot crushed in the door as it closes).

She then runs back to the cargo bay as the alien breaks it's way through the glass , she takes a few more shots at the alien and hits it once which only seems to stun it, finally a stray shot hits something explosive which detonates the entire shuttle.

At this point the rest of the ground team are near enough to see the shuttle explode and the small alien runs through the flames and off into the long grass.

The crewmember they were escorting back also starts choking/falls to the ground and this time another minature monkey alien bursts out of what seemed to be his throat. The team all sort of act stupid/dazed and the monkey alien just runs off into the long grass.

I'm not going to lie, the film looks pretty shit so far, even after watching prometheus earlier. They definitely shouldn't of shown the preview straight after Alien. This might even be worse than AVP 2.

The one thing I really, REALLY like about covenant is how the ships look like they're straight from Space 1999

I really hate the fucking hats the colonists are wearing, I understand they're useful but they look so bad
The guns look really really bad as well, I loved the use of a target pistol in prometheus since they're almost always wacky shapes, just fucking AR's and AUG's are boring

Really what strikes me is how off the neomorphs movement is. In the original it was le tall dancing negro in the suit, with CG you would think it would be even more inhuman than a human doign their best to seem inhuman
But no, it's just copying a monkey and a couple of four legged animals

Only thing that looked off was the cgi and I'm assuming it's unfinished because the cgi looked better in the trailers and the prologue. It looks fine and Body Horror Kino. Isn't that what we wanted?

Did neither of you get the scene that takes place immediately after Prometheus? David flies the ship back to the planet of the creators and thousands of people come out to greet them and then it cuts to the new cast and the scene you described.

Tbh they showed way too fucking much of the movie I wanted to leave but I figured I paid for it and didn't want them to show anything exclusive. But they showed a spine and mouthburster AND four character deaths in a fucking preview.

Tbh it's not at all.

It feels like Ridley trying to redo what found him success in the first place after the backlash of Prometheus and understanding NONE of it.

There's not of the artistry and beautiful cinematography of Alien. There's none of the pacing and tense shots. It's a bunch of remakes of Alien scenes but shot for a hyperactive 21st century audience.

The spineburster is the perfect example. The original was a slow build up that turned into a horrific reveal. In Covenant it's flailing characters, flailing cameras, screaming, falling, blood splatters, contorting screaming shaking host, girl is crying running into things and running back and forth screaming.

It's just so fucking over the top. I was worried it was going to be "Alien" as a teen summer camp movie and that looks like exactly what this is so far.
