Kek, I love how DC fanboys were actually getting their hopes up that this movie would get bad reviews because a handful of early reviews were kinda lukewarm. Talk about setting yourself up for disappointment.
>>
>Vol. 2 is filler, to be sure, but if you like the flavor of these movies, you'll enjoy this second bite.

>Where the original Guardians felt fresh, Vol. 2 now feels familiar -- sometimes pleasantly so and sometimes not.

>Vol. 2 is filler, to be sure, but if you like the flavor of these movies, you'll enjoy this second bite.

>In its best moments, the movie is irresistible escapism of the highest order, a scrappy, wisecracking cousin to Star Wars circa 1977. However, Vol. 2 can cruise on autopilot for a touch too long at times.

>It stands out more than some of the more routine films of the MCU, but whereas the first can still fairly fight it out in the top few, this is decidedly more middle of the road.

These are "fresh" reviews, according to rottentomatoes.

Where do you see the problem with that? Those quotes you posted clearly state it's an enjoyable movie with flaws and that's exactly what the scores reflect.

>>
>>82002961

>>
>>82002760
They're mixed at best. Certainly not positive reviews. That's the inherent problem with rotten tomatoes scoring, which is either fresh or rotten, and criticism doesn't work like that. There are a lot of reviews that are in the fence, and who knows who picks what's to be considered fresh and what's to be considered rotten. To choose an easy target, if I say, "Transformers is not a bad movie but fans are gonna like it", would you consider it a positive or a negative review?
That's the problem I have with the amount of faith put in the rottentomatoes percentage score. People are getting too lazy to even read a fucking review and just look at the big flashy number which not only does not determine if a movie is good or not, it's even deceptive to whether it's gotten a good, a bad or a mixed reception amongst the critics.

That's not the point though. Neither a 7 nor a 9 movie are anywhere close to rotten. Not sure why you are arguing that only almost perfect movie scores should be considered fresh.

It's 2 different reviews by 2 different people from the same site

You can argue about that (although it's not so uncommon, Forbes for instance does that all the time), but it's not 1 review written by 2 people and then split

They also had a world-wide simultaneous release. Good idea or bad idea, it's why Marvel doesn't do it - the drop can be spun as a big negative, especially if you've got a vested interest in doing so.
>>
>>82002511
This part made me mad originally, but after a second watch more recently, it kind of made sense. The act of dancing was so foreign to him he couldn't believe what he was seeing so he had to stop to observe it. If he had just destroyed the planet, he would never have known the the faggot from earth was doing and it would be really annoying.

Also he didn't think he had anything to be afraid of. He believed he was more powerful than Thanos even at that moment. Too arrogant.

Not just that - watch how many weeks out negative memes start getting forced around here. If it's Sony or Warner, you can damn well guarantee you're going to see them. If it's a Disney flick, it's all but guaranteed to be positive marketer-friendly shit. Slickly produced, too. Too slickly for just a casual fan to be doing.

And I love DC's characters, too. You won't find me devoting time and effort into shitting on the MCU with endless gifs and macro images, especially not with things I made myself. That sort of dedication denotes a paycheck or some masterclass autism.

After the drop they still make more money than most MCU movies. Suicide Squad made like 15 millions more on its second weekend than Doctor Strange on its second weekend

And then it's the outselling Avengers movies that introduce Spider-Man in bluray/dvd sales thing, of course
>>
>>82005613
You don't see 2nd week drops like theirs on movies that were good. BvS had a record breaking 71% second week drop. The movies open strong as everyone seems to give DC second and third chances, and then the movie fails.
>>
>>82005755
You have a unique definition for failure.
>>
>>82001579
The first one was the best Marvel flick yet, even that's not saying much. It was a 7/10 at the most. Probably a 6. I can only hope this one is as good.
>>
>>82004744
>It was true when "The Avengers" came out, and when "16 Hours of Ultron" came out, too.

