The dinner scene where the Palmers try to speak Norwegian, the scene where Donna's parents show up, the bit at Bobby's locker, and the extended version of Laura visiting Bobby probably should've been in the movie. The extended Deer Meadow stuff, Laura and the trucker, and some of the other bits are not really necessary, but I feel like they add to the movie a bit. You are spoiled on nu-media be it TV or movies, with fast cuts, action that resolves within the same episode, oversexation (I made up a word) and modern situations. It's a very slow show even for its time as said by cast and production interviews. Just force yourself through at least the first season. Approach it like it's a dream, because it might as well be. My main concern right now has nothing to do with the writing, but I'm getting the idea that season 3 is going to look like shit.

We all know the philosophy Lynch took on with Inland Empire and while this is obviously not that, he's using digital (HD) cameras for convenience, the guy shot and directed 18 episodes over a fairly short period of time, I don't imagine any shoot was particularly rigorous. Doesn't seem like refinement has any time and place in this production.

I mean what do you imagine a process like this looking like in the end? Has anybody ever heard of a single individual directing 18 consecutive episodes of a drama? How?

This is going to be 18 loosely connected vignettes, is my feeling, and it'll look off-putting, all your other favorite show, even the original run of Twin Peaks will look better.
