Which captain do you guys think will die first? Shatner is the obvious answer, I think maybe Brooks will go before him.

Pike.

Sometimes I forget that Shatner is older than Stewart, but then I remember that Stewart looked like he was in his 50s by the time he was 35.

Anyway, I'm gonna pull a wild card and say Kate Mulgrew will die of cancer.

Brooks won't die, he's too funky (and Rutgers Medical School will keep him alive).

>tfw rewatch Voyager all the time
How can such a poorly written show be so comfy? I love just putting some Voyager on and sitting back to relax, none of the other shows give me that feeling.
It does have some incredibly well written Trek episodes, though, mostly involving Tuvok

it's not trying hard to be edgy or different like DS9 which totally falls apart if you already know all the "twists" and events

>>81853947
Since the Voyager was a smaller class ship you can hear the faint white noise of the engines much more. That is the secret to all Trek and its comfiness. VOY just upped the volume on the white noise while actually making it make sense.

And even though it was a shit Trek, it still had some great characters. Tuvok being the best.
>>
>>81853947
I didn't really like Neelix but loved his effects on Tuvok. When Neelix leaves the ship Tuvok's farewell was surprisingly touching. The guy cared about trek more than the people making it.

Tuvok knows how to tug on the heart strings, I got choked up a few times watching Voyager and they were all Tuvok scenes. The one where they find out how to fix his brain damage, but he tells Neelix he doesn't want to go back to how he was because he wants to stay and have fun with Neelix as his friend. The one in Year of Hell where Janeway decides to take Voyager on a suicide mission, and that one where he says goodbye to Neelix.

>Ship - standard federation ship in the TMP-era, sometime before Yesterday's Enterprise
>Characters - no idea, your standard crew but the doctor is a secret S31 agent
>Plot - here we go

So the ship encounters a race of aliens that use "hard" science fiction style technology. It's "primitive" but very effective.
>Casaba howitzer nuclear shaped charges that shred shields
>nuclear pulse propulsion based on antimatter-catalyzed fusion
>ablative armor
>effective point defenses
>actual electronic warfare
>bomb-pumped x-ray lasers

The federation crew is dumbfounded how a non-warp civilization can wreck their powerful and advanced ship, which is damaged following their drop out of warp in their system.

>meet with aliens
>aliens are free-market fanatics
>split into clans/mega-corporations
>obsessed with eugenics
>matriarchal
>embrace genetic modification

So the crew meets them and they find the aliens VERY sexually aggressive/forward. They reproduce by getting pregnant, then storing the embryo for later analysis. The more genetic diversity in a clan/corporation, the better so they like to fuck a lot.
>sex is competitive
>if partners are from different clans/corporations, the one who experienced the most climaxes loses, the one who provided the most pleasure gets to keep the embryo
>one alien mentions to a female Starfleet character that his family line has prehensile penises- and shows her

The Starfleet crew is horrified by all of this. The aliens are friendly enough but they're completely fucked in terms of Federation morals and values. Even when it comes to engineering, they laugh at Starfleet for using force fields to do simple shit like damage control. They consider replicators a massive waste, same with artificial gravity when you can just genetically modify the crew to resist zero-g and acceleration stresses.

>aliens have slower than light empire of 3 systems
>aliens are near Romulan border
>>

cont'd

>Feds eventually detect a graveyard of Romulan ships from about 150 years ago
>ships are wrecked, clearly picked over for technology
>ask aliens about it
>aliens reply that they thought the Romulans were clearly some race that got ahold of advanced tech but weren't ready for it- seeing as they use artificial gravity, don't wear vacuum suits during combat, etc.
>They think warp drive is an artifact from a hyper-advanced race and is too dangerous to use
>Were unable to decrypt much of the Romulan information, but did discover a planet's location
>decided to fuck them up
>sent a relativistic kill vehicle towards a Romulan colony system ~130 years go
>due to impact in the next week or so
>Romulans will never detect it coming, will 100% guaranteed destroy their planet
>Feds explain how much sh it this will cause, explain politics and technology of the galaxy to our aliens
>aliens understand, agree to help the Feds stop the RKV
>Feds fix ship, go to stop it
>Realize alien electronic warfare systems on the RKV's makes stopping them very hard
>Alien liaison on-board won't hand over EW shutdown codes to the Feds without some assurance- a main character joining his clan via mating
>Feds relent but no time for mating
>Alien liaison is very good at his job, shit happens they didn't expect, he still saves the day through sheer competence and engineering talent that puts Starfleet's engineers to shame