It wasn't though, because in the Avengers we had already been introduced to all of the protagonists, the main antagonist, and this team-up was a cinematic event like none that had come before it. What does Justice League offer? A concept that's no longer new? A sequel to film that was shite by the same cast and director? Justice League needs to sell itself yet it's generation less hype than a Thor sequel.
>>
>>82005711
Really? You mean a movie with Will Smith, a movie that has the Joker and Batman, and everyone's favorite meme girl Harley did better than a d-list character? Color me fucking surprised.

These are DC's BIGGEST fucking names, and they're barely holding up to Marvels 2nd string heroes.

Batman Vs Superman should have outsold EVERY. FUCKING. MARVEL. MOVIE. It is the two most recognizable heroes in the fucking world. And it gets beaten. Why? Because it's shit. Only Snyder could take a movie that should have sold itself and been epic, and turn it into crap.
>>
>>82005819
It was a failure. Especially when DC heads predicted 1.4 billion. Add to that the astronomical costs of 410 Million to make it.

If Batman Vs Superman can't break 1 Billion, then it's a failure. They're the two most well known heroes in the world.
>>
>>82005837
>a cinematic event like none that had come before it.

Take it down a notch or two. All they did was throw together an ensemble cast of heroes, "prequels" or not. That's nothing new. Westerns have done it, Star Wars did it, Lord of the Rings did it, hell, the old Universal Monsterverse did it. It wasn't exactly all that innovative a concept, so feel free to dislodge Feige's dick from your mouth any time now.
>>
>>82006000
lol if you think any of that shit resembles what they did.

First of all LoTR wasn't a solo adventure turned epic team up. None of the shit you mentioned was.
>>
>>82005845
That's right, the third movie of an allegedly failed franchise annihilated a Benedict Cumberbatch movie ripping off Inception that was the 14th movie of a succesful franchise.

In 2016, DCEU and MCU made about the same money on theaters in the US, with the same amount of movies and the same budgets and the DCEU made more money in blurays/dvds. One introduced all their characters (or their franchise versions) except Superman and the other had 13 movies establishing the universe before. You have to be a special kind of shill to paint one as a failure and the other as a success, but then again, you ARE a special kind of shill aren't you?
>>
>>82005837
Batman is popular enough that pretty much anything you make that has his name on it will bring people in. It would be pretty exceptional if they finally reached a point where that isn't the case. That's probably true for the rest of the characters and DC in general to a lesser extent, but some of them I think are more "known" than "liked" (basically the same reason I assume fantastic four movies are always bad), and there's so much overlap between batman fans that I doubt they really count for much. Other than that I don't really see what keeps people going to these movies
>>
>>82005845
Spider-Man is the world's most ubiquitous hero and has been for a long-ass time. By the standards and rationalization to be found in >>82005964, that makes Civil War, a movie that had every single Marvel character except the GotG in it *and* Spider-Man an abysmal failure simply by virtue of having all that star power and momentum and still only just barely breaking a billion.

The funniest thing is that they don't even have to pay shills. I doubt any of the faggots in these threads get payed anything, they just try to out-contrarian the other contrarian in a never ending cycle of shitposting and failed logic.
In the meantime, we're still given awful regurgitated shit from both WB and Marvel and there's no end in sight.

You're actually claiming Dr, Strange's footprint to be smaller than Harley Quinn's? That dude has cultural exposure going all the way back to the 70s, same with the Hulk. Dude's had comic runs in ever decade since the 60s as well as stand-alone cartoons.

Yes. MUCH, MUCH smaller. Harley blew up. FFS they cosplay her in China and Japan.

Strange on the otherhand has always been around, but his comics were never big hits. They sold, but Harley could sell multiple titles at once.

In 2016, DCEU and MCU made about the same money on theaters in the US, with the same amount of movies and the same budgets and the DCEU made more money in blurays/dvds. One introduced all their characters (or their franchise versions) except Superman and the other had 13 movies establishing the universe before.

Also
>Also, I'm glad the "SS made more money than CW in BDs" meme also died.
It didn't, SS made more money than CW is video sales, the website isn't updated but it was a couple of millions away and Suicide Squad was the 4th top seller of the last week they have data:

Guardians of the Galaxy 2 is basically what would have happened if after a New Hope, rather than raising the stakes with the Empire Strikes Back, they just made another movie with same tone as a New Hope.

Modern Hollywood has lost the ability to balance Comedy and Tragedy, and will either lean so hard on one it ruins the other, or vice versa. The fact that I get a more emotionally balanced and fulfilling superhero story out of a fucking Japanese kids show, WITH better action as well because they still do practical stunts is pathetic.

This.

Also no matter what other people say.... it is contributing to the death of cinema. After all people have a limited income, and the more kinds of movies we have of this that they'll spend $$ on, the less likely they'll spend it on a somewhat original/non-franchise film.

In 20 years, unless Hollywood has a renaissance like it did in the late 60's/early 70's like 80% of movies released will be under the House of Mouse label, while 95% will be based on some franchise in general.

Sad times... but hopefully we get a 1970's film quality out of it again, though I doubt it.

... why? Meaningless technical awards are and have always been meaningless technical awards.
>>
>>82015583
The MCU doesn't need an Oscar, it already has the prestige from the public ;)

>Go ahead. Go find a meme getting forced about a Disney movie 4 months before it's released. Go see if anyone's autistic(or well paid) enough to force one day in, day out for months on end.
Yeah let's judge movies based on the memes they generate, you web 2.0 mouthbreather.

Basically any Justice League thread.

saw film gob's latest video and he points out that there's two fresh reviews scores from 1 review

Marvel's at the stage where they don't really need to shill anything. They just say "hey, we have movie" and put their name on it, and watch the cash roll in. Famous for being famous and all that.

>there's a literal graveyard filled with his dead half siblings that his father tried to use for his purposes
>Star Lord "beats" his Dad who has done this? BY SUMMONING A GIANT FUCKING PAC MAN
This sounds classic James Gunn writing m8
>>
>>82007820
Is his dad's name Martha?
>>
How annoying is Baby Groot?
>>
>>82017459
He's basically one of the favored "tension defusers." You want a scene with tense emotional depth, WELL GET READY FOR BABY GROOT TO FUCKING SMASH IT. That's the entire movie. You have to go in understanding that this film is going to be as serious as any of those awful Parody films from the mid 00s.

You'll have a scene that should be used to build up complex emotional situation and then Baby Groot will do something 50% of the time or someone else will say something. It's a film where a man confronts his father for murdering his mother by "summoning Pac Man"

Think of your favorite action movie from the 80s or 90s and think "Yeah, that's how the Conners should have beat the Terminator, by summoning Pac Man. Ripley should have fought the Alien Queen in a Pac Man robot. The Emperor should have been blasting Luke with little Pac Mans before Vader stopped him"
>>
>>82017677
Pac-Man fits Star Lord, though.
>>
Hey guis...the Pacman thing is a meme right?
That doesn't actually happens...right?
R-right?
>>
>>82017816
>Pac-Man fits Star Lord
No. No it doesn't. You've just learned what a scumbag your dad was and your foster father figure has just motivated you to fight back and what you use as your weapon isn't some connection you built between the two of you, but some shitty fucking game you played 20 god damn years ago before you were even taken to space where you've spent most of your life because OH SHIT I KNOW PAC MAN SO I WILL CLAP WHEN I SEE IT.
>>
STAR LORD IS AN 80S KID.

YOU KNOW, WHEN PAC-MAN WAS POPULAR.

IT MAKES SENSE FOR HIS CHARACTER AND FOR THE TONE OF THE MOVIE.

STOP BEING JADED PIECES OF SHIT.

The crigniness and the patreon links down there almost make it look like a parody of comics made by autistic manginas and tumblreenas, but it's probably a real deal and you are probably a real shill posting here without awareness we all think you're cancer.

>there is no balance between comedy and tragedy. ALL tension is destroyed with shitty quips. Find three Marvel movies with mildly different tones.
This is the problem with the MCU. It was really fucking atrocious in Dr. Strange. Trailer made it look like it would be more serious than the other movies and it does start out that way but then it just turns into "Quips: The Movie Part 14"
