Most of my favourite films are from the 80s but I'd definitely call the 70s more influential.

There were also lots of "firsts" in the 70s. The dawn of slashers, of blockbusters. Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe it was also the first film ever made that was based on an existing toy-line, which was a Raggedy Ann film. There was also the first porn film with a cinematic plot, which was Deep Throat.

Cinema became an entirely new beast in the 70s.

Gritty classics, lots of serious movies about darker themes. Crime dramas and existential dread. Star Wars.

80s
The fun decade. Adventure, scifi and horror. Great mix of family friendly and more serious themes give birth to the teenager movies.
Directors: Spielberg, Hughes, Carpenter

90s
Incoming new British wave. More movies about every day "boring" characters. Heavy importance on over-the-top dialogue. Visible influence of the booming music video era on the editing and pacing of the movies. Importance of soundtracks.
Directors: Boyle, Tarantino, Cohen bros

00s
Big budget event movies. The birth of the "universe" concept of planning movies years in advance. Modern superhero movies are just now becoming a thing. Lots of action and subpar comedies. Star Wars is a thing again.
Directors: Jackson, Cameron, Nolan

10s
Kinda shit so far. Every movie is tryhard Oscar bait. Heavy emphasis on political and social subjects. Anything else is about superheroes and nerd culture.
Directors: Russel, McQueen, whatever C tier director Marvel hires
