There are at least 9 books written or planned. You think Syfy will allow a show to go on that long?

Don't even bother getting invested.

Even when it was SciFi, the longest shows ever ran for was 4 seasons.

Hope you faggots enjoy reading.

Sure, the protomolecule can do more or less as it likes. They sort of looked like they might be dying in vacuum, but then again at that point in the atmosphere of Venus you wouldn't be gasping for air, you'd be dissolving and/or bursting into flame/being crushed. So my take was that it WAS keeping them alive, and they were just thunderstruck

death of course is going to shortly follow, just not from exposure. RIP Janus, you were a cool guy.

How do craft dock on space stations? Don't be fooled, they might seem like incredibly complex situations, but I believe in reality when you have a set spin and a set trajectory, would it not be very simple for an advanced computer to figure out a correct speed and angle to dock easily?

Are you alright?
>>
>>81912405
Yeah its retarded, by this point in the books, venus is almost completely covered by the protomolecule
>>
>>81922716
If we're talking real world, docking on a spinning station is really hard. Because you can't just match your spin to theirs, you have to fly in a circle around the station to match its spin which requires expelling fuel.

The most efficient method would be to fly up to the station, have the station slow its rotation to match the ship using an electric powered wheel inside the station spin a wheel inside the station with an electric motor and the entire station would spin the opposite direction to conserve angular momentum, and then dock. That way you don't have to expel any fuel. You just need electrical power.
>>
>>81923091
just spin the docking tube
>>
>>81922109
Easy. elevators that wait for the "spokes" to line up with the elevator shafts.

i mean, that would work, if you had decent sideways thrust, the station could grab you well, and if you werent scared of fucking up your vector and crashing the station with no survivors

>tfw not on Netflix.

JUST
>>
>>81923168
That would conserve some power if your station has a spinning docking tube built in. Although spinning the tube would cause the rest of the station to spin the other way.

>>81923402
Might work if your structural integrity holds out. But if your clamp breaks then you're in trouble. Would be like trying to grab onto a passing train. Sure it would stop the train from having to stop, but can your arm take the impact?
>>
>>81923483
ooh, I like this one. If the station is like a big donut then the center of mass would be in the hole so you could match rotation there and dock safely.
>>
>>81923402
Just don't fuck it up. It takes one istake andd thousands die, perhaps the entire station.
>>
>>81917748
>I really really like this show.
>Everyone I try to show it to is bored to tears with it though.

well tell your friends and family that their shit taste is why we almost never have nice things on tv anymore. out of all the hundreds of shows that get put on tv, so many of them awful bullshit like reality shows or karaoke competitions or CSI: miami, is it really so much to ask we have a few good sci-fi shows? really?

i don't get how more people don't like them, does everyone just want to completely turn their brain off? that show on idiocracy "ow my balls" or whatever seriously isn't that far off from reality. That also means departing ships get "free" acceleration when they leave, at the cost of the stations angular momentum. The stress on the rails of ships hanging off them at the edge would be a concern though.
>>
>>81913785
people keep shitting on about "Game of Thrones in space"

it's going to be sucked dry if they can get themselves a GoT
>>
>>81922109

The gundam solution? The docking area is in a low/zero g area that isn't part of the centrifuge. People then progress to transition points that slowly increase the spin and you pre-anchor yourself/cargo to the 'ground' and proceed forward into the centrifuge. This allows your ships to not be subject to centrifugal gravity if it doesn't need. Still probably doesn't fix the full issue of transition.

Doesn't mutually assured destruction require the agents to be rational?

Belter politics is just 10 roid-fiends trying to out-terrorist each other - these guys would literally launch protomolecule at Earth because someone dared them to. Fred is the only one with any restraint and all the others hate him.

Their plight seems sympathetic at first, but the later actions only paint them in the same negative light as the rest of the system.
>>
>>81912698
Kino
>>
>>81934738
>Their plight
What plight anyway? I was a bit sympathetic when Earth was portrayed as full of rich people living off welfare that relies on resources from the Belt, but then in turns out that actually the welfare is shit and most of Earth lives in squalor. There's got to be 50 poor Earthers for every poor Belter.
>>
>>81933990

They are already making large changes from the book. Inb4 GoT level of deviation next season where it all goes further to shit. My biggest gripes so far have been the time scale (a similar issue in GoT), things are depicted to be hours - days apart instead of weeks - months.

Sure it's normally mentioned either through narration or directly by characters, but establishing that things should take a few weeks to travel and plan is often important for setting scale and giving some perspective to events that have knock-on effects.
>>
>>81933990
Ratings don't matter as much these days thanks to on-demand streaming.

The statistics on views +1 week after airdate on the streaming services give a more accurate picture.
Then there's Netflix's statistics from the rest of the world.
>>
>this one butthurt fanboy that responds to every negative criticism in a passive aggressive sarcastic way

>>81934914

Those poor people are the very bottom of the bottom. They've all chosen to go without the UN Basic Income in order to have some unspecified extra freedom in life - you can hear a drone saying something like "the amnesty for unregistered citizens has been extended, come get basic income now!" during that scene. The belters have no safety net like that.

Average Earther absolutely has a much better time than Belter, especially when you think about lifespan and shit.
>>
>>81935089
Unregistered citizens are people who were a second/third child whose parents raised in secret.
They're not people who have left the system, those are Earthers on basic.

Ever been to India? Take the socioeconomic situation, division of wealth, and population density of India and apply it to the entire world and you've got Earth in The Expanse.
>>
>>81935008

I listened to a podcast with the writers where they mentioned the drone's broadcast and said the point of it was to hint that these people were not on Basic.

When I said "Ratings", I don't mean star/number ratings as in quality.
I mean viewer ratings as in the amount of viewers who watched the show.
>>
>>81935687

We've already said, we don't know the viewer ratings since Netflix doesn't release that information.
Not to mention that ratings on streaming services are more complicated to compile than television broadcasts.

Nothing really happened with Arbhogast ship as far as I remember, the ring just flew from Venus to Pluto without touching anyone and at the start of Babylon's ashes there is a scene of some ship being desintegrated by something (I've only read first few chapters of the 6th book, I dunno what that was yet

Great, keep reading and enjoying. Television is a different experience however and we very seldom get sci-fi shows of this quality. Fucking Dark Matter is the best you can hope for lately and it's fine if you like that kind of thing, but it's more like Buffy the Vampire slayer than it is a serious sci fi show.

I want more quality sci-fi like this and the fucking suits need to know there's an appetite for it so it's not another decade before we get something good
