I didn't care much for Laura after the series but holy fuck did the movie change that. It's genius in how it reveals the real tragedy that lies beneath the quirky TV world full of lovable fun characters.

The part where she goes to the Roadhouse and Questions in a World of Blue is playing, it's this brief beautiful moment before she sits down with those guys and says "So you wanna fuck the homecoming queen?" and it's clear just how horribly damaged she's been by the whole thing, I fucking cried.

I would rewatch that scene and cry, I revisited Fire Walk With Me scenes almost every day for weeks after I saw it, just to see those scenes that hurt the most, I don't know why but it really did have such an impact on me, I never have felt that much for a protagonist. I probably would have been destroyed if the movie had't have had that tinge of optimism at the end, seeing Laura smile as Cooper comforted her.

I just saw the Missing Pieces recently and holy shit some of the stuff in there was pure gold. The extra scenes with Jeffries were amazing and the Extended Convenience Store scene was probably the scariest moment in all of Twin Peaks. The scene with Pete in there was great too. I can see why a lot of it was cut but good chunks of it would have improved the movie.
Also I saw it after reading the shooting script and was disappointed to see that the scene with Ben Horne wasn't filmed because it was probably my favorite from the script that wasn't in the film.

Never saw Lost Highway. So far I've seen Eraserhead, Elephant Man, Fire Walk with Me and Blue Velvet. I think Blue Velvet was the weakest of them. Didn't go weird enough for me personally but even Lynch's worst is still better than most people's best. Dennis Hopper was definitely the highlight of it.

That's the thing, for me. It's more a tragedy than it is a horror, since you know exactly what's going to happen.

As I was watching it the first time I wasn't sure about how the way it blurs the BOB/Leland divide (ie. it's Ray Wise who does a lot of the killing and seedy shit, not Frank Silva - particularly the part where he's on the phone to Theresa about her ad), but I think that's what makes it work so well.

You open with that TV screen being smashed, and it's like 'that's the artifice of sanitised TV gone, here's the real horror of Laura's situation.'

There's that one line in the show where Coop's explaining what happened with the possession, and someone else calls bullshit, and Coop's response is, "Well, is it easier to believe a man would rape and murder his own daughter?" which sways them.

The fact of the matter is that it would actually be more comforting to be able to put it down to some demonic possession, and not address the fact that anybody the potential to be a Leland Palmer. It's more horrifying that Lelands exist than it would be for a BOB.

I was actually very upset with the portrayal of Leland in Episodes 8 and 9 after the reveal. I thought they removed responsibility by distancing those acts from Leland himself and turning him into a cartoonish evil caricature, that's how he acted in those episodes.

I was very unhappy with that so when I came to watching the movie, seeing Leland in that light was extremely uncomfortable, because you really do want to love the guy (and Ray Wise) after watching the show but after the brutal reveal that Lynch directed where he murders Maddy, this is the Leland Palmer we needed to be exposed to, be faced with the man that did this.

I want to see how Lynch deals with the following:

- Having nearly the entire cast make a comeback; it seems pretty nonsensical that many of these people would be anything other than retirees and coupled with that magazine shoot where they all had caked-on, high-contrast makeup it leads me to believe that Lynch will mostly use them as a grotesque backdrop. We already know that Seyfried and Sarsgaard will carry the show.

- In FWWM, Lynch showed how he truly envisioned TP to be and how much was he kept back by network honchos. It was always supposed to be much more raw, much more sexual and that could not be done in 90s television. However it can definitely be done now.

- Lynch could not care less about the plot (Lodge and other red herrings thrown to plebs) but Frost is someone who has to support his whole place in the TP structure through reliance on these 'mythos' elements and unfortunately, as these threads show, most of you plebs also care deeply about the non sequitur stuff. I wonder how much will this hamper the show.

I watched it in the fall first time I went through the series and it was perfect. Overcast skies, cool weather and rain just like in the show.
