>>
>>81910101

Skyfall, to be honest. I can't enjoy old Bond flicks anymore. They're good dumb fun for about 90 minutes, but then they keep going on and on. That's really the problem with most Bond movies. They're too long and dumb.
>>
>>81910714
>Skyfall
That might be my favorite, too. I actually like Daniel Craig a lot as Bond.
>>
>>81910714
Stop watching Roger Moore's Bond
>>
>>81910797

I feel the same for most of Connery's films too. Most of them were a chore to sit through in my Bond marathon last year and that includes beloved classics like From Russia With Love and Goldfinger. I'd actually say You Only Live Twice was the best one from the 60s, followed by Dr. No.
>>
>>81910101
GoldenEye, anyone who lists the Craig films is either underage or an American who thinks James Bond is just the British version of Jason Bourne

Best story
Best villain
Best atmosphere (gritty post-Soviet)
Good soundtrack by Eric Serra who also composed for Léon, hence the soundtrack similarities.
I was actually rooting for the villain in this one, Silva from Skyfall was great too.
Ourumov, Boris Grishenko, Xenia, Trevelyan; all likeable characters.

GoldenEye is an amazing Bond film, my favourite (and yes, the N64 game is a masterpiece)

Don't really like the Brosnans but otherwise into most of them.

The thing about Bond is that there is a Bond film for every occasion and mood.
Sometimes you want a bit of cold war action and From Russia With Love, other times you want Moore quipping like a madman while acting with his eyebrows and a pigeon doing a double take.

They reflect changing tastes and fads (e.g., Live and Let Die is basically a blaxploitation film).

The most overlooked one is The Living Daylights which is an excellent film and maybe a bit ahead of its time Bond-wise.

Hated Spectre for the same reason I hate Sherlock and Dr Who etc.

I want Bond on a mission doing dangerous things and fucking hot women.
I want Sherlock solving fiendish cases and being clever.
I want Dr Who to appear somewhere, sort it all out and then bugger off.

I do not want to hear about the protagonist's family secrets, back story, weird relations, etc.
I want them to be about what they are supposed to be about.

PS. Bond, Sherlock and Dr Who are all British imperialist fantasies. They are all the lone colonial officer, far from home with only his inherent Britishness to protect him who brings civilisation to the clueless natives one way or another. This is only noted in Bond because SJWs are protective of the others for some reason.

I know he's meant to be flirty, but the scene with him using some gadget to zoom in and out on the receptionists tits is painful. And the plane coming out of the horse cart at the beginning actually had me in tears.
>>
>>81912345
>>81914421

Goldeneye is my favorite for those comfy 90s post-cold war feels and all that analog

Also this was the last film to use "old-school" sound effects, aka all the explosions and gunshots you've heard since Dr No. Tomorrow Never dies revamped the SFX with new digital versions and the film feel changed drastically
>>
>>81916421
While I can't argue against that I can't entirely agree either.

>>81916320

>>81916302
I'm actually partial towards QoS since its tone and smaller scale stakes along with a twist in the villain plan that actually fits the villain
sits with me. I was okay with Bond being James Bourne but Mendez put a stop to that with "cinematography" and "seriouz questions about spies guize".
>>
>>81916311
Drax is a goat villain

also all the women and outfits in that movie are hnnnggg/10
>>
>>81911522
Idk if anyone else had this problem with Goldeneye, but the last time I watched it I felt extremely detached from it. Like I was just watching a random series of events, rather than being drawn into any kind of story, Just felt very indifferent to everything happening. I think it may have lacked any sort of decent opening or introductory scene. Its like they just started a video diary half way through.

As for the quick cuts, I don't mind since action is not the reason I watch JB movies anyway and if you concentrate, you can make out what's happening quite clearly.

>Skyfall falls apart when they get back to London

arguably going to China is where the movie falls apart. A setting change to the entire other side of the world, and then back after 20 minutes.
There was no way this could have gone well.

putting the bad guy hideout in corsica or some such would have worked as far as explaining his ease of acquiring dozens of hired guns for the final action scene. There's the argument he was maintaining contact wirelessly, but then than raises the question of what sort of digital trail he left behind, therefore risking exposure the entire time it exists.
A european location would allow face-to-face meetings whenever needed.

China ruined Skyfall.