The episode ends with the Feds agreeing to donate gametes (eggs and sperm, no fertilized embryos) to the aliens to join their clans as honorary members/friends.

Everyone parts ways with disaster averted but the closing Captain's narration notes that he's terrified of what the aliens will be like on the wider Galactic stage. He notes that the Federation Council should make exceptions to allow these aliens membership- if only because he fears being their enemy and they wouldn't otherwise be allowed into the Federation-- as they despise unified governments.

Are there any other actors that looked better without hair?
>>
>>81855686
Oh boy, you dun asked for it now

I've got a story I'm working on VERY intermitantly.
Takes place very, VERY post TNG. It's basically about the crew of the USS LaForge, an Igor class tender, as they follow behind some of the more prominent ships, including the Enterprise (In this case, the H) cleaning up messes and making repairs.

The idea is the Federation is the single longest lasting and broadest spanning intergalactic alliance, outlasting the Klingon empire, the Romulans, the Dominion, and even eradicating the Borg. There's not much left to do, and it's a very poorly kept secret that the Federation has kinda disappeared up its own ass, and become too much of a fan of itself.

I tried designing an Enterprise with that idea in mind. Something that's still cool, but also intentionally gaudy.

Good stuff. Great story and character development, but ultimately felt like an extended episode and was just way too slow in some parts, even with the director's cut fixing some pacing issues already.

>II
I knew it was supposed to be good, and I had seen clips but damn, I never knew how great this truly was. It's better than TMP at being a movie, because it ramps up the stakes and the action without overtaking the characters.

>III
A little boring, but still quite enjoyable. I like the new Klingon look and language, and the plot felt like a natural extension of II. The ending was pretty awkward though.

>IV
Oh this one was great. I love when there's no villain and it's just about solving a problem. The humor was fantastic. I miss when Trek was this fun. My only problem is the plot.

Now I'm up to V. Pic related. I am 20 minutes in and already this is one of the dumbest movies I've ever seen in my life. I've heard people say it's still true to Kirk, Spock and McCoy but even that feels very off.

And it started so promising, so humble. Just Kirk climbing a mountain while he's on shore leave? I love it. And the intro in the neutral zone was kind of compelling. But after those first 8 minutes, it just takes a nosedive. Did Shatner himself write this script? I don't think I can finish this.
>>
>>81860023
Yeah Final Frontier was pretty shitty. The Kirk/Spock/McCoy bantering and some of Scotty's shenanigans were the only thing redeemable about it. Undiscovered Country I think is the best Trek film though, so atleast you have that.

TMP is the ultimate pleb filter. It's all downhill from there. Only Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country is worth it.

No. I just love the idea of an "anti-Federation" that isn't outright evil. Also a foil to the over-engineering of Starfleet design.

That and they've met sexually weird aliens before, but there's never been a compelling reason for them being forward other than strange gender system or ulterior motives or just being slutty.

