Why do people pretend like this wasn't just another popular blockbuster? it made 800 million dollars. Yall act like it's some obscure arthouse film. It was a blockbuster that way underperformed because Snyder is a hack. Now he's bringing quips into Justice League because he has no artistic integrity. Can you stop spamming this movie?

BvS:UE was fine, aside from shoehorned WW and Doomsday. But why is it always at the forefront of DC kino on this board? Man of Steel always takes the backseat whenever these films are discussed even though its infinitely more better than BvS and SS.

THIS is Zach Snyder's true masterpiece
>>
>>82002757
This.

BvS will be a future cult classic don't get me wrong but the movie is too ahead of it's time,
i've seen it 8 times and i've only begun to scratch the surface at all the themes and ideas the movie tackles. it's genius.

MoS however is the perfect Superhero film. it embodies the true meaning of the american hero and so much more.
it is the Godfather of superhero films and will likely never be topped.

I'm in the same boat here, I loved the movie but I wonder how many people here say they did to trigger others. does /tv/ really like it on average?
>>
>>82002757
I agree with your criticisms of bvs but mos isn't perfect. Nolan kept Snyder from fulfilling a spectacular vision that could've been realized. Quite frankly there was too much mindless action without any emotions or motivation attached to it. They also botched the build up/origin story pretty bad, exploring it a little more would've helped break the pacing of the film better. There's also music and loud explosions constantly(before you say that doesn't matter watch this https://youtu.be/NUrTRjEXjSM )
Zod was a terrific villian though, one of the best I've seen done, the score was pretty good, and the third was nearly flawless but the first two are heavily flawed.

The scene when superman dies draws very strong allusions to the death of Christ. Supermans characters is an allegory for Christ and doomsday is an allegory for mans sins and superman sacrifices himself to defeat doomsday mirroring death dying for our sins. The scene is done in the same way many depictions of Christs death these could interpreted as a literal comparison or as a device to show us a human perception of a being of great power.

It's pretty self explanatory but the messiah allegory ultimately goes back to the main themes of rising above the darkness of this world for valor. We see this themes expressed in a religious sense and secular sense through the different characters.
>>
>>82010769
So you've gone into three things so far that are completely self-explanatory.

How any of that alludes to larger themes.

I'm looking for something here that isn't completely obvious to the point of being insulting.

If you can't explain or connect to any larger themes, then you've failed to prove the initial assertion that snyder ever alludes to larger themes than what is patently obvious.
>>
>>82000455
What is there not to understand. Superman destroys a city to set up the next movie where batman hates him for ~10minutes and then they become BFFs and team up to kill a giant CGI wubstep booger.

>>
>>82010952
>If you can't explain or connect to any larger themes, then you've failed to prove the initial assertion that snyder ever alludes
You asked how Snyder alludes to larger themes through religious symbolism I explained that he uses to draw allusions between Christ and nietzschean philosophy to draw back to the main theme and to also present in a light similar to our increasing polarized world. If that doesn't answear your initial question than your just trying not to like the movie in the most contrarian way plausible. The thing that's made the movie so liked is that there are multiple ways themes and angles in the movies to analyze.
>>
>>82001858

>>
>>82011186
Again, those aren't larger themes. They're _the_ themes. They're the completely obvious and overt themes directly being established by the use of religious imagery.

I'm asking for how the use of religious imagery alludes to larger themes. You've done nothing but illustrate the completely flat, surface level, completely overt themes.

The religious symbolism used to draw the connections between the Christ allegory and as a device to contrast the nietzschean philosophy is used to present the theory of christus victor, a theory of atonement, and what the death of Christ/cross would achieve. The prophecy, is battle that takes place between the Son of Man and the Satan that would play out with Jesus and the devil ultimately striking each other simultaneously. We see this theologically rich metaphor played out in the end of bvs. We see the theroy expressed through other symbols such as the spear of batman being the spear of the Roman soldiers killing Christ and superman using it to kill doomsday shows even further that they are incorporating the theory to help express the divine exchange Jesus commited. The nietzschean theme being expressed is contrasted with the religious symbolism to highlight the idea man did create God in his own image but rather he created the devil in response to God's presence. The literal translation of übermench being superman

Is this seriously what people think is good writing?
>>
>>82011430
People fail to understand the brilliance of BvS because they can't think like a genius who is plagued by his own intelligence and demons. When Batman hears the name "Martha", he doesn't go "wow his mom has the same name as my mom", he goes "Whatever this alien has gone through in his life...he has become human." When Lex talks, it's because his narcissism and ego have convinced him he is as close to god as he can, and the presence of Niezche's Ubermensch threatens his status as a living god. He is scared, and it's the first time he's been scared since his father was alive.

