>At this point, Moffat NuWho has been going on long enough, why not plunder it the same way?
Absolutely, especially considering S9 seemed the zenith of his own questions and ideas regarding the show and the charcacter, the peak of his increasingly meta and very conceptual stuff that had been building since he took charge really. Where else to go from there, but inward? Or as far back as possible and untangle Classic Who issues, ifSusan and/or 1 really are coming back.
Reminder this looks pretty fun

Yeah it's a shame :/ DW just isn't flush with money like it was in the old days. I remember when we had 3 Doctor Who shows on, Confidential as well, Totally Doctor Who, Torchwood Declassified...I much prefer Moffat as a showrunner, but there was something magical about the RTD days, and the way the show was perceived then

Don't worry, it's only 54 years, not 70, and there's only 35 actual seasons within those 54 years.
But the current series was designed to be a good place to start. The first episode (S10E01) just aired a week ago, and the second one is only hours away.
If you want more than that, series 5 was also a good starting place.
>>81906670

>black people don't watch Doctor Who
M8, South Koreans, and literal Africans watch Doctor Who. But I actually get what you mean.
>>81906603
One more thing:
All of series 5 and later are dubbed in German, and some of the episodes before that. But, unless your English is terrible, don't watch the dubbed version. The dubbing is painfully wrong, and the Doctor is a character whose speech patterns are important. Watch him in English, and use subtitles if you need them.

Any black people here that don't like Hartnell cause he was a supposed racist?
I just watched the season 10 premiere and I thought it was awful. Why are you all so happy?
>>81906599
Well, if he's not careful, that way lies the worst excesses of the EDA novels (and even some of the best successes of the EDA novels would not translate to TV).
But yeah, I don't think that'll be a problem. His past failures (despite what the media consensus sometimes says) have not been getting too conceptual in his writing, but in failing as a manager (especially of his most important employee, himself), and I don't think that's going to happen this time.

It was decent, and I'm sure it gets better.
I've always been iffy about Romana being Lord President (when did that idea start?), because I think it makes Gallifrey feel small, but that's just a silly thing of mine and it's more entertaining to listen to characters we know than if they were all randoms. Hearing Brax is cool too. I've been interested in his character for quite some time, and I've only ever encountered him in one novel, so it's neat having him as a regular character. And having two K9's was actually a bit funny. Plus Leela's one of my favourite companions.

Can brown people answer?
I took a class with Waris Hussein, and got the opportunity to talk to him about Hartnell. At least according to Hussein, Hartnell did have prejudices, but he didn't hate people because of them, and didn't refuse to give them a chance because of them. Paraphrasing:
>Any irrational doubts he may have had about whether a Paki could direct him were overwhelmed by the entirely rational doubts about whether a young and inexperienced man could direct him. And once I proved myself capable, he always treated me with respect.
We could argue about whether that makes him not a racist, or not as bad as other racists, or as good as you could expect for his times, or still responsible for his times, or whatever.
But it would be stupid to hate him for it.

>>81907004
>I've always been iffy about Romana being Lord President (when did that idea start?)
Basically, Paul Cornell.
It was part of his fan fiction back in the 80s. Or maybe Topping's or one of the others, but that group.
In the NAs, Terrance Dicks brought Romana back from E-Space in Blood Harvest. And Paul Cornell was commissioned to write the first Missing Adventure, Goth Opera, as a sequel to that novel. So he inserted the Romana Presidency from his fan fiction days. He and other Virgin writers gradually filled in the backstory from there.

Okay, let me clarify this for you. Yes, I know there are black people who watch Doctor Who. It. Is. A. Joke.
https://www.bigfinish.com/news/v/torchwood---coming-in-august
It's interesting how the Torchwood range is intermixing original characters as the leads in audios now, amongst the returning cast audios. I thought they'd stick to B-list and C-list characters like Yvonne and PC Andy for longer, before going to outright original characters as leads.
The writing on the range is strong enough that I don't really mind, but I wonder about the incentive - ease of scheduling, so they can pump them out quicker without having to manage the trickier schedules of the OG actors? The writers wanting to stretch a bit more with new characters? Something else?

You do realise you don't get to decide how people react to the dumb shit you say, right? Just like Moffat can't magically make everyone react to his episodes how he'd like, you can't magically make people take your bizarre remarks as not racist. Let it go and stop being so thin-skinned about people being annoyed by you.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9jZSxtvbT6I
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1JpbE_sVabI
I love Capaldi's theme but it works best in big epic moments, it feels wasted in just normal chase scenes like this. Maybe it makes more sense in the context of the episode, but I kinda feel like they're overusing A Good Man a bit now, and it's giving me flashbacks to the S6 and S7 days of them using I Am The Doctor wayyy too much.

I actually think looms were only an interesting idea once Cornell, Parkin, and Miles took them out of Marc Platt's hands and started using them in different ways, even if (or maybe because) they all contradicted each other.
But I don't see why anyone thinks looms are central, or even relevant, to anyone's canon debate. I mean, Invasion of Time contradicts Deadly Assassin a lot more than Time's Crucible contradicts either of them.