Other Trek idea:
>USS Diversity
>Klingon Medical Officer who believes euthanasia is the correct choice for all serious problems
>Copious bloodwine consumption solves all other problems
>Empathic ship's counselor who CONSTANTLY senses that enemies on-screen want to bang him
>Apathetic captain, given position as punishment
>Starfleet's most practical engineering department, literally stares at the captain when he suggests using a force field instead of closing a door.
>Consoles on the bridge NEVER explode- engineers explain they just used low voltage electricity and fiber optics- go on to ask why ANYONE would run high energy plasma through a simple console
>Engineers are aloof, inaccessible, condescending- think the most insufferable IT team ever
>Ship's counselor is often traded to enemies of the week in exchange for the ship's survival
>Captain always has a dirty trick/plan to dupe the enemies
>Sensor lock on counselor
>beam out the MOMENT before penetration
>Ship's counselor is a goddamn wreck, can't counsel anyone because of his crippling PTSD
>Think Harry Kim but worse with women, because he's scared shitless of intimacy or sexual contact
>Counselor will regularly and publicly melt down when nubile alien women are involved in the plot
>Ferengi academy grad as helmsman
>Jewish human at ops
>They are unnaturally good bros, better than Bashir and O'Brien
>Routinely swindle and trick aliens for shit the ship needs
>Constantly running scams among the crew
>Tactical officer is of vaguely Germanic extraction (he's secretly Swiss, strangely gets on with Ferengi and Jew), very intense, borderline genocidal
>>
>>81860365
>he thinks there's just one ENTrician

>>81860634

>>
Are the IDW comics good?
>>
>>81860634
>crew are routinely sent on dangerous but relatively low-stakes missions

So episodes could include:
>the crew meets the Borg and the tactical officer literally just beams canisters of caustic gas to melt flesh off of them
>rest of crew agrees they should salvage borg technology
>decide to sell it to Ferengi instead of turning it into Starfleet because money buys nice things

or

>Crew negotiates with would-be federation member for dilithium rights
>alien leader has the hots for the counselor
>let him get almost raped, record whole thing on sensors
>beam him out
>alien leader is pissed
>blackmail him with near-rape
>save the day and get the dilithium

or

>re-hash of the Inner Light
>Captain realizes his reality isn't true
>figures he's in a coma
>spends the rest of his simulated life drinking and womanizing, drifting from town to town as he gets kicked out of them
>receives flute
>puts it on his desk and calls it the "Skin Flute" based on how he lived his virtual life

That kind of thing. Just how a crew of rejects and misfits would handle the Trek universe.

Can we legitimately get like 3-4 scripts from these comedy adventures put together?

Playing with such sacred tropes would make for 11/10 comedy. Like even normies would be dying from these inappropriate hijinks thanks to Trek ubiquity if banter met lofty heights of premise.

>will intentionally introduce errors into the transporter beam to wound aliens being beamed aboard, treat them with EMH, and use their medical care as leverage in negotiations
>replicate nicer furniture than standard because why not?
>have an emergency "panic button" tied to command authorization codes for command crew
>"panic button" beams all non-crew into the brig, releases sedative and depressant gas throughout the ship in case the crew's going mad or being influenced or some other nonsense

That's the joke! If it must be toned down, have the Swiss (but comes off as very 3rd Reich-German) tactical officer be bros with the Ferengi.

Make the ops officer a... fat Tellerite. Yeah! Make him fat, hilariously into whatever's trendy with the replicator, and a constant danger to the crew's health as he discovers and passionately shares obscene replicator patterns. Think like an episode where he's on a chili-cheese fries kick and is walking around with just a dish of them in nigh every scene. Each scene, the fries get more insane with something else absurd added to them.

>start as just fries
"This Earth snack is delicious!"
>cheese fries
>then poutine
>then chili cheese fries
>then truffled poutine
>then duck fat confit fries poutine
>then waygu beef chili cheese fries with shaved truffle
You get the idea. His idea of food just keeps getting more and more over-the-top because there are no limits with a replicator so he gives no fucks. The crew's health suffers thanks to his obsession with snacking and passion for sharing it.

Make the first officer female. Make her kind of like Dee from Always Sunny - attempting to be the "straight man" but failing miserably because she too gives into her baser instincts. Also like Dee in that the crew doesn't respect her.

Tac officer: "Yeah, whatever bro. Just saying that human history has examples of people who've done it better."
Jew: "Exactly! What's wrong with you people? Can't you stick to a blockade to starve them out? You gave them replicators, had them working mines for wages! If you want to oppress a people, you have to strangle their economy, their reasons to live, their ability to fight in any way."

Cardassian: "Are you two really giving me tips on how we could have more effectively handled the occupation of Bajor?"

