Is this underrated kino?

Yes. I don't think it deserved to bomb as hard as it did.

Also, for years I thought it was just a remake of The Seven Samurai with vikings. It wasn't until recently that I learned that it was just a retelling of Beowulf.

Well admittedly, before I last saw it (which was maybe 4 or 5 months ago), I hadn't seen it in maybe 14 years. At that point I don't think I had heard of Beowulf then. Then 14 years go by with me not really thinking about it even when I had learned of Beowulf.

Yes, it is. I remember seeing this in theaters and the Wendol scaring the absolute shit out of me. Maybe it was just me, but it also had this sense of isolation throughout, from traveling in the caravan and even when they reached the north, it felt like that village was so far removed from the rest of the world, it really added a lot of tension.

Solid fucking movie.