Essentially, reddit doesn't understand the psychopath unless he's yelling out CHIMICHANGA or WUB A LUB A DUB DUB
>>
>>82000455
Why do people act like this flick is so complicated?

This movie literally has a scene in the middle of the movie where it cuts to Perry White in his office yelling about where Clark Kent is. Any logical film would obviously then cut to Clark Kent doing Clark Kent things or being Superman.

But no it cuts to Lois Lane. Why? Bad editing.

If bad editing, ham fisted religious diatribes, and religious imagery make a film kino. Then around 80% of capeshit is kino.

Marvel and DC are both trash.

But Snyder trash is the worst. Because it thinks its smart, when in reality it isn't and people like you assume because it isn't well received is because it's too smart for everyone else.

This movie will be forgot in 5 years.

And those who think Snyder is the modern Kubrick have to be brain dead.

Snyder can frame great shots, yeah cool.

Listen to his commentaries. He has no insight. He literally made things up on the day of shoots because he thought they looked cool.

He is a frat boy who pretends to love Ayn Rand objectivist trash.

Stop shilling this trash.

Oh by the way The Secret Life of Pets made more money then this garbage.
>>

>>82013546
I never ever said it was too smart for anyone. He asked me about the religious symbols and I explained it.
>>
>>82013480
I was explaining the scenes that were based off religious/theological moments. Some of the scenes serve different elements other than to be solely a a comparison to Jesus. For example in certain scenes superman parallels Joseph and in others the archangel Michael
>>
>>82013808
So having religious imagery that is obvious to well everyone makes this a good movie? okay got it.

Maybe if it was more subtle I could agree. The Death of Superman was always a story that was supposed to be about the crucifixion.

Pretending Snyder did something groundbreaking by having him stabbed by a spear as well is bullshit.

Superman has always been an allegory for Jesus.

Maybe if in Snyders films they showed him doing whatever he could do to truly save others it would work better.
>>
>>82013140
ha implying anything Marvel has made is good.

This is the biggest problem with the defense of this film. If you dont like it, that means you must love Marvel.

Marvel is trash.

Ive always appreciated DC characters more but they are just as trash.
>>
>>82014084
I think it's the mixture of religious allegory mixed with the nietzsche to mirror our political climate is what people liked not just the messiah allegory.

The point of the spear was to suggest the theory of christus victor which suggest Jesus consciously knew what his sacrifice would do and sought it out. Having superman himself plunge the spear in doomsday to sacrifice himself suggest Jesus willingness to sacrifice himself to save man from sin
>>

Your bring very disingenuous about what I'm stating. Ok let's just assume the themes I stated are the only themes in the movie and are also painfully obvious, let's just assume that. Does that take away any of the meaningfulness or impact of them? It's like staying the scorpion and the toad has obvious themes so there's nothing you can take away from it. Trying to make me insecure by repeating it was painfully obvious and proceeding to name call just shows you don't have any real criticism of this movie. I'm not saying it's hard to figure out the themes but I am saying the themes can be analyzed how they apply to the real world. The archetype types of the characters with the themes create a story in which you can dig for deeper things. Like the bible, everyone knows what the meaning behind the stories are but that doesn't mean you can't analyze them. But I'm pretty certain your just a troll at this point.

>Maybe if in Snyders films they showed him doing whatever he could do to truly save others it would work better.

Like die to save the entire planet? Wield a weapon that turns him into a mortal so he can defeat a monster created by the people he is trying to save?

The imagery goes beyond saying Superman is Jesus. The visual parallels are there but the grander theme is that of the human need to project ideas onto figures in a world devoid of meaning. People see him as a god and as menace, and Snyder shows those perspectives. The film still reminds you that Clark Kent was just a person. The comparisons are undeniable, the way people see Trump as Hitler or Bernie Sanders as Jesus, but that's just projection. Superman defines himself through his own actions, but his internal struggle in this film is getting over how other people define him. He is uncomfortable with being seen as divine or demonic, but learns to accept that by continuing to be himself.

