Honest question. Is there actually supposed to be occult/satanic references/influences in this show, or is that just nerds reading too much into it.

Not in terms of its own story or mythology, (I've seen it), I mean hidden or subliminal references to real world occult beliefs or practices. Someone in another thread a while back made an oblique reference but I don't know it its just bullshitting.

The book recently released has a ton of that. It talks about Scientology and Aleister Crowley, among other things. I don't know about references in the show itself though.

Short answer no
Long answer Lynch took a lot of time in adding elements that are inherently disturbing and designed to instill the viewer with a sense of dread and overwhelming evil. It isn't strictly Satanic but it does have similarities to what some religions would consider Satanic
