You've watched some cool movies. Others may call what you like entry tier, but some of the movies you listed are really solid. I know sometimes people don't like entry tier movies because they've been talked about to death. So just enjoy what you like and watch more movies.
>>
>>81879627
Do you prefer Apocalypse Now Redux or the original movie? Good list anyway, although I find Children of Men overrated

Apocalypse: Ok
Blade Runner: Boring
2001: Ok
Nemo: Ok
Pan: Mediocre
Children of Men: Sucks
Ghost in the Shell: Haven't watched
Spirited Away: Haven't watched
Kill Bill: Overrated

Am I doing this right?
>>
>>81880568
You're supposed to put your favorite scenes from the film.

How do you find Blade Runner boring when you like Godfather? Both are slow burners.

How can you not know Lynch at least?

Not him.

I watched Lost Highway a while back and really liked it, although the ending was pretty jarring.

Which of his movies are better?
>>
>>81881232
idk man. I guess i'm pretty illiterate when it comes to kinos.
>>
>>81881301
Eraserhead is his MO, but if you've seen Twin Peaks, you should definitely check Fire Walk WIth Me. MD is a good film, but vastly overrated and Blue Velvet is a solid thriller with a dash of Lynch.

>>
>>81881384
There's only like 2 seasons right? I guess I could commit to that.

I've also heard that Inland Empire is really good but far stranger than his other movies.

Lost Highway felt pretty straightforward mostly, and Muholand Drive seems the same as well.

Its good to see movies like his make Psychological Thrillers that really have a meaning and craft to them.
>>
>>81879627
nice /v/eddit taste, faggot
>>
>>81881474
Argue why they're bad without memes you fucking faggot.
>>
>>81881469
Haven't seen IE, but heard the same. Definitely check it out.
As for Twin Peaks, first season has 8 episodes and it's a neat surreal soap opera with Lynch's magic in it, season two, well the first 1/3 is on the same level, but the remaining two aren't and are quite hard to slog through. Last episode is great and all the suffering is worth it just for this episode alone.

>>
>>81882179
Good.

I'd recommend just reading a bit of film 101 too. It might sound pretentious, but if you just look up some University film syllabuses or reading lists you can find most of them available online from students.

Or you can buy them second hand for dirt cheap.

I learned a lot over the Summer and really enjoy movies more now.

Pan's Labyrinth is commie shite, 2001 lacks any humanity and Apocalypse Now equates American military intervention in Vietnam and the men who died there with the brutal colonial era of Conrad's Heart of Darkness. Batman v Superman has excellent themes concerning media, and the 3 main characters all represent a current philosophy of American thought. It's a fantastic film.

>>81886884
>Objectively good
Now I believe in Objective qualities concerning art. Whether one views these objective qualities as good or bad is up to the viewer I suppose. I do like Spirited Away so I won't shit on it, the other anime I haven't seen so can't comment. The qt3.14 is Nancy Allen from De Palma's Blow Out, highly recommend it, she was in a couple other films by him too, included Dressed to Kill which is also great.
>>
>>81886811
To restate, because I'm calling them shit, doesn't mean I don't enjoy the movies. I love Blade Runner's and 2001's visuals.
>>

I put that on mine.

I wouldn't want to put more than on on I think, but Singing in the Rain is extremely comfy. Every song is great, all the stars are charismatic, the lead actress is total waifu material, the story is light and lean, and it kind of has that commentary on film itself.

>>81887013
The thing is that everyone on /tv/ general polarizes to get (you)s. In reality most movies are average or below average. From 4-6/10

So i think yours is good, and OPs is good. All that matters with these lists is generally how accessible the movies are. The simpler and more pleb they are the less the person has in experience usually.

>2001 lacks humanity
I mean isn't that the point of a post-modernist themed movie?
>>
>>81887013
Your right about the first two but apocalypse now is about so much more than drawing comparisons to imperialist it transcends the setting to look at the darkness in man.

Anyone else seen this?

I actually think its really really underrated. I gave it a 8/10. Maybe not quite as "great" as There Will be Blood, the Master, or Boogie Nights but its very different.

The movie is classical hollywood romance, has good drama, and is really short for a PTA movie. I actually think its one of his best. It'd be hard to argue, but I think its at LEAST 3rd in his filmography.

I've seen it, and actually I think it'f superior to TWBB and Boogie Nights, haven't seen The Master though.

I think that for a Hollywood film that stars Sandler, it's very well made, and has a very powerful visual style, using color to set tones like in In The Mood for Love, but also has a very interesting story, nice composition throughout and Barry's character was very relatable to me at least.

I think PTA is massively overrated, by the way.

Does this mean I must love it? If the point of a movie is to be bad, must I applaud it for achieving it's goal?

>>81887105
Aye, but is man always dark, is there always a hidden depravity beneath the surface, or do truly good men exist? There are great judgments that men pass in their films. Think of the scene in The Master where PSH is talking about how man is animal, but can transcend it, while Joaquin Phoenix scribbles about "fucking". The contrast is clearly intentional. Film makers wish to shape minds, and they should be judged for it.