This was just stupid writing. As wonder woman was far more effective against doomsday than superman was even when superman wasn't holding kryptonite.

Is it bad writing, or is Lex foolish, manglinh classical ideas to fit his mode of thought?

*quantify
>>
>>82017457
You made (or got stuck attempting to quantify) the claim that the imagery in snyder's films alludes to larger themes.

Then you spent four posts reiterating the obvious, most basic thematic elements of the shots and never once touched upon a larger theme or described anything that could allude into larger themes.
>>
>>82017578
Bad writing. As it requires lex to be intensely stupid. And any element that requires intense stupidity to function is always bad writing.
>>
>>82017270

Wonder Woman did all right. But every blow from her that didn't kill Doomsday would just cause him to adapt. So she could only do well for so long. Cutting his arm was probably the best she'd do

And they all just met. There's no group tactics. It takes months for a real infantry squad to begin to gel. They were all just whaling on DD

Nevermind the fact that Superman is Superman. He takes the risk to protect others. And WW had Doomsday in her lasso. It was a golden opportunity to get that killing blow.

There's no guarantee that Doomsday couldn't have adapted to the Kryptonite if he had been merely wounded
>>
>>82017768

I don't know if you know this but sometimes people are stupid in real life.

It requires him to be arrogant though, not stupid. And Lex has always been arrogant. Flawed that way. So driven by things he thinks are right that he can't see the truth.

All Star Superman had a good handle on that I think. Especially when Lex sees the way Superman does and realizes how wrong he is
>>
>>82017781
I'm not asking for cohesive unit tactics, I'm asking for superman to realize
>hey, this shit is killing me but shes doing alright and seems pgood with weapons, here you go strange woman I've never met who's clearly stronger than me, use this, should equalize the playing field a bit.

instead of

>oh fuck I can't even swim when I'm near this and I almost just fucking drowned. so I'll use it to try to kill something several times more powerful than I am
>>
>>82017907
Real life does not have a script writer. People being stupid in real life is not justification for having stupid people in a script, as that's just the writer using stupidity as an excuse to be lazy.
>>
>>82016901
>there would be no evil in the world.

I swear, everytime athiest bring this retarded question or similar to this it's always out of orrogance and ignorance.

God gave man free will. Free will to follow, or do there own stuff. Free will to make peace, or cause wars. Shit that's happening in the world is because of sin, and selfishness of man.
>>
>>82017961
this counter argument comes from a lack of understanding of what "omniscient" means. For an omniscient being (read: God) would know, from the moment of creation of the universe, everything everyone would ever do. Thus making God responsible for all their acts. Thus making God the source of all evil in the universe. Thus making God malevolent.
>>
>>82017737
I mentioned the religious symbolisim works for the messiah allegory(christus victor) and talked about how the messiah allegory fits into the other themes. Discussing the relationship between that and Nietzsche's philosophy presented in the film that both leads to the main theme of the movie which is transcending the darkness and base of the the world for a life of valor (a life of the übermench) how exactly did I not explain what I said I would explain again?
>>
>>82018058

>>
>>82017912

Yeah I can see it now

>hang on there evil monster just like that! I have to hand off this weapon to this stranger instead of charging you while you're vulnerable

Nevermind Batman blew his load with his Kryptonite grenade. There was literally no better moment

And if he was the kind of guy to hand off danger to other people, he wouldn't be fucking Superman.

>>82017949

>I don't think people in movies should act like people in real life
>>
>>82018289
"acting like real people" is just a lame rationalization for bad writing.
>>
>>82016836
If you think these themes (which is one of many) is small minded or not well thought out, then I think you don't understand depth.

But there's themes of patriarchy, matriarchy, guilt, world culture, etc. Movie is well done. It's unfortunate you can't appreciate this, because I don't see how you can appreciate anything else.

Personally I bet it's just bc it's religious imagery that ruffles people's feathers. >Muh athiesm and edgy psuedointellectualism can't be challenged by stoopid skyman myths
>>
>>82018289
Oh so now we're going to act like zack snyder's take on superman is resembles in any way, shape, or form, any character that ever had the name.

I guess you're done here.