Both crew: "Yup."

Tac Officer: "Not our fault that humans do it better."
Jew: "I'd like it known that I'd normally NEVER do this but...

>It's easy my Cardie friend, you have control of their media. First, include Klingons in all Bajorian media, even where completely historically inaccurate and impossible. Then, promote racemixing with Klingons in all Bajorian media, tv, movies, music, advertising. If anyone reacts negatively call them racist, and say they are simply hatemongers who which to perpetuate a negative stereotype of Klingons. In movies and tv try and have the Bajoran female lead have a male Klingon love interest. In advertising always show a Bajoran woman with a Klingon husband holding her supportively. It doesn't matter if in reality Bajoran/Klingon couples make up less than one percent of all couples on Bajor, what matters is what you show in media. Just keep pushing it and eventually reality will imitate what you have shown them, because what they see on the screen is what they believe. Then push Klingon immigration to Bajor. It can be a mix of saying Bajorans are not having enough children to support their economy and Klingons are needed to provide the growth necessary for that, and that they will do the jobs that Bajorans don't want to do. You can also push for mass immigration from Klingon regions that are being affected by the war with the dominion. If anyone objects to any of this say that they are hateful racists who want to leave refugees to die in a war that Bajor is partially responsible for. If there is still resistance then feature predominately in news media stories about Klingon children suffering in war zones, maybe show a picture of a dead Klingon toddler face down on an Risa beach. Just keep hammering them with images of Klingon women and children suffering. When you have refugee influx stories always focus on women and children, don't ever show pictures of Klingon men. When there is violence between the new immigrants and the locals always say this was caused by intolerance of Klingon culture and by racism against Klingons inherent in Bajoran society.
>>
>>81864741

>Just stick to this plan my friend and eventually after a number of generations you will have a fractured, chaotic society, most of the traditions and culture of Bajor will be forgotten, the Bajoran youth will consider them antiquated, intolerant and racist anyway after decades of media showing it that way. In fact the Bajoran youth will be more anti-Bajoran than the most anti-Bajoran Cardassian. They will spit on the accomplishments of their ancestors and say they stole everything they ever accomplished from other cultures that they oppressed and victimized, after all that's what they were taught in school. By that point anyone reluctant to mate with Klingons will be reviled and racists and be forced out of their jobs. After their society has reached this point they will no longer be a threat to you in any way, and you will able to do whatever you like.

>You see my Cardie friend. I told you we know how to do it better than you.

10/10, brilliant.

Though it's heavy-handed, I'd love for the Jewish character to be likable while still being a borderline Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion type. Just always scheming and hyper subversive, just MOSTLY for the interests of the crew and the Federation but ultimately to himself.

I'm imagining a lot of scenes with the Tactical Officer glaring at the Jew with his finger over environmental controls buttons. The thing that keeps them from actual racial violence is their mutual friendship with the Ferengi and, ultimately, laziness.

I'm imagining grudging respect and group schemes to launder/hide Cardassian loot from the Occupation of Bajor, arguments about the Kosher status of Ferengi Gree worms, and an ongoing scheme to bootleg pleasure holodeck programs for the crew's usage.

I never said anything about black women though. But you did. Are you /pol/ false-flagging?

Okay.

A planet in the far, far distant future. Two disparate intelligent species, one human, one ... let's say lizardlike. They have a cold war going on. Their technology is somewhere between the 50s and the 70s, with biology coming ahead.

Both species are plagued with tons of genetic disorders, mutations, and so forth. It's why their biology is ahead of everything else. They're also both smart enough to have begun suspecting that they might not have originated on this planet.

Each side discovers an artifact, incredibly well shielded (FROM WHAT?!?), that points to ... something hiding in orbit.

The sides mount a joint expedition to whatever it is. They board what appears to be a bizarre ship, it's hideous, covered with redundancies and intertwined systems, often working off of wildly different technologies, with the whole thing inside of that same weird shielding ... perhaps an asteroid's worth.

And it activates, sending them on a trip to what appear to be random destinations. Each trip they have to locate something, usually a piece of technology, or some information, or biological samples.

The premise is that it's a post-Federation galaxy. Something TERRIBLE has happened to all of the species and their technology. The ship is a last-ditch effort by some in the Federation to preserve their technology/culture, held for a future date for just the right people to find it.

As they go from planet to planet, they gain more understanding and finally control of the ship. Familiar species are encountered, but they too have been changed by millennia and who knows what else.

And we're not the only ones trying to make a comeback.

Pegasus is the most important episode in all of Star Trek. It illustrates how the Federation is willing to cripple its defensive technology for political stability, weakening it to larger galactic threats like the Borg, who, despite being warned about in advance by Q, hurt the Federation enough to force them into a bad treaty with Cardassia, leading to the events of DS9 and VOY. It also makes absolutely clear the need for Section 31, who almost certainly acquired the phasing cloak technology and used it in the best interest of the Federation against the Romulans.
>>
Discovery should have been the name of Enterprise.
>avoid all the mess about how many Enterprises there have been
>appropriate name for the first ship to do any major exploring
>>
>>81866850
>willing to cripple its defensive technology for political stability

Of course. Because the Federation has to constantly walk the talk with its utopian ideology in the face of galactic evils and generally oppressive intelligent life.

The Federation has to actually show that they're willing to put peaceful cooperation above all else because if they just said it or half-committed no one would believe them.

The Klingons mistook this attitude for one of a people that lacked any warrior spirit or honor-culture, believing that peace first was a weakness. They eventaully discovered not only the deep reserves of honor found in humans but a latent (arguably purposefully suppressed/repurposed) ferocity in combat and a natural gift for warfare.

The Federation is the galactic Turn The Other Cheek club. But if you slap both sides they will come fuck your shit all the way in nonstop.

Fed literally mined a wormhole. Laying just simple landmines anywhere on earth is already a war crime today.

These are the types of posts I miss on Trek. And not just because I'm sympathetic to the S31 or the darker elements introduced in the series around that time. I also thought that the Romulans knowledge of such cloak inevitably would lead them to spend increasing amounts of resources in trying to complete one for themselves, even though the Feds have supposedly dropped the project in favor of peace.

If you can get people to believe that defending themselves by such an intractable threat as the Romulans is a bad idea, you can get them to believe a lot of other destructive ideas.

Imagine for a moment how goddamn paranoid the Romulans would get after Picard showcased the phase cloak.
At first they laugh, because the naive and inferior Federation captain has just given up a significant tactical advantage in the name of peace.
Then they stop and think. The Federation, known for their technological prowess, has just given up a significant technology. One they know the Romulans will want to recreate. Moreso, they've just admitted to breaching the peace treaty. Wars have been started for less.
Is that what they want? Do they want the Romulan Empire to publicly fire the first shot? If they've given up a phase cloak, what else do they have in stock? They are known for their advanced technologies, after all. Are they so confident in their victory? Is the phase cloak a trap?
Imagine the Tal Shiar banning research into the tech, with whole departments pouring precious time and resources into looking for hidden motives, while Picard sits back in his ready room chair, sips a hot cup of Earl Gray, and allows himself a small measure of pride in having made the Federation a slightly better place.

If Trek were real the Federation would have been crushed by the Romulans so easily. The Feds are total cucks and would have been easily destroyed by the brutality of the Klingons. Roddenberry's Jewish humanist view of the future is extremely naive and extremely stupid when you break it down to its elements. This is why DS9 is the superior show. That entire episode is like having acupuncture but the doctor actually stabs you and slowly continues the process.

Early DS9 episodes seemed to follow along this theme for me so many times but it was the most unrealistic shit to think that none of the men in the colony would've immediately taken charge of the situation because it's in their fucking DNA to do so.

I know it's trek progressive nonsense but seriously it was an unrealistic episode of the worst kind (when people act like stick figures to serve the plot).