GoldenEye, Licence to Kill and the Living Daylights are the best ones in my opinion

Living Daylights had the perfect Cold War atmosphere, GoldenEye had the perfect post-Cold War atmosphere. Licence to Kill was brutal fun. I mean, people getting fed to sharks, shredded alive in cocaine shredders and tortured to death in a decompression chamber. Doesn't get much better than that!
>>

what was the plan with the bombmaker in Casino anyway?

Why did they need a guy from Madagascar to make a bomb that would be used in Miami? Why did they send him the security code too? Was he going to both be a bombmaker and a bomb planter?
Somehow that doesn't seem to work. It's like a character being an excellent gunsmith and an excellent marksman. And having this character live in Germany when his target is in Japan.

What was the scriptwriter thinking?

I don't get how The Man With The Golden Gun is rated so poorly. It has arguably the best Bond villain as Christopher Lee just nails it. And Moore seems like an underrated Bond as people don't like how he played a more reserved figure, but I think that seems more fitting for a secret agent.

If you don't think now is the best time for a Russian antagonist you are a fool. A damn fool.

The blurred lines between US and RUS collusion, the hyper-normalisation caused by the Russian geopolitical tom-foolery, the backdrop of a failed war in Afghanistan, Russia is the perfect enemy for a Bond movie right now.

>>
>>81917540

Because they're secret meeting got blown. Also I'm just saying the opera was well directed and had atmosphere unlike the entire rest of the movie, still nothing in this movie made sense
>>
>>81917540
Because that means the meeting is compromised and it's time to get out of there. It was a panic reaction while Mr.White being the cool motherfucker (who was insultingly wasted in Spectre) kept calm since he knew he has better chance not being spotted in the crowd.
>>
>>81917540
Not everyone is a fan of Tosca, obviously.
>>
>>81917532
Says the guy who is defending a movie supposedly about a card game, that acknowledges the card game is too dull for its intended audience. So instead of making the poker game have all the stakes, the stakes are instead presented short-term with the
>arrival of violent black men, left unexplained
>poisoning and near death of Bond, saved by the unexplained appearance of the treasury agent
>Bond comforting a traumatized woman, who then complains about his ego and won't let him buy back into the game, resolved by the unexplained introduction of the "brother from Langley" who somehow knew he was M16 but not vice versa

Casino Royale is pretty fucking pleb lad.

Even in the opening scene, they felt the need to splice a fight scene in because they knew the audience would lose attention if it was just two men talking in black and white.
>>
>>81917627
>>81917649
And that's the problem.

You'd think people who where having such a secret meeting would know that if they all suddenly stand up and leave, they've successfully marked themselves as a participant in the conversation.

So, why did they stand up?
You both have answered why the script had them stand up, but failed to answer why they as characters stood up.

the assassin uses his own name at one point while making fake documents. No one knows who he is, and using his real name just obfuscates his identity even further. If he's pulling names from graveyards, what's stopping every name from ("real" name included) from being lifted out of a graveyard?

The idea (and this worked until 2007) was to get a name from a graveyard of someone who had died young, make a request for birth and death certificates, then use the birth certificate on a passport application after some minor forgery (an ecclesiastic seal that could be faked with a "children's printing set")
A few days later an official passport would be sent back. I'm not making this up.

That's a thing that happens all the time in the real world. My sister died from SIDS when she was 9 months old but a woman was using her identity for years via this method. But randomly using your real name is in no way smart. All it does is needlessly put your real name in the list of names that will or at least could be checked by authorities once they get onto your trail.

Is craig going to do another one? I think I remember reading that if he said no, Christoph Waltz wasn't coming back.

I think that would be a good thing to be honest, I think if they get rid of that hack Sam Mendes and got someone like Michael Fasbender a good voice coach, he could make for a good debonair Bond.

Michael has better acting ability than all previous bonds, but that would be fucking useless if they continue down the rough and gritty route. Let Bond ease into his more cunning and stylish phase with the next bonds, stop using action as a crutch and give us an interesting thriller. Just my 2 cents.

Licence to Kill, Bond feeding a dude to a shark. Pulling a guy into a shredder and best of all, framing some poor guy into him getting tortured and brutally murdered in that pressure chamber.

I really wish The Living Daylight's villains weren't so forgettable because it's so good otherwise. The blond henchman was cool though.
