Are you ready for James Cameron to save cinemas again in the 2020's?

Source:
http://comicbook.com/movies/2017/04/22/avatar-sequel-dates/

>James Cameron’s Avatar sequels have finally been given official release dates on 20th Century Fox’s schedule.

>Avatar 2 is now scheduled for release on Dec. 18, 2020. Avatar 3 will follow almost exactly one year later, releasing on Dec. 17, 2021. There will be a three-year hiatus leading up to the release of Avatar 4 on Dec. 20, 2024. Avatar 5 will arrive on Dec. 19, 2025.

I would have been thrilled if it came out three years ago.
I don't care about it now, and I won't care about it when it comes out. I won't even be able to watch it any more, as I threw out my 3DTV months ago. Sam Worthington Tries to Collect a Paycheck won't matter for US audiences who went to high school when the first came out, and ten fucking years of pre-production is too heavy for China to carry.

James wants to FUCK that cat

He really, really wants to fuck that cat. What the public wants or what would "advance film" is irrelevant to him. Making more material about his nine foot tall blue skinned tribal cat waifu with a USB ponytail because in his mind that is literally the sexiest, most appealing, most seductive entity that could ever exist and make all human women look like worthless shit in comparison, that is his passion now.

Do you really want to deny him his passion?

was that Avatar withdrawal thing that was claimed right after the movie came out a joke or a deliberate lie made up by the studio? You know what I mean the claim that there was some neckbeards that were so entrenched by the story, location, and characters that they felt empty after it was over?
>>
>>81918048
they're not, they're playing new roles in unrelated cgi fests under the avatar umbrella
>>
>>81918420

No anon, you're right. Of course you are. It's going to be an entirely new cast and it'll be set on Mars despite all the evidence to the contrary.
>>
>>81916180
Right, besides most of its box office take was foreign, it was Dances with Wolves, the non american version.
>>
How does Jim get away with this?

Surely part of the Disney deal of having Avatar in their park included the quick release of Avatar 2?
>>
>>81918523
didn't say that. my prediction is that the four sequels will end up being narratively unrelated movies with heavy use of cgi. they can easily re-use actors for that

but yeah all the evidence is against me. weaver and lang have had extremely vague interviews saying they are coming back in some form despite their characters being dead. I don't see how that contradicts what I said

I know the reason why they've been pushing the sequels back so much so often.

>Franchise creator James Cameron — who has stayed on the sidelines since directing the first two classic films — is the beneficiary of changes in copyright law. Basically North American rights to the franchise revert back to him in 2019. That is because the copyright reversion now takes place after 35 years, and The Terminator was made in 1984.

He is planning to insert the Terminator universe into the Avatar universe. The humans will return with an actual army, powerful weapons, and Terminators. Screencap this.

Did Disney do something to knock Cameron out of the way of their capeshit and SW plans?

Me thinks so.

And there is such a thing as making an audience wait too long, and because of that they will NOT make the kind of money the first one did.

Avatar 2 - The Earth's military lands on Pandora with high-tech war machinery and an army of cybernetic soldiers aka Terminators. It's a brutal war and the Na'vi are massacred. They push the Na'Vi to the brink of surrender and in their desperation the Na'Vi decide to use an ancient threat locked away by their ancestors. The final scene of Avatar 2 would be them breaking into an ancient chamber, the floor covered in eggs, camera does a slow pan up to reveal an Alien Queen. She roars. Cut to black.

>Avatar 3
>Alien facehuggers attach themselves to Pandora lifeforms and we get to see completely new Aliens that are bigger and deadlier
>new Aliens massacre everything they find, including the Na'vi
>the humans with the help of the Terminators manage to hold them back but their position changed from an offensive one to a defensive one
>the Alien numbers grow out of control and the Na'vi can't defend against them any longer
>humans are close to going down as well
>humans and Na'vi team up
>a huge war devours the planet
>the final shot will be outside the orbit of Pandora
>a spaceship approaches but it doesn't look like something humans would build
>it becomes invisible
>fade to black

>Avatar 4
>$4billion box office

>Avatar 5
>amount of cash creates a singularity that crashes all stock markets with no survivors
>>
>>81919477
>they will NOT make the kind of money the first one did

I respect Cameron for taking his time in order to guarantee the best possible result. He could have shat out the sequels 2011, 2013, 2015 etc but he invested so much time and care and thoughts and creativity into this because he wants the Avatar universe to be great. To be fantastic. He is planning and creating everything. He is creating a world, alien animals, characters, plot lines, story arcs, tech, vehicles and aircraft, sci-fi stuff, weapons, action scenes. Of course I'm annoyed by the delays and don't want to wait but I also know it'll be worth it.

They were pushed back because Jim wants total control over the movies. He already knows how to do pretty much any filmmaking job except music. So he took out James Horner and used this time to get a music education. He will score the movies.
>>
>>81925050
Not him, but I think the events could of Rise could be condensed to about 30 minutes and used as flashbacks throughout Dawn. Might have actually been more better that way, giving glimpses of how the apes came to be as they were in Dawn. Even as a shorter prologue it would be fine.

To me, what's interesting about the series is how the society was built once they became intelligent, not the generic zombie movie accident that started it all. That was never what was important, and could have been left to the imaginationt. Don't think it's a terrible movie or anything, just unnecessary.

More Weaver is gross, more Lang is great. The movie deals with DNA, and cloning and shit, so probably some of that non-sense.

it used to be set for release this december
When episode 8 was delayed from the summer to the winter, there were a couple of months where both star wars and avatar were going to be released at the same time

There were countless comments about how based Jim doesn't back down even to the mouse.
Then avatar 2 was delayed and everyone pretended these conversations never happened

>hurr just let the humans have terminator robots, epic crossover for the win XDDD

It's shit and marvelizing things that don't have anything to do with each other.
>>
>>81928584
You don't need to include the entire Skynet backstory. Just those newly developed robots called Terminators. People wanna see those iconic metal endoskeletons and wanna hear them being referred to as Terminators. Just imagine a dozen of them marching through the jungle of Pandora gunning down those huge animals while being attacked by them and getting hit by Navi arrows. Would be great.

Wow, Cameron's a lazy retard. I didn't think he was going to delay this beyond Dec 2019
>>
>>81928584
It has nothing to do with rehashing the Terminator story, it would just be humans using combat droids with the same design as the t-800
>>
>>81928783
>lazy

It's being delayed because it's a ton of work to flesh out the world and the story for four movies. It's not like he wants more time to lie on his sofa doing nothing you fucking retard.
>>
>>81928876
I think he does want more time for exactly that kind of thing. He doesn't even seem to like making movies. He's released a grand total of two films since True Lies came out in 1994. I bet he will die of old age before we see Avatar 3

I have a friend who STILL considers it the best sci-fi movie of all time. He's incredibly susceptible to flashy CGI over actual substance. Games, movies, TV, if it LOOKS good, he thinks that means it IS good.

So, yeah. I can absolutely believe that Avatar withdrawal is a real thing.

Being an executive producer is hardly "making" a movie. It's a vanity title slapped on to boost his ego and sell tickets.
