Has this series had the most kino cinematography so far?
>>
Bradely in the Christmas special is a terrible idea. The PR guy said he can't see it being a two parter, just standard one hour length. Two Doctors crammed into a one hour episode will be terrible and especially considering it's Capaldi's last episode, he won't have space to properly shine. This will only work if the BBC allow the episode to be 90 minutes.

Someone tried telling me that this was the Doctor. I told him no that it isn't the Doctor and that there are only 4 Doctors and maybe 5 because of the War one and that this guy isn't one of them! I swear I don't know what he was talking about. I mean Peter's old but he's kind of handsome. Why would the Doctor ever be old AND ugly? I just don't get it.

Anyways I'm new here. What do you guys like? Who is your favorite Doctor? Mine's the second one David Tennant. He's so cute. Also im gonna go watch Journeys end cause I think it's like the best series closer ever and it's a lot of fun. bye!

Even in the early days, when they were alternating historical human baddies with sci-fi monsters, we got stories like The Rescue, where the monster was actually the human colonist in disguise.

The only time the show ever really didn't do this was the Saward era, because humans being the baddies was almost always the up-front premise, so it couldn't be the twist.

Almost none of those are examples of the trope, no matter how hard you try to stretch things.

Half of them are stories where there are no baddies, just two sides who misunderstand each other. In some of those, like Vincent and the Doctor, the humans don't even do anything wrong at all.

Others, like Journey to the Centre of the TARDIS, the human baddies are the baddies right from the start.

Exactly, all the Doctors are excellent in their own way, none are outright "bad" except MAYBE 6, but only cause of the writing and decisions made during his tenure, not his performance.

Guys, I'm actually really liking Whovians. I thought it would just be the BBC paying some semi-famous people to awkwardly shill the show, but instead it's real fans who can basically say whatever they want but also have access to some bonus behind the scenes content. Definitely less cringey than something like The Fan Show and in the future it'll be a good time capsule of the current fandom.

The episode is set during the era when there were more black people in London than at any time until the modern day (as in 1960s-now). Any slave who could make it to England was automatically freed, but their freedom wasn't yet legally protected in the colonies.

The upshot was that there were around 10000 black people in London the 1810s, as opposed to only a few hundred a few decades earlier, and about 1000 a few decades later.

And there are many written records of people at the last frost fair noticing that holy crap, there are a lot more black people in London than I thought there were. Partly because it was a completely disorganised, spontaneous event, so all of London came together and interacted in a way they never would normally.

So it makes total sense to have that line in an episode set at the last frost fair. It's not historical revisionism at all.
>>

BBC management are even dicks to the main cast. I remember some manager gave out to Tennant because he stopped to play cards with the crew in one of the behind the scenes vids. They all laughed it off but she was dead serious. Also John Barrowman was shouted at by one of the Directors. The majority of BBC directors are humourless cunts.
>>
>>81977350
McGann could definitely pull off a solo episode, but I don't think he could pull off this particular solo episode without some rewriting.

In fact, if it were his solo episode, I'd have him talking to himself without pause for a pretty long stretch of the episode—which I don't think Capaldi (or Eccleston or Colin) could pull off as well as him.

It's been a while since I listened but this was pretty similar to Phobos wasn't it? The Doctor confronting an enemy that fed off of people's fears, and he defeats it by showing the creature his thoughts and all the crazy shit he's seen but in the end the stuff that really saved the day was "all the things he feared he might one day have to do" (which was a pretty obvious Time War foreshadow) in the same way Clara's "infinite possibilities" did.

Unfortunately, only ten months after arriving in their household, Tiger fell ill and surgery uncovered tumours on his liver and spleen. John and Scott were forced to make a very hard decision and, to prevent any further suffering, they gave the vet permission to put Tiger to sleep.

