>Vince McMahon WWE Biopic 'Pandemonium' Landing at TriStar (Exclusive)

>Glenn Ficarra and John Requa, who helmed 'Crazy, Stupid, Love,' will direct from a script by Craig A. Williams.
>TriStar Pictures is getting into the ring for a biopic about WWE chairman and CEO Vince McMahon.

>The studio is in negotiations for the highly-sought-after Pandemonium, which has Glenn Ficarra and John Requa, who direct and executive produce the hit television drama This Is Us, attached to direct. Craig A. Williams wrote the script, and Andrew Lazar, who produced American Sniper, is producing the project along with Michael Luisi, president of WWE Studios, and Adam Goldworm of Aperture Entertainment. Charlie Gogolak of Zaftig Films will executive produce.

>Pandemonium first hit the Hollywood mat last summer but studios hesitated. While the script scored high points, WWE and McMahon had not blessed it and companies didn't want to antagonize a powerful entity. When Lazar secured McMahon's life rights, the package in recent weeks made the rounds again and studios were ready to rumble. Multiple parties were interested but sources say that TriStar went all out in their pitch (even decorating their offices with WWE regalia). Hannah Minghella and Nicole Brown will oversee for TriStar.

>McMahon, known for his iconic showmanship, created the national sensation and obsession that is known as the World Wrestling Entertainment, aka WWE.

>After being raised by his mother and a series of stepfathers in North Carolina, McMahon first got into wresting through his father Vincent J. McMahon, who was a promoter for Capitol Wrestling Corporation. He shadowed his father (whom he didn't meet until he was 12 years old) when he was a teen and, after college, he made his debut as an in-ring announcer in 1969 working for his father’s World Wide Wrestling Federation (later called World Wrestling Federation) promotion. He spent years as a very successful promoter and commentator for TV matches.

>He founded his own company, Titan Sports, in 1979, and soon after acquired his father's company (which was later renamed WWE due to a trademark dispute). He ruffled feathers in the industry by starting to promote his company nationally at a time when wrestling organizations were regional and worked under an understanding that they would not invade each other’s territories.

>He focused on making the company's wrestlers big stars and celebrities in their own right – from Hulk Hogan and Andre the Giant to "Stone Cold" Steve Austin and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, and making wrestling a family audience event. By adding such pop music stars as Cyndi Lauper into wrestling storylines, McMahon further expanded the company from a regional entity to a national sensation.

>In 1985, he ran the first annual WrestleMania, the WWE's equivalent of the Super Bowl, at Madison Square Garden. He has also appeared on WWE TV, and occasionally competed as a wrestler, under the ring name Mr. McMahon, who had a legendary feud with Austin and faced off against many of the great names of wrestling. At WrestleMania 23 in 2007, an on-screen feud between McMahon and now-President Donald Trump culminated in a Hair versus Hair "Battle of the Billionaires," a match between two wrestlers who each represented one of the men. Trump's popular wrestler won, leading Trump, his wrestler and special guest referee Austin to shave McMahon bald.

>Ficarra and Requa also previously directed and wrote 2011’s Crazy, Stupid, Love and 2009’s I Love You Phillip Morris. They also executive produce and direct NBC’s hit show This Is Us. They are repped by CAA and McKuin Frankel.

>Williams previously wrote the script for 2007’s Underdog. He is repped by UTA and Aperture Entertainment. UTA also repped the project.

A true American hero.
>>
Oh my god

If they can nail Vince's personality
>>
How was Crazy, Stupid, Love?

I'd rather see Vince get the PTA or Aronofsky treatment
>>
>>82038763
PTA would work better. Vince is a real life Daniel Plainview, but stupid and only sucessful for sheer luck.
>>
>>82039141
>stupid and only sucessful for sheer luck.

Really? Not being facetious, you seem to have an opinion on the subject, but i figured he was an exemplary showman w/ business acumen, and did he ally all the regional properties or was that his father?
>>
>>82037670
holy shit this trish bit wouldnt make it on the air today...jesus christ, show would get shut down in one second
>>
>>82039141
>>82039299
its not really sheer luck. Vince was a hard worker and took risks other people werent willing to take that paid off. obviously with all risks luck plays a major factor, but it wasnt all luck. his success is like 50% luck
>>82039307
she got her revenge against him and ended up coming out on top in that storyline but yeah the raging social activists would never even let the story play out today
>>
>>82037670
>dat first vid

MUH DICK
>>
>>82039299
Vince won because everyone else was too stagnated on the old ways of the territories to realize a national league was the future. Arguably if Vince didn't do it first, someone else would eventually do it. Vince deserves credit? Yes, he saw a change and took a huge risk and, frankly with the shady way wrestling operates, he literally risked his life. But idealizing the guy and saying is a genius is another thing. That's why he's Daniel Plainview but stupid, he's a very hard working self-made man but kinda stupid. See the World Bodybuilding Federation, the XFL, the Lex Express, the Invasion angle, Super Cena, Roman Reigns and many more.
>>
>>82039592
Word, good points.

It's still so surreal every time i hear the name McMahon come out of the White House, like Spicer citing Linda a few minutes ago, so strange, their ascent
>>
>>82039592
>WBF
Capitalizing off the body building trend in the early to mid 90s. Would have succeeded if it wasn't for the steroid scandal.
>XFL
Never given a chance by NBC or football fans, so Vince had to resort to shock value to get any sort of ratings. Still responsible for the camera work used today in the NFL.
>Lex Express
Vince was too late on that shit, Lex was straight fire in the south in the 80s.
>The rest
Yeah.
>>
>>82039592
>the Lex Express

I forgot how big this was for a very short time, and how much my friends and i were into it as kids, sort of an aberration

Never watched wrestling or even gave it a second thought, but this actually seems like it would be pretty interesting.

The Rock, of course, considering he's a white actor from a white family playing white characters.
>>
>>82043268
The Rock's gotta play himself though. Probably get Austin do himself as well.