>>81887082
> In reality most movies are average or below average. From 4-6/10
Please refrain from this type of judgment, there is much more to film than arbitrarily assigned numerals.

Yeah, he has potential, but he seems to be stuck in that rut so many comedic actors get into, where any attempts to branch out are met with critical or box office failure.

Same.

His other movies aren't exactly oscar-bait since I don't find them pretentious, but they're "heavy" y'know?

I thought Punch Drunk Love was a near-perfectly executed movie for what it was trying to do. The use of color and music was really interesting among other things. Just a simple straight forward movie.

And its not often you actually get to see a Romance that features two middle aged average looking people. Made it feel really sincere.

PTA is Massively overrated I would probably agree, but only because people say he's GOAT. He really is good imo, but there are certainly a number of better directors.

>>81887501
I assess film on a lot of different levels, but the reality of wide-release movies is that the majority are just average or slightly above or below.

There's only a couple dozen movies every year that really stand out.

>>
>>
>>81889851
I'll try to be brief like you asked.
Everything comes from something, so why would the universe as a whole be any different? Where does the universe originate from? The Big Bang proves I wasn't always just around. The only logical answer had to be something considered illogical, something supernatural. A provider that wasn't provided. However that in itself doesn't prove the existence of the Christian God.
I looked at Christianity as a book to start an objectively great civilization and ultimately decided that the religion that creates the greatest society's is the right one.
What first got me was seeing how both sides had evidence to prove their claims and that the belief ultimately fell to wether or not you wanted to believe or not. Sorry it's long I tried to keep it brief

It says right in the Bible that he is free of Human binds yet can feel disappointment? Well certainly if he's real you could go to a random island that has never been touched by missionaries and find people who've heard of him there right? If everyone comes from Adam and Eve they've certainly heard of him right? Oh and God would probably be punishing us right now because we've been to space and that's a big nono according to the tower of babel. Hmm doesn't seem like much is happening. But he just dismisses it as illogical despite God being not more illogical. And then he just appeals to Muh Einstein.

>Evolution is mindless (Aka natural)
>Therefore any intelligence is meaningless because its the product of mindlessness

That makes no fuckign sense m8. If humans develop the evolutionary advantage of intelligence then it only stands to reason that this quality helped it survive: being able to assess and judge ACCURATELY is essential to that trait being useful for survival. If human babies developed their huge brains (what makes childbirth so dangerous) but DIDNT have any true ability to assess, judge, and rationalize then it would be a horrible evolutionary trait.

And anyways given that there is proof of evolution, his own beliefs would be just as subject to these alleged problems as naturalism/atheism/etc.

>Muh god designed brain of environment
How is that any different than our biology adapting to our environment? Both explain human's ability to accurately interact with reality and percieve things.

oh yeah I'm sure that two of the biggest events in the entire Bible being nearly identical to the biggest literature prior to it is just a complete coincidence. I'm sure the fact that they both take place around the same area is also a coincidence. You know, two stories about a god telling a man to build a boat and putting all living beings on it then causing a giant flood to cleanse the world are totally different. Oh no but one flood took only a little while and the other took 40 days! Such a huge difference, they must be different stories!

I mostly like based 70's.

Maybe because I DIDN'T watch them you fucking retard, in fact I only watched 2 Goddards movies.

Le Polansky is a top tier director.

Yeah I missed great movies. Witch one? Those about black hiv positive nigger transexuals , superman 237649423, avenger 2374273, captain retardica 237243 , guardian of galaxy which is literally for fucking kids? le who who know which spinoff of le xman????

also I never said Polansky was a great director you retard, but the fact that a "patrician" (pleb) like you couldn't recognize all those entry level films is very funny to me

i think you legit have autism or something, kek, i've never watched a superhero film, and i typically avoid huge blockbusters, yet there have been great films released during this decade, of course a pleb like you, couldn't even name one

I am asking you one more time. How is someone supposed to recognize something that he never seen?

I was just being honest and asked for movies, got my answer and baited you all with bantz again (((htichcock))).

You are the one who first used name calling and made completely unlogical statements. You can of course change that if you answer my question above.

the fact that you've never seen those films is what makes you a pleb, like how can you claim "I am not a pleb" when you haven't watched some of the essential films/film movements that shaped cinema, and have no understanding of the theories and philosophies they brought to the art form, you're a pleb, it's simple as that
I bet that if i asked you how Godard helped shape the New Hollywood movement, which you seem to love, you couldn't answer me without googling, kek.

>got my answer and baited you all with bantz again (((htichcock))).

and now we know who is real autist here. You know, I have life outside this board you fucking faggot and your (((philosophy))) about movies.
I'd bet you wouldn't understand although Goddard and people around him are pretty good, they are all just the symptom of one big degeneracy. If you want to brag about philosophy rather read some Aquinas, Hegel, Spinoza, Leibniz , Aristotle or something similar patrician. Aspie.

Stalker is the most aesthetically pleasing movie i've ever seen, and also has one of the best ambiences ever created on film (though anything from Tarkovsky is). I'm not afraid to admit that i don't fully understand it, but i still love it.