>Tiger helped to raise money for Dogs Trust by appearing on stage with John during the pantomime , Jack and the Beanstalk. John and Scott called him their shining star and loved him like he'd been with them forever. That month, fans donated over £700 to Dogs Trust in Tiger's memory.

At the time, I thought it was near perfect, but I'd only give it a 9/10 or so in retrospect.

Rewatching it a few years ago, the execution really isn't as good as I remembered it being at the time. Probably I gave S25 too much credit because, you know, S22-24. Still good, but not actually amazing the way it seemed.

Also, Lovecraftian gods in Who just aren't as much fun after the VNAs recast every superhuman villain in the classic series as one of them. But then you can't blame Steven Wyatt for that.

People are partially seeding the torrent so inspite of the fact that you added so many trackers it was unable to find any new peers and thus your download is going to be incomplete. Look under files and determine which files are 100% and which are not and after that you will need to get the incomplete files from somewhere else.

>>81979554
Are you relying on NAT hole-punching, rather than explicitly opening the port and forwarding it to your laptop (either via configuring your router or UPnP)?

If so, two possibilities.

First, if you've changed IPs recently (or change IPs frequently), the way bittorrrent does hole-punching introductions, that can lead to a huge swarm of failed connections, and then recovering from that can take quite a bit of time.

Second, if there really are only 3 people who have that last 12%, and they all happen to be relying on hole-punching too, you won't be able to connect to them until there's someone else who's connected to both them and you. Which, for an old and large torrent like this, could be a very long time.

You are talking nonsense. I just gave anon about 100 different trackers to add to their torrent. Obviously a good proportion of them are offline and it doesn't really matter whether they are online or offline - just we're trying to find more peers for anon and to determine whether or not there are just not people seeding the files they want.

Clearly, despite adding so many trackers and having DHT and PEX enabled they still can't get the file which indicates that the problem is lack of seeders as indicated by 0.808 availability. No matter what they're doing with their firewall they aren't getting 100% availaibility.

Anon will just have to find another torrent with the files that are incomplete or sign up to a private tracker and get it. The end.
>>
>>81979807
On Mac, the official BitTorrent client has the exact same guts as uTorrent, so there's no reason to switch to that one.

The most popular alternatives are Transmission and QBitTorrent.

But neither of them is going to solve your problem.
>>
>>81979931

http://audiobookbay.me/audio-books/doctor-who-big-finish-large-collection-multiple/
The same thing happened to me except it got stuck at 73.3
>>
>>81979959
The number indicates 0.808 availability
Anon has downloaded 78%. Therefore this person must have peered at one point to get almost 100% of the available files which makes peering problems unlikely. And moreover it's probably not worth worrying over as no one is seeding the full set of files anyway.

Also making peering problems unlikely is the fact that there are 3 seeders and not just a sole seeder.

>>81980012
You can also wait and see if someone else comes online with more files later on but I guess it's annoying with public trackers because oftentimes people don't really seed for that long.

>>
>>81980350
Ah good, now I don't feel like such an oddball.
>>
>>81980096
Yes, uTorrent counts "availability" based on who you can reach.

Anon peered with a bunch of other people who have 78%, so now he has everything they have. He can keep peering with those other people, but they won't give him anything new. If he sticks around, he might get to peer with the people with 80.8%, because they're reachable, but that won't help much. Only if someone in that swarm can reach one of the seeds will anyone in the swarm go over 80.8%.

And if all three seeders are firewalled (which is not at all unlikely for an old, niche torrent in 2017), the only way that's ever going to happen is if someone who's not firewalled joins the swarm.

>A real fan can't rank the Doctors, because there's just nobody that can possibly come in last place.