I honestly think the actual Batman Superman fight is the worst action scene of Snyder's career. Everything just felt so slow and oddly floaty. It was Iron Fist level bad.
>>
>>82018399
Considering you're going to have to backtrack on year's worth of shilling to the tune of "NOT MUH" to try to claim snyder's superman is remotely similar to any other superman, yes, you are completely and totally done.

and so, much, more.
>>
>>82018307

You really want movies where everyone is James Bond? Makes the right choice all the time, knows everything, has a clear view of the world?

Lex is unhinged. He grew up in an abusive house hold and latched onto philosophy to justify his perceptions. But it's filtered through his warped perspective rather than true to the initial intent

It's not stupidity.
>>
>>82018566
Movies where characters act rationally.

I know, that might as well be super-genius james bond stuff! That's totally not relatable at all to the average person.

Lex luthor was psychotic in this version. He ends up in Arkham after all. His motivations are under the control of the JL villian who gives him the insane urge to kill superman. That's why he acted so strange. Would you have preferred if he had a real estate scheme like he has every other time he's been in a movie?
>>

Oh boy. In classic /tv/ fashion you've dodged addressing half of the things I've written. Picking one thing out of a post and going with that. I could go into other Superman media, comics, movies, cartoons, and you'd find one thing to respond to and dismiss the rest.

Why bother? If you don't like the movie, why keep talking about it? Why respond to any if these threads? I actually like the movie

You're right about one thing. Snyder Superman is unlike previous versions. He's better in a lot of ways. And he's converted a lot of new Superman fans. If you don't like it, there are numerous other things you can spend time on.
>>
>>82018739

Crazy yes. I don't buy that he was under influence from Apokolips. He didnt access the Kryptonian archive and learn about Apokolips til halfway in. And his scheme was well under way by then

No, this is classic Superman hate on Lex's part. It has a certain pseudo philosophical twist, but that's the sign of Lex's own derangement

I really can't wait to see more of this Lex though
>>
>>82019145
negro, you wrote a single line. How the hell could someone dodge half a single line?

The problem with snyder's kal-el is the DCEU has never established any reason for clark to be selfless. Yet he has to be, for no good reason, at key moments otherwise its not a "superman" movie.
>>
>>82018627

Crazy people aren't rational.
>>
>>82019245
no NO! you see, the movie is non-linear in my headcanon, and lex actually comes into contact with apokolips and chills in the kryptonian ship the entire time between the zod fight and the end of bvs! Despite absolutely nothing indicating this!!
>>
>>82019308
yes, they are. The crazier they are the more rationally they conduct themselves. As crazy and rational aren't mutually exclusive. The craziest people have an intricate network of logic to justify their outwardly irrational behavior.

snyder's luthor just read some dog-eaten philisophy 101 cliffnotes and regurgitated them.
>>
>>82010755

>>
>>82019253

Here:

>>82017781
>>82018289

To address your point, yes they have. The death of Jonathan Kent is a big moment for that. Actually like 3/4ths of the things the Kents say to Clark informs his values. His own selflessness.

And that is just one of those things inborn in Clark as a person.

But, I am not going to argue about this all night. You liked it or you didn't. You clearly didn't. Go watch something you actually care about. Discuss that with a bro and feel good about it.

That's what all this shit is for, anon
>>
>>82012831
They don't understand because it wasn't explained well in the movie. The director didn't give them the pieces needed to understand why that name was important. It's either that, or people realize that they're reason for fighting is proof of bad writing.
>>
>>82019321

The movie was written so Lex is introduced later and a lot of the ship stuff happens closer together

But Lex set his plan to go after Superman in motion before the ship. He was looking for Kryptonite before he gained access.

He just wasn't ready for the cosmic shit he found

Don't do the headcanon thing man. Watch what's there
>>
>>82019537
every line from the kents to kal-el is telling him to be a selfish ass and think only of himself and his safety.
>>
>>82019595

He practically beat you over the head with the importance. Superman doest just say Martha and they stop fighting. There's a whole flashback to Thomas Wayne saying it as he dies in the street.

The only way it would've been clearer is if Michael Caine came out to give the exposition for it. But Snyder is a show, not tell kind of guy

Yes he does, he finally gets his revenge and validation on what he feels is basically an alien terrorist who leveled an entire city and killed tens of thousands of ordinary people.
