God, this explains many things. I've always suspected as much, growing up, but didn't think it was backed up by research.

As a consequence of not being socially popular, I learned to mask pain and loneliness through humor, which people appreciate. It didn't really help to elevate my social status though, and I was always "that guy". It hurts, man.
