Last couple of seasons were pretty bad

The show kinda went downhill as it kept on trying to ramp things up to some higher cataclysmic level which didn't even make sense.

The show did well at first because it was about a fairly small town that dealt with a few odd things while otherwise trying to keep it feeling relatively down to earth.