But of course anon is wrong. Obviously someone is in last place. It just can't be Hartnell, because he created the role. Or Troughton, because he pretty much defined what the Doctor is for all later Doctors. Or Pertwee, because he had the best action sequences, and the interaction with Delgado in S8—and, even better, in Frontier. Or Tom, because even when he was drunk and ignoring the scripts to ad lib nonsense, it was fun and comfy nonsense. Or Davison, because, come on, watch Enlightenment. Or Colin, because he's done most of the best Big Finishes. Or McCoy, because, even if he doesn't have much range as an actor, he did a perfect job playing the S26 Seventh Doctor. Or McGann, because he's just a hell of an actor, and he did all the best audios that weren't Colin's. Or Eccleston, because Eccleston. Or Tennant, because all that normals-hype isn't based on nothing, he really does have charisma coming out the arse. Or Smith, because he made the Doctor alien again. Or Capaldi, because yeah, right, like you could even pretend Capaldi's the worst with a straight face. John Hurt? No. One of the Unbound/Curse/etc. Doctors? They're all brilliant.

I mean, there has to be a worst one. I just can't decide which one it could be.

>Bill's "Have you ever killed anyone?" in the trailer for the next episode
I guess the "Bill takes a fresh look at the series' premises" meme doesn't just include things like the TARDIS acronym being in English. As far as I can remember, the only companions who even had much of a reaction to learning that the Doctor's willing to kill people sometimes are Rose, Donna, and Ian. That's it. And Donna was the only one who brought it up more than once. Death is normally so trivialized in Doctor Who, companions don't seem to give it a second thought. Granted, the Doctor always has a good reason, but you'd think there'd be some reaction to learning that your quirky alien friend has no small amount of blood on his hands. Right now Bill just thinks of him as a cool professor who travels around and helps people.

>with McCoy and Davison both too low
Davison is mid-ranked, which is probably where he belongs. I like 5's personality, but even in the audio adventures, he doesn't seem to have real chemistry with anybody. Not that he's bad or anything, but there's no real sizzle. He's sort of a reverse Pertwee. I've never been very fond of 3's personality, but he has great chemistry with both the Brig and the Master.

>>81975495
>I had a nice, neat, ordered list before Capaldi.
It's hard for me to properly rate 12 because I dislike the show's direction enough that I've stopped watching it (until we have a new showrunner, at least). I mean, I've seen more than a season of him, so it's not like I have nothing to go on, but it's hard to separate him from the stories he's in. I wouldn't give 12 particularly high marks, but beyond that, I can't properly say.

One take they've never really done is for the Doctor to be so disturbed about the big stuff like destroying Skaro or killing (as far as he knew) the last of the Ice Warriors that he doesn't even think about the more personal deaths like Shockeye or Solomon. That's believable, but it's inhuman, but it's something that's hard to argue against.

Still, I don't know how easily they can make any version of this work without either skating by it in a way that leaves a bad taste, or turning it into that crappy Green Arrow show.

The novels (and sometimes audios) dealt with it, but they had a lot more ways they could get away with it (including not being afraid to leave a bad taste in the reader's mouth).

But if the writers really think they can bring this up and handle it well, I'll wait and see before judging it.

Word. Tennant is one of the three best Doctors (along with Troughton and Tom Baker).

>>81975753
>Only plebians who have never listened to any BF rate Colin that low.
The audio stuff is kind of a different thing. That's not to dismiss it (and I could give a shit what "canon" is, especially in the universe as wacky as Doctor Who), but it's a different medium, and the 6th Doctor in particular is significantly different (well... better). I agree that Colin Baker is really good in the Big Finish stuff, but most people have never even been exposed to it. So at most, I'd let the Big Finish stuff nudge my rating, and I'm more likely to just ignore it except to put an asterisk by his name.

I know I said I have a hard time ranking Capaldi, but there's no way he should be anywhere near that high up. Also McCoy's Doctor sucks dick.

That's wrong though. He only has 4 shit stories, and few Doctors have a better record.

There's no way Remembrance, Greatest Show, or Happiness Patrol can possibly be considered a 25th anniversary celebration of a show that included Timelash, The King' Demons, The Creature from the Pit, The Curse of Peladon, The Space Pirates, and The Celestial Toymaker.

