depending on how he got the news, it is understandable that he didn't realize what's going on and just went back to normal. i was at work when it happened and a friend who walked in asked if i heard that two planes hit the twin towers. i thought about small planes, not full sized airplanes. i didn't realize what was going on until i got in front of a TV set a few hours later

That's not what happened at all, I heard it live.

He got progressively more upset as they watched the towers burn then fall one by one. By the time both towers were on the ground, Stern was saying this:
