I agree with you there. Less can mean more in some cases. I still think they aren't paced or edited that well after fellowship. The two storylines don't help it just becomes montonous going back and forth

The cinema version of Fellowship is so perfectly paced. I guess back then Hackson had people who said no to his dumb ass ideas. After that he went full Lucas. Everytime i finish fellowship i want to see more of it and everytime I cant stomach more than 30 minutes of towers.

I prefer extended Fellowship, split 50/50 between extended or cinematic Two Towers and cinematic Return.

Extended Fellowship's extra scenes give more Shire comfyness, flesh out the world a bit more and add more to the characters, especially Boromir.
Extended Towers adds some good scenes but also some largely redundant ones as well - the Mirkwood plotline being the worst example as it's the weakest arc in the film and the most bloated.
Return of the King is already a pretty bloated film but the extended edition turns this up to 10. It's just not worth watching extended Return unless you're doing a marathon or something.
