>>82073515
not necessarily. I don't believe in ghosts as spirits of the deceased, but ever since living in that house I do believe that hauntings could be some other phenomenon. There is a lot about the universe we don't understand, and I think that "ghost" activity could be some weird temporal glitch in the universe. All I know is that I don't believe that the spirits of the dead can roam the earth, but I do know for a fact something paranormal was going on in that house.

Generally nothing to grand, just typical stuff. Often we would leave the house, be 100% sure that we shut certain doors, and shut off all the lights and tvs and whatnot and when we get back, even if we were just gone for like 10 minutes all the lights and the tv would be on with all the doors open. Sometimes I would like put my laptop in one place, go to bathroom, and when I return it's been moved. I also ALWAYS heard noises downstairs when I was alone upstairs, one time it was so bad I thought my dog must be down there tearing shit up. Right before I got up to go check it out I noticed my dog sitting at the foot of my bed. I didn't like to stay upstairs home alone after that.
There was only one really scary, outwardly freakish thing that happened really spooked me. My parents told me they were going out to buy groceries, they yelled this to me downstairs as they always do, my bedroom was upstairs. I said "OK bye" and kept playing vidya in my room for maybe 15 minutes when I heard my mom call my name clear as day from downstairs. It wasn't in a sinister tone or anything, just like she always calls for me when she wants something from me, sounded EXACTLY like her down to the tone and mannerism. I said I was coming and saw that nobody was on the staircase. I went downstairs to look for her and nobody was home, the car was gone and I called them right afterwards and they said they were at the store. When I came down and saw that empty house a chill ran down my spine. I'm getting goosebumps typing about it.
It might not sound like that much, much scarier hauntings have been reported obviously but everything up until that point could be somehow rationalized even if deep down you knew it didn't make sense. Being confronted with something completely unexplainable shook me to the core.

FPWP. This is a REAL trope that I'm actually happy someone identified.
Casper (1995)
Beetlejuice
The Amityville flicks (Long Island is as close to New England as makes no difference)
Stephen King inevitably figures somewhere in all this.
There was a Robert Deniro movie like 15 years ago, a cheap thriller whereunbeknownst to himself, he turns out to be the killer because schizo
>>82087885
This is academic to the point of being meaningless. Amityville is honorary "upstate New York", a phrase that really means "everything not in NYC". At the exact same time, Amityville is honorary New England by being east of NYC and off on its own, "up and to the right", geographically speaking. It helps that in the grand scheme of things, Long Island is culturally patrish along the same lines as New England.