But Silver Nemesis, that's a story that captures the unpredictable mishmash of quality, cheese, and padding that were the first 25 years of Doctor Who.

Aside from the fact that I hate that era of Doctor Who, I don't think he has the charisma to pull off the role. He seems so forced to me. I'm not a fan of his Big Finish stuff either.

>Basically all his stories after Remembrance are GOAT bar Silver Nemesis
Literally the next story after Remembrance is The Happiness Patrol, which is so terrible, it was the nail in the coffin of my classic Who watching. I gave up on the show and it wasn't until almost two decades later that I went back and watched everything. But I don't think there's a single 7th Doctor serial that I unreservedly like. I'm somewhat mystified by the fact that most people don't seem to agree that the show was trash by this point.

Who are you worried about offending? I don't think Nick Briggs is on /who/ this early in the morning.

Anyway, Jubilee is brilliant, and there are other Dalek stories that are not bad. But the one thing they all have in common is that they're not what you'd normally think of as Dalek stories.

Coral and Ladbrokes both suspended bidding again on Friday, and Betfair didn't reopen their main betting, only their secondary.

And that's had Miranda Hart, Vicky McClure, Paul McGann, and a bunch of other people higher than they were in the real betting for a long time now, mainly because people are betting there's a chance they'll rise from 99:1 to 20:1 on the main bookies. Which is pretty much meaningless.

At least that has the benefit of getting to hear Hurt's voice. If I had to listen to generic dalek dialogue and plots, I'd want it to be with him

Seriously though. Even if the story is well-written, there's just something so boring about listening to the daleks. And I know there's so many more I'm going to have to endure because Briggs is obsessed with them for some reason.

>>81986068
Jubilee is great, I've heard that one and will be listening to it again. But as you say, it's a bit of an exception.

I think I also don't really enjoy 8's audios, so far at least. I'm not sure what it is, Mcgann's a great guy and all but there's nothing particularly exciting or special about hearing his Doctor, for me. Chimes, obviously, is a fantastic audio but I'm not a fan of this solid block of main range 8 at the moment. Want to hear the others.

I can only speak for myself, but I'm perfectly okay with a female Doctor, as long as she's well executed and it doesn't have undertones of "look! she's a woman!" all the time.

>No offence, but is there anything more boring than a Dalek audio?
I've never been that fond of Daleks, period. They're supposed to be really clever, but they roll around with plunger hands repeating "ex-ter-min-ate!" like some idiot dog yapping at passing cars. They worked pretty well in their first appearance, and their design is kind of cool (as long as you don't think about the stupid parts), but even as a kid, I found them disappointing.

Yeah, I'm never excited for their episodes and I can't think of a single time a dalek reveal has made me more invested in a story, rather than less.
>>
>>81986223
I find it interesting how one of the most iconic things from Doctor Who experienced such a divergent evolution from the show's core.

Most of Doctor Who is about knowing your enemy. By the time Doctor knows one enemy, the story is effectively over, either he discovers an easy way to kill it or he discovers that it's not an enemy at all.

Then Daleks roll in, with no mistique, no motive beside war and no sensible way to defeat them but naked violence. There are a few stories that do different things with them, like Dalek and Into the Dalek from NuWho, and I can't actually name any other.

Sort of like how they introduced a black Vulcan in Voyager and never once commented on his skin tone. So there's at least one thing that show did right.
>>
I'm so interested in the series arc. Not just what's in the vault but why Nardole and the Doctor are seemingly stuck together. Their scenes are funny but there's definitely a tension between them.

Have you listened to all of the audios solid up to Time of the Daleks?

Honestly, as a big fan of Eight and Charley, if you didn't like Storm Warning, Stones of Venice, or Seasons of Fear, they're probably aren't going to grow on you. So… either skip and only listen to the ones you expect to like, or go off and try Eight with Mary or Lucie instead. (You can always come back to Charley later.)