The Doctor Forever was really good but not as catchy as IatD or aGM, so it's kind of an understandable choice. Anyway shoving a recognizable main theme everywhere is kind of Moffat's thing, even in Sherlock or other stuff. It's also one of the reasons why I think he's a very good writer that shouldn't write or run a show too long as he burns up very quickly.

^Nice rendition from series 4.
I wonder what direction Murray will go in for 13, if he's still around. The little bit of music at the end of TTOTD didn't really indicate the direction he took for Capaldi so I wouldn't take any bits of incidental music too seriously, until Chibnall's era actually starts proper.

I like Akhaten, though it's a pretty flawed up. Love the music in it. I was really surprised they brought back that music from an ep not hugely popular for his regen. But it's a lovely piece of music and the "wake up" idea plays nicely into TTOTD. I thought it was great.
Also, 11's actual regen was handled so well that I'm really hype to see how 12's is handled.

Looms are all over CRaP. For example:
>Probably the most extreme ‘rite of passage’ among young Time Lords is the game commonly known as Eighth Man Bound. This game is played only by the neonates of the Time Lord Academy, students who have been imprinted with the genetic codes that allow them safe passage through the vortex, but who have not yet gone through the decades-long rituals of graduation. It is never played by Time Lords of those ‘newblood’ Houses for whom a change of body is as trivial as a change of fashion, and who come straight from the loom with a secondary heart. Eighth Man Bound was described by one House Kithriarch as ‘the most repulsive and irresponsible pastime it is possible to imagine’, and the game is said to claim the lives of up to fifteen Academy students each macrosemester.
He didn't mention them in his next few books, except for one offhand mention of the Time Lords cranking out new soldiers for the war.
In FP, he changed the struggle between oldblood and newblood houses to loomborn vs. wombborn, and drew parallels between the soldier-looming thing and the Sontaran clone pits.

The hero’s quest to find his perfect mate, his struggle to build a better world for his children, his willingness to give up his life for the next generation... but Time Lords do not reproduce organically, and all their young are born from the gene-looms.

They're safe today, but of course there's always the possibility they'll get raided and forced to cooperate in entrapping people or something.
Fortunately, you can create an account with a disposable email address. (And I assume you're using a VPN, unless you have an ISP that doesn't log anything. If not, you're more at risk from torrenting than from any torrent catalog site.)
If you don't want to do even that, you can (or at least could, I haven't checked recently) get enough information to build a magnet link from the description pages, without an account, and there's a userscript that does that for you. But it's not worth the hassle.

Why is it so strange? The TV movie drafts named the Doctor's father Ulysses. And it's pretty clear that Pip & Jane Baker got all their inspiration from his novel Ulysses, which starts off:
>Stately, plump Doctor came from the stairhead, bearing a bowl of pies on which a mirror and a knife lay crossed. A multi-colored dressinggown, ungirdled, was sustained gently behind him on the mild morning air. He held the bowl aloft and intoned:
>—Introibo ad altare crustum.
>Halted, he peered down the dark winding stairs and called out coarsely:
>—Come up, Mel! Come up, you fearful vegetarian!

Does river lose her memory in all of these? Because in Library she acts as if it was the first time the doctor had met her
>>81909306
They meet out of order m8. All the audios with her and a Doctor cover how the memory stuff works (some better than others, but still). In Doom Coalition, she uses a kind of psychic disguise so that she looks and sounds like someone else to 8.
The audios with River are set after Husbands for her, but pre-Library for the Doctors. From disguises, to mindwipes, to reality-bending, the audios always cover it so the stories work continuity-wise.

If we're not counting the McGann and Gareth Shadas too.
>>81910489
>introducing the white/black guardians for a whole new generation
>they can't just be old men anymore
Seriously? Why would a feminist redo of Doctor Who want him to be anything but an old white man?
The White Guardian is a deconstruction of the Judeo-Christian God. He's a god of order, not good. He can't be trusted. He's not so much omnipotent as impotent. He looks ridiculous, even before he starts wearing a bird for a hat. Making him anything but an old white man completely destroys all of that.

>>81910690
The Tom Baker linking video is fun, but the story really doesn't come through very well, because there's just too much missing.
Ian Levine did a pretty good job with re-mounting the audio, but the animation is truly painful. And not in the way most of the missing episode animations are; there's a bunch of different animators who have radically different styles spliced together at random, and some of them are so incompetent that they can't even handle such basic perspective tasks as making the Doctor's arm stay the same length when he unbends it.
Maybe just minimizing the window and listening to the Ian Levine version would work, but I haven't tried that (and, even if I had, it might work for me just because I've gone through all the other versions enough times that I know the story…).

I should say that by "pretty good" I don't mean everyone is pretty good, I mean almost everyone is excellent, but the Doctor is played by a guy who gets Tom's voice perfectly, but his excessive S17 personality not at all. Which might ruin the whole thing for you.
