Yes, they are extremely popular. I believe normies get them so they have physical proof that they are "geeky" or "nerdy".

I actually subscribe to one of these services from j-list, it's a fingerbox crate. It's actually pretty neat: they ship different fingerboxes from all over the world. They're usually too small but the materials are rather nice, and for $60 a month you can't really beat that price.

I don't have it saved sadly, but someone once posted a screenshot a youtuber receiving an offer from some off-brand lootcrate ripoff to get $1000 per opening video to advertise their box, plus another $8 for every person that buys a subscriptions off their promo code.

And that's one of the off brand scamboxes. I imagine lootcrate itself pays even better.

Moral of the story, they're faking it. And I frankly can't blame them. Making 12 of these videos per year will get you as much as a part-time job, and the videos require zero effort to make. I'd probably sell my dignity too for that much easy money.

They are a random box of shit they ship you every month for a set price. Half the time they have "exclusive" Funko Pop figures as their supposed big ticket item.

Though I think the QFX, as in that pic, are far far better than Funko Pops. And, full disclosure, not just because I know someone who knows the artist who does them. They are just better designed and thought out caricatures of characters.

And even then I think I only ever got this one as I am not big on chibi static figures.

I subscribed for almost a year in 2015. I enjoyed them, but I kinda felt the ratio between good stuff and literal garbage each month was skewed towards the garbarge. So I felt I didnt get my money's worth.
I dont know if it was them increasing the rate of filler shit, or I just had enough crap that i didnt know what to do with.
Regardless i didnt feel the wait between models and figures that were actually worth something was worth it.
I havent regretted it since.

Btw, yes their is a HUGE profit to be made from boxes like this, like real huge.

>>
>>81909703
>no publicity is bad publicity

This is untrue in this case. The people who buy this crap are incredibly weak minded, if they see their favorite youtuber (or /tv/ thread) calling them out for their stupidity and fakeness they'll be shamed into stop buying these products. You can tell just from this thread that real human beans have actually thought it was a good idea to buy these, anyone who teaches these people otherwise is a good thing.
>>
Was subscribed for like a year, and for 20$ I'd say you get your money's worth. Each crate has at least 1 decent item and a high quality T-shirt (sometimes they are even subtle enough to wear), and I can't think of a crate that was completely junk.
Where they fall is the filler garbage that's honestly too shit to be sold outside of packs in 1$ stores.
Overall I wouldn't say they are worth 50$, but for 20$ it's worth it for the surprise factor, the T-shirt, the decent item, and the chance for getting something interesting like that d20 ice cube.

Whenever I see something like this,I feel enormous envy because I wasn't the one who first came up with this shit. I hate the geeky culture but selling this is like printing money. You literally double your profit per box and they probably sell thousands of them. Like some anon in this thread said, the boxes are barely worth 10 dollars, you strike a deal with a store which has too much crap that doesn't sell and you are golden.

The idea of it is kind of interesting. You're essentially paying a subscription to have a little box of presents "gifted" to you every month. Also kind of sad in a way, like throwing yourself a birthday party that only you show up to, but I dunno. The main thing, for me, is that none of the stuff that comes in those loot boxes looks remotely interesting. It just looks like overpriced baubles and junk that nobody bought on their own free will.

Hmm. Maybe if I was interested in getting crap and someone else bought me the subscription, I'd appreciate it.

They're popular because it's fun to get a box of stuff every month except that it's usually filled with dog shit. The poor quality of items are given a pass because the subscription is relatively inexpensive so people won't miss their 20 dollars. The only thing in these boxes that make the value worth it are the tshirts, but it's always some stupid pop culture crossover dude lmao what if we combined Zelda with the walking dead. But the shirts are only worth it if you still dress like a teenager and wear graphic tees. Let's be honest though, if you're subscribed to one of these things, you probably do still dress like one.

I buy snack boxes from Japan every month or so, they're 15 bucks for what is around 7 dollars in food, but hey, international shipping and they've got to make a bit of profit.

In the couple of weeks it takes to arrive, I forget half the stuff that was in there, and most of it is new to me anyway. I can't imagine what possesses people to buy a box filled with plastic junk they'll throw away or put in a drawer, and it being a "surprise" isn't a good thing.

This. People collect all kinds of weird shit. The real issue with these boxes is the low quality of the collectable. Like the vase (china, glass, crystal or other old trinkets/toys) the item has no practical use if the owner wants eventually sell it, they become pure display items. I just fail to see these boxes ever containing items that could fall into the high quality and rarity categories though, especially at $20-50 with expected 100% minimum mark up.

I'm sure your parents/grand parents have a cupboard of old heirlooms they basically keep for display and won't ever use practically, you might be able to sell some, but for the most part they are far from unique.