The thing is, the Romulans were already working on a phasing cloak, too! It's what led to the accident involving Geordi and Ro in "The Next Phase." And since the Enterprise only knew about the Pegasus because of an operative on Romulus, we can assume there was a lot of back and forth espionage about the technology between the Federation and the Romulans over the years. So it was probably not a huge surprise when the Enterprise decloaked outside the asteroid, except for the fact that the Romulans might have went, "holy shit they actually got it to work."

Section 31 eventually has the leader of the Tal Shiar working for them, ensuring their alliance against the Dominion, so the fact that the Federation got to the phasing cloak technology first was huge.
>>
>>81867772
Did any of them leave at the end? I could be mistaken, but I believe everyone stayed behind. That really pisses me off.
>>
>>81868127
I really would like a Starfleet Intelligence miniseries or something. Not so much for Section31 cuz theyr'e a little too pastiche for my taste but for back-and-forth like this.

Because you would have to have constant intelligence wars and the gathering of scientific and technical data and wooing of neutral scientists. And for the Federation at the end of it they'd have to ask the same question, "We're going to uphold the treaty and not use this right? We went through all this work to keep technological parity *just in case* right?"

And every time you'd risk the Federation finally eating its own ideals and doing what everyone else said was just a matter of time: becoming the aggressor.

I figure its gotta be changeling related. Like the entire structure of Romulan society from the Senate to the Tal Shiar down to the fucking bus drivers in the capitol is so susceptible to that kind of fuckery.

Everyone would be pointing fingers at everyone else and firewalling off entire departments and fleet commands from each other because changelings are coming out of the fucking walls.

Romulan society would be pushed to near-collapse on some hyper-Red Panic style shit.

In that environment if you're the actual head of Tal Shiar you gotta GTFO before your nanny's husband's son who works over in Senate Sanitation says the wrong thing to a FleetOps informant and suddenly theres a fucking bomb in your plo'meek soup.

With phasing cloak technology on a personal as well as shipwide level, the Federation could have covert operations that would rival even the changelings.

Fuck, that episode was true Ghost-kino in space

Infuriating child genius characters were the norm in the late 80s and early 90s.

Why would a nuke even register an impact on their shields? Photon and quantum warheads are both orders of magnitudes more effective, that's why they use them. Also, as there's no atmosphere in space a nuclear detonation won't create a blast wave, just a massive mess of radiation that you couldn't shape. You might make the crew a bit sick while they scramble for radiation meds but I don't think it would do anything at all to the ship.

Shatner did pretty well for himself on Boston Legal. He got an Emmy out of it. Plus the Priceline money. Mulgrew has done okay. Supporting role on Orange is the New Black, some Broadway work, a few awards. Scott Bakula gets regular work in television. Honestly the only one who hasn't really done much is Avery Brooks but he's still a professor at Rutgers. None of these people are hurting for work.

Ironically it's also around the same time that parents started treating their kids that way.

They never addressed what the side effects of long term use might be but I'm willing to bet that there would be some.

I watched ds9 last. Worst trek of them all. Couldn't stand about 80% of the episodes. Took me 8 months to finish it

I think Section 31 would have had cloaks a lot earlier than that, they'd really struggle to do anything useful if they had to rely on getting lifts on other Starfleet vessels or could be spotted on sensors. Plus I'd really hope that the Federation captured at least one Klingon or Romulan vessel once. Even if the rest of Starfleet are goody-goodies that would try and destroy the cloak I'm sure they could arrange to beam it out of the furnace or whatever.

And they can obviously be bought or stolen, as Quark did both.

I'm pretty sure Wesley is the most hated character.

Gravity plating affected the nutrino-flux matrix giving them something to stand on while trans-phasic.

>Ro: "We're ghosts!"
>Geordi: "We're not ghosts."
>Ro: "How do you know?"
>(Geordi jumps up and down repeatedly)
>Geordi: "If we're ghosts, how can we still be affected by the artificial gravity field generated by the deck plating?"
It's fixed in the episode's novelization.

How do they breathe? If they walk through regular matter they should walk through regular oxygen and not be able to breathe it unless the romulans decided to teleport a lot of transphasic oxygen onto the ship.
