A great idea - have Mulder found out so much 'truth' with regards to aliens and the government, but was always in the wrong direction when it came to his initial motivation (his sister).
Unfortunately the series made it clear that there had been alien involvement (clones, men with no reason to lie telling Mulder it was aliens) so it turned a great idea into being a load of shit. If they had actually planned it from the beginning, or didn't rush it like they did, it would've been fantastic. It wasn't to be though.

Also, the introduction of a group of Lone Gunmen-like characters. Most likely either consisting of all women or being led by a woman. The guy who played Frohike has a daughter.

I remember it being voted one of the best episodes ever by fans around the time it came out, pretty sure it got mixed review from critics, there are so many twists and turns in the xfiles mythology it's not hard to get things mixed up. I haven't watched it for years but I was obsessed with xfiles in the 90's

Yeah, the only draw right now is the continuity. The reboot process, if they want to keep the brand going (which Fox most certainly does), will have to be a gradual one.

That's not to say it can't go in any avenue other than the spooky adventures of Einstein and Miller.
